Hello! Hope everyone's doing well. Thanks once again for the all the great questions submitted for last week's Q&A video. Plenty of you seem to enjoy it - and I did as well - so I'll try and do another later in the year on a different theme. I'm also planning on making some full length videos inspired by some of the questions asked.

This week, for my annual Summer Special, I've chosen to look at a fingerstyle classic from one of my favourite acoustic players, John Fahey. It's a beautiful, complex track, but not actually that hard to play if you know a few fingerpicking basics, and are prepared to put a bit of time into learning it.

It's all tabbed out below. I've tried to do a reasonably faithful transcription of the 1965 recording. I've included a few nuances I didn't have a chance to mention in the video, but overall I've tried to keep it clear and readable. Hope you enjoy learning it.

As I mentioned at the end of the Q&A I'm now going to be away on my summer hols for a couple of weeks, and want to take a bit of a break from YouTube to recharge my batteries. (I will be taking a guitar with me though, and hope to do a bit of gentle practice and writing!)

Thanks as always to everyone on here for the amazing support. Speak soon!

Lovely! Not at all familiar with John Fahey. Surprising tones! Will have to look for this record in the bins! Have a lovely holiday! I am taking a break as well and plan to work on my finger picking. Shades of Cairo in one dissonant phrase!

John Fahey was my gateway into folk music and modal tones around 1970. After that was Leo Kotke, whose sound was generally more bombastic, but nonetheless super crafty too.

Thank you for this nice piece of summer music, have a lovely holiday.

Beautiful piece of music, beautifully presented - thanks Adrian…

I have tuned my Martin and been giving it a go. If I can get halfway to your ‘ragged’ version, I’ll be thrilled. Long way to go, but after a day, it’s recognizable. Used to have a set of metal thumb and finger picks, but they kept getting swallowed by my guitar.

A knitting needle with a bit of blu tac on the end seems to work quite well for me when rescuing things from the inside of my guitar.

Hi Adrian, I couldn't find any other way to contact you on Patreon. I hope you'll see this message. It's to suggest a song for a future finger picking video: "Me and my uncle" by the late Mike Wilhelm. I think it's a fantastic song to play and hope you'll enjoy it. Best wishes and Season's greetings !Pascal
