In my opinion one of the best written and acted episodes of the show! Definitely in my personal top 10 for the show, especially as it gets better and better each time I see it. A great idea for an episode for sure, but so so well executed, which is no easy feat. The writing and the dialogue is just everything in this episode - often really funny and sweet, exciting and dark, nuanced and real - just perfect. As is the directing, production design and performances. Elizabeth Henstridge is just so so good in this, I am always so impressed at how she just completely carries this episode, especially for a good chunk of it, on her own. And Will (and the actor who plays him) is great - which makes it all the more complicated! And yeah Fitz. What a guy indeed. Love his instant reaction is just to start helping - that really tells us so much about him. From here on I find, with this major thing being fully explained, the season really starts to get going. Loved your reaction, can’t wait for the next!

Echoing everything Lyla said! One of the things I really liked was the message-in-a-bottle hail mary, not just as a heartbreaking plot point but because Jemma and Will's efforts weren't in vain. The shot being as timely and forceful as it was caused that little bit of sand to come through that we saw in the second episode, which led to the team's breakthrough about the monolith. Also, it was a nice effort that they addressed how Simmons's phone lasted so long, but in all of AOS that's probably the hardest my credulity has been strained 😂

Oh my god I had no idea that the sand that Fitz found was because of the bottle they threw but of course! What an amazing detail! This show!

This episode was definitely an experimental one, and one that the showrunners didn't think they'd get to make as it concentrated the whole episode to one character. Elizabeth has said in interviews that the showrunners had come to her with this cool premise for an episode but weren't sure that the network would let them shoot it. They did and the result was a stunning episode which is still one of my favourites of the series. They filmed the episode in Simi Valley during a heat wave and several of the crew got heat stroke. Lil is quite rightly praised for this performance, winning TV Line's "Performer of the Week" award, but she has said several times that she could not have done it without the whole team including writer Craig Titley and director Jesse Boscho. And now we know why Jemma broke down when she was poured the glass of wine!

Technically it's not a planet. It's an Earth-size moon of a huge gas giant planet, like Jupiter but probably bigger. She must be near one of the poles, hence the very long night. The seasons would be a function of the orbital period of the gas giant which I'm guessing is around 18 years. The fact that the temperature at the pole is quite mild means the lower latitudes are probably scorching deserts.

How as the concert?

This is one of my favorite episodes of the whole series. It’s reminds of those special episodes of Buffy, like Hush and Once More with Feeling. It’s kind of risky and everyone has to be on their A-game to accomplish it and I think they nailed it.
