Hi everyone! This week I'm discussing acoustic rhythm playing, and the 7 grooves/strumming feels that I think are the most useful and important to work on. As I say at the start of the video, on one level this is something of a beginner lesson, but I think that even the more advanced players amongst you shouldn't take this stuff for granted, and will still get something out of working on some of these patterns.

Everything is tabbed out below. The backing tracks will be in the next post.

Hope you enjoy it. I'm away next week (it's half term school holidays here in the UK, and also my birthday so I'm taking a few days off the content creation hamster wheel) so the next video should be on the 23rd.

See you then. Thanks as ever to everyone here for the support and generally being so excellent.

Get good at acoustic rhythm guitar: 7 grooves that really matter

Forget the flashy stuff, these 7 rhythm guitar grooves are the ones you'll actually be using much of the time. So it pays to get really good at them. Thank you Adrian. Enjoy your holiday.

You are so right about the desire to impress other guitar players! It's the song that counts.

Happy Birthday , this takes me back to your beginner lessons which is a good thing :)

This hits where I live and 100% agree with your philosophy (no surprise there). Sounding good and in the pocket way more important than playing with hair on fire. Doing the simple with excellence rocks. That's why Neil Young records will remain timeless and newer stuff like Beck's "Sea Change" and Grammy Award winning Album of the Year "Morning Phase" in 2014 are new classics. Adrian your no nonsense exploration of the essential in detail is invaluable. Cheers again. Also saw, "happy birthday," is it your birthday?

Michael Ahearn

BTW very little of this is "beginner" I know a ton of "advanced" players who don't do what's in this lesson really well.

Allan Mumby

Happy Birthday Adrian. Liked this lesson and did get more than I thought out of it. Thanks as always.

Killian King

Preach brother! Happy Birthday!

Peter Healy

Hi Adrian, this fits in perfectly with the stuff I am working on at present. Have a relaxing break and a very Happy Birthday. Cheers Pete

Thanks Adrian - I certainly need to work on strengthening my strumming and rhythm patterns so thanks for this lesson. Enjoy your mini break and have a lovely birthday!!

Love all these musicianship videos. Your video on 6ths and country thirds opened my mind and expanded my playing! Last week was a great fundamentals video and this week has great fundamental stuff too, patterns guitarist will be playing til the grave. Hope to see some more insight into how you approach theory later in the year, you never disappoint! Nice (new?) Martin as well.

This was timely! Just this week I was thinking of how far I have come, and in some cases not come, since I started guitar a few years ago. And I was feeling a but despairing about my still rocky strumming. Will try some dedicated practice with these. And I didn't see where your birthday was announced, but if so, I hope you have/had a very happy birthday!

Mick England

Thanks Adrian. Good to switch to acoustic for a bit. Happy birthday and hope you have a good break!

Andrew

Great lesson! Thank you, Adrian.

Cool chord progression's. Lovely grooves .Thanks Adrian.

16th note riddim sounds like Ride. Interestingly many of the post punk riddims are reggae and surf!

Conrad Leifur

I'm a beginner, and this lesson has had the biggest positive impact on my playing ability. Thank you!

Chris

Can't find the backing tracks for the 7 acoustic grooves. Thanks.

Ed

Hi Adrian, what applicatino can I play the backing tracks in? the gp file format seems to be only for Guitar Pro which I don't have

anyonecanplayguitar

Hi Ed. The Guitar Pro file is just for the tab - it's the same as the PDF so owning Guitar Pro is not essential. The actual backing track is in the next post in mp3 format which will play on any audio player app.

Ed

Found it, cheers 🙏
