I have, like, a lot of Politically Incorrect episodes on a hard drive, and I was thinking "Hey, maybe there's something to learn about the way this guy has 'grown' as a host and performer over the years." So, here are three Politically Incorrect episodes from the years 1994, 1997, and 1998, with clips pulled that highlight the way he's changed as a host.

Aaron

How did he record like 3000 episodes of this crap before 2001!?! I wasn’t even aware of him until like 2008 when I was like 24-25!

JayDubYuhh

This is such a mess and I love it lmfao

These dickheads unironically having shallow and moronic conversations about how the culture is supposedly shallow and moronic. I WISH they would take some freakin' film theory or media classes. Also, in 1994 there is a century of film to study. BM being a 38 yo grandpa even though he's got no children.

I could imagine Bill Maher on the Titanic basically doing the Billy Zane character trick of pretending he had a child to get in a lifeboat. British and American women didn't have the vote in 1912 and were still largely considered the property of their fathers or husbands, but, you know, getting to freeze in a lifeboat instead of freezing in the Atlantic definitely evened things out.

Evelyn

he has a better women to men panelist ratio in 1998 than he does in any point of real time

When I want thoughtful analysis of low brow pop culture and film studies, I go to the star of Pizza Man

A dunt

How did this man look so bad on tv for SO MANY years?

A dunt

Jesus Christ - how many books has this idiot written??

Jacob Boyle

I was at the AFL-CIO workers’ congress this weekend and as someone who—like Will—didn’t get that joke initially, it felt very full-circle for me

Is the audio slightly out of sync for anyone or is it just my stupid app on my phone?

Yes, this for sure has been going on for ages. They thought writing on slates was bad for the mind. Reading was bad for the mind. You can find _someone_ shitting on anything new as being the doom of culture and intellectualism. So it's not just an Anglophere problem, but those examples are still The West. I'd love to see if this happened in Asia too. I wouldn't be surprised at all to find text with Buddha dunking on guys like that though. It really does feel like there's always been people who gravitate towards that as humans. And because I get it - yes, you did bleep his name successfully, even though I'm also sure you checked it 17 times. I got u

I can just, just, remember living through this era, when this edgyness was fun. I dont think I really liked it, but I remember trying to, because what else was there...? Comicbooks also went edgy, dark was cool - we call that edgelording now. I think we were so tired of everyone pretending everything was fine, and we couldn't articulate it _at all_. We didn't have the tools or perspective to analyze what was wrong - we barely do now, but the conversation has started at least. Also these guys laughing at metaphors after decrying a lack of intellectualism is hilarious. Now, if it was "dumb guys" who know they're dumb laughing at it, it would be _less_ stupid - and _that_ would be a perfectly fine show. It's got a perspective:Maybe that kind of writing is silly-high brow. But these guys want thier cake and eat it too. To be seen as smart _and_ not engage with anything in good faith, which you'd normally try to if you wanted to present as a show for "intellectuals". The jokes would have to be smart too.

Phasian's Workshop

Given Bill Maher's agastness regarding stupidity in culture its _crazy_ he didn't bring up Dare to be Stupid - 1985. He coulda been like, \Maher voice\ "Well ya dared us, are u happy now?" --Just no interest in his guests at all. I'm appalled he missed the easiest, most on-brand joke of all time. Weird Al messing with these guys about the grammar is hilarious. He seems like he just knows nobody's gonna pick up on it XD "This conversation is dumb, it's like complaining about lyrics grammar". "Dare to be stupid" guy is smarter than this room - Of course. Maher has proven he can't believe anyone can pretend to be dumb on purpose for a laugh - he just genuinely thinks people are stupid, or that, like Bevis and Butthead, stupidity can itself be commentary. Or that like Weird Al, clownery can be subversive or a form of protest - or at least a perspective break from our daily lives, which we otherwise take seriously. I think Bill might be less capable of critical thought than Joe Rogan. Man. Has he ever been on that show? They'd have the stupidest ever conversation and they'd both leave feeling smarter. Did I just forget because they're so air-brained they talked past each other and there was nothing of substance to remember other than that they're _actually_ really dumb? XD

hey_boo

Will, what are you going to do when baby’s first words are “NEW RULE!”

t

Listen Will, I fucking love you. I do. I do not give a fuck about Chris, Terrence, or Conrad. I'm glad I learned tho

Rebecca Richards

Awww seeing 1996 era Weird Al brings back so much nostalgia Bill Maher can't ruin it. Except that Bill Maher pronouncing "Bologna" as "Bolognya" made me want to punch him more than any other time I've wanted to punch him

Christopher Teuma

That "we need drunks" joke was purely to fill his "you can't joke about anything anymore" men's club quota.
