I listened back when Josh Olson and Dave Anthony did their hate watch of The West Wing, and marveled at how they got through it. Now, I think it was something they hated within themselves that they had to punish and purge themselves of by watching TWW. I'm beginning to think this is the case with you too, Wil

Never saw TWW. I have a friend who absolutely swears by it, loves it. Can you explain why it’s so cringe?

Richie

It’s so bad?

Bubbles

Sorry, I thought I wasn't in your Mental Health tier.

Samuel Cain

You really should listen to the Dollop series, but liberal & conservative idealism generally like having a season long arc about "saving" Medicare only to gut it and everyone involved feeling so superior for capitulating

Richie

Aaaaaaah. Painful. Thank you Jonathan.

Nothing like a good hate watch

Also the episode where, in order to get a liberal Supreme Court nominee to replace a deceased conservative one through the Senate, they persuade a liberal justice to retire and nominate a conservative one to replace him, and are all so satisfied because they love the debate those two would have on the Court.

Early in Season 1, one of the characters, the Chief of Staff, says to other high up staffers, "We will raise the level of debate in this country and let that be our legacy" That's it. No policy initiatives. Just talking about policy. And lots of walking while talking.

SkipIntro did a really good video on the topic if you don't want to commit to a podcast. It values compromise and procedure over commitment to political ideals. There is a certain smugness to it as well. It turns politics into a game and removes the human implications from any policy positions.

Last year, Conan was honored by an array of top-tier comedians and celebrities. This year, Bill Maher is being celebrated by a man who admitted to sexual harassment, a former talk-show host that most people have forgotten about, a celebrity impressionist he barely knows, a comedian most normal people haven't heard of, and the worst sports commentator imaginable. This is what’s known as the law of diminishing returns.

Well we all know he’ll kiss himself.

We are in uncharted territory. If only we had a cryptographer.

What happened to Bill’s BFF Ann Coulter?

Have you heard "The audit" that Josh and Dave did later on? They do a season on PragerU, and have Gareth on for the Bill Maher heavy episode

Aaron

I like how in the beginning they thought the writing would be good, and quickly realized Sorkin was a hack

Okay, this is totally unrelated, but I just watched a clip of Penn on Club Random where Bill insists on being the dumbest person on the planet and tries to argue with Penn that a stage psychic is real. Nobody I know personally cares, so I just need to yell about it somewhere. I don't know if the rest of the episode is as great as that clip, and I refuse to find out by myself.
