Ok have to comment again he’s had Dr. Ruth on his show several times so wtf is he talking about?

Jeremy Hawkins

I think “why aren’t kids fucking” is a weird thing to worry about, but “why don’t they have friends” is interesting. But at the same time I have to think the answer is probably, they’re losing places to hang out after school, they don’t have money to afford to go to the places that are open to business, these motherfuckers are defunding sports so they can’t even hang out with people their own gender. And online dating seems to be miserable for everyone where men send five messages a day and get one response a week, and every woman is getting five messages from ten guys every day and one of them is legitimately insane. And as far as being nervous goes, my nerves have always been centered around the fact that I’m in a group with 8 guys and 2 women and I don’t want all eight guys to scare those two girls away by all asking them out. And like the example with “dating up” goes, this is a symptom of our patriarchal society and we need to fight to change it

Mat Palimpsest

As an asexual Evangelion fan I deeply appreciated that. Thank you.

Kimmerfest

Chicks stuck in washing machines 🤣

Chromakey

Knowledge Fight mentioned 😭 (Dan and Jordan decided it was time to finally end the podcast a week ago)

Eli

real shit

Eli

at least for me, its not just the defunding of third spaces but how hostile architecture is, how school is so focused on grades/standard achievements - making it harder to make friends in school and the way it does constrict your thoughts and skills, as well as long covid and other post-viral conditions being a significant issue for kids as well as the demand to get a job as soon as possible and like most areas of life, the growing acceptance of far right ideas. as you said, its complex and definitely not something bill maher should ever comment on.

Kelli Rule

I hope you don't mind but I have been recommending your show to the wonks (KF fans), I hope you can help fill the sad angry hack man analysis content void

Cclear: watch He Walked by Night (1948)

The trans sports discussion is hard to listen to. It feels like what they're talking about is such a distraction from more serious issues trans people are facing and it is very comfortable ground for anti trans bigots. I realize the sports conversation matters to those involved, but should it have the level of focus it's gained? Leading trans rights groups like HRC are Democrat party loyalists and will support them no matter how anti trans (or just not doing anything to support or talk about their issues at all) the Dems can be. It's not an accident that the major issue became something like sports inclusion which doesn't affect the wealth and power of the oligarchs and business owners. It would be a lot harder for people like these two if the issues of prominence were things like anti discrimination laws, housing and health care. People are still being fired for being LGBTQ in parts of the country, and the law is now murky because Trump reversed Biden's executive order on this. Employers can often get away with firing LGBTQ people. Even if the Supreme Court did this with the Bostock ruling, if states aren't adopting that into legislation, it's weak protection. There's also housing discrimination. Trans people need affordable housing like everyone else but the need is more acute in many cases. CalCare! CalCare can be passed in CA which could provide high quality gender-affirming care for free to any trans person (and every other health care need they and others have). Republicans started with bathrooms, failed and got backlash and then pivoted to sports. It's such a miniscule issue compared to the others. It affects such a tiny number of people. Imagine if the major issue disabilities groups advocated was developing the paralympics instead of getting the ADA passed (which was fiercely opposed by businesses). I think the conversation should be pivoted to these more serious issues and put these people on the backfoot.

The way that Bill just keeps repeating the same old tired talking points again and again reminds me from a quote in Paul Slansky's book about the Reagan presidency The Clothes Have No Emperor: "The President and Cap [Weinberger] sit around and talk about how workfare got surfers off the beach in California. They have no concept of what is going on." --Unnamed aide on President Reagan's failure to comprehend the seriousness of the recession

Jim Allenspach

At least he didn't say "How'd you like to get a checkup from that doctor?"

Andrew Duvall

When you say there are still places in the country where one can be fired for being LGBT, which places do you mean? My understanding is that Civil Rights Act outlaws employment discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, and that in the Bostock decision the Supreme Court ruled that it that it also covers gender identity, so it protects transgender people as well. I am not a lawyer, though, so my impression is only based off of reporting written for a popular audience.

Eric J. Graf

I mean, if I went around saying I was a neuroscientist just because some Bill Maher guest lobbed her book at me, they’d put me away!

mrg

i like that this podcast is also about us - the other people who hate bill maher, thank you Will.

Cclear: watch He Walked by Night (1948)

I know I criticized what I consider to be more conservative groups like the HRC, but they have good data. Enforcement authorities are accepting complaints on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity because the state has adopted the Bostock rationale into state law* 9 States Prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity 23 States & DC https://www.hrc.org/resources/state-maps Also read "Aftermath" on Bostock decision here. Trump reverse biden's executive order based on this Court ruling. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bostock_v._Clayton_County When I said "can legally fire LGBTQ people", I changed it to say "can often get away with firing LGBTQ people". It's a murky area now, and I suspect the Supreme Court will overturn it or whittle it down further. Ultimately if you are fired for being trans somewhere like Texas or Louisiana, what recourse do you have? How many people have the money to hire lawyers and go through the process instead of just looking for another job? I think de facto on the ground the supreme Court ruling effect is limited in states which have not adopted it as legislation. Even in those states, there are the barriers of not having money to hire a lawyer if you are a low wage worker. This is the reason I advocate for a federal anti-discrimination law that covers sex gender gender identity race ethnicity religion etc. We also need a strong voting Rights act again. Abortion was never federally codified and in many states it wasn't either, and we saw the weakness of relying on a Court ruling instead of an actual law. How many employers and even employees know their rights in this regard in these 18 states without a state law? "Even though federal law prohibits employers from hiring or firing people because of their gender, here in Arkansas and in 31 other states, there are no laws that explicitly tell employers that discrimination against transgender people is illegal. I'm here to make sure that transgender workers are judged on their job performance, not who they are." https://www.aclu.org/news/lgbtq-rights/fired-being-trans

I've been celibate for a decade. I enjoy sex but for various reasons haven't gotten around to having any in a long time. After hearing Bill Maher talk about sex, I think I'll go another decade.

Fr this show has been helping me cope with the loss

Solario

“It’s very liberating not to have to check what your opinion is supposed to be.” My dude. I’ve never encountered another individual whose entire purpose, entire drive, entire being, is based so firmly in grievance. This gnarled, miserable old fuck thinks he’s liberated?!

Kelli Rule

Will is so fucked if the KF fans migrate, he'll never be able to quit

Alex

Is there a consensus on here as to why Maher is so fixated on peal clutching over trans people? Did a trans person deeply offend him years ago or something? I’m new here, so I apologize if you all have already discussed this ad nauseum.

Alex

Also, it’s become such a hilarious reactionary centrist pundit trope to express concern about how much “sick” and “depraved” fetish porn is on Pornhub but say they’ve never gone on the site. I’ve now heard at least a half dozen pundits say that.

Eli

the way he acts is how i act toward mario kart because i have a grudge i can’t drift and refuse to learn. i don’t know how he exists purely in pathetic grievance that is completely unfounded

Frank Grimes

That made me very sad. But we’ll always have the intro song and we can still find bright spots, like this podcast! I also have a really excellent cat.

I always got excited when i heard the " red alert, red alert ,red alert". This show is definitely my favorite new find.

Kimmerfest

He needs to just embrace old age

MammaMia

Nobody yells about babies like you, Will. Never stop. They can't be trusted.

Solario

He’s just miserable. I can speak from experience from past darkness that when things aren’t going the way you think they should, you look for anything to be pissed about just so you can emote. When you’re down like this, engaging with things that might make you happy is actually incredibly difficult. Add to that, his baseline is simply a shallow, stupid, bitter, mean person, so he’s inherently fucked. I don’t think he’s suddenly gonna have an Ebenezer Scrooge moment before he croaks. I may be mixing metaphor, but least you have the possibility of getting a blue shell. All of this is anecdotal, and I’m just armchair psychologizing, but one of the reasons I’m so fascinated with this moron is I’ve had at times base impulses that match some of his. I never got to the point that he has with his grievances, but even the thought terrifies me that I could have ended up like him had I had less self-awareness or empathy. I haven’t heard this dude talk about anything he enjoys in a very long time. Happy people don’t speak entirely in repeated grievance, especially when none of them come anywhere close to effecting them.

Mistress Tentacles

The "transition so you're not gay" thing is common in some parts of Asia. Being homosexual is more stigmatized then being Trans, but no one is importing that here with the amount of transphobic propaganda the US has been marinating in, Bill himself is evidence of this
