Listen, right off the top, I gotta say that the audio edit is not up to snuff, in my opinion. I just didn't have time! There's so much going on! I had to leave in the kinds of um and uhs and interruptions and sputterings (all mine) that normally I would take out. But listen, thankfully I have a real pro at the "I Hate This One Specific Guy" podcast game: podcaster Dan Friesen. Now, when we were picking an episode to do, Dan was really excited to see Bill Maher get fucking wasted, but do you know what? He doesn't. He doesn't even really get high. AND I was looking forward to Patrick Bet-David being an absolute maniac, and we didn't really get any of that, either. In fact, I would say this episode of Club Random was a F-U-C-K-I-N-G D-I-S-A-S-T-E-R. ROCK BOTTOM chemistry, and yet I think Dan and I had quite a lot of fun with it, so FUCK YOU Bill Maher and Club Random; try to fuck up my podcast with your unbelievably bad Club Random episode. Eat shit. We made it work.

Also, we talk a lot about how insane PBD is, and sort of mention some of his more detestable beliefs, but straight up he's a really bad guy. I want to make sure that's on the record here.

on the eating disorder thing, in the nicest way i can say this, he is worse than a lot of teenagers in eating disorder recovery. EDs especially anorexia often make you a fuckinf nightmare to be around because you are entirely focussed on food and weight as a marker of character or worth and no matter how much you try, it’s something that seeps into every relationship you have. speaking from experience the way he describes how he thinks about food, the relationship to his body and weight is so similar to how i thought about when i was 12. i don’t know whether i’m describing this well because EDs are often are really difficult subject but i memorised the fuckinf DSM-5 for anorexia, and it’s all shit he does and even without that, he definitely has disordered eating.

This kind of feels like when your two different friend groups meet each other at like a function. Never thought I'd see this collab and I love it.

Doll House

how have i lived before this podcast??? and why is this so necessary for me now? i dont know but i did and it is. is this a whole genre or is this podcast actually unique??

Doll House

i love this and i fucking hate bill maher he is a total gross weirdo

Hentron

I love Dan but if you really want tortured squawking from a guest you gotta get Jordan.

Jeremy Hawkins

Bill starting the conversation with the river thing is like if an Ivy League educated biology graduate started a conversation with “the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell”

When I was in the Army I knew a guy that would drink at the local gay bar because guys would occasionally buy him a drink and he liked free beer.

Kelli Rule

Been waiting for this collab. Have Jordan next!

Apropos of the beginning of this conversation, the Ewoks speak Tibetan. I know some Tibetan people who immigrated to the U.S. in the 1990s and were shocked when they watched Return of the Jedi for the first time and heard the furry little aliens speaking their language.

Dan was a fantastic guest for your show & this was a great episode!! I hope to hear more collabs between you two in the future!!

There’s a podcast for people who hate Russell Brand. It’s called On Brand. There’s also a podcast for people who hate Joe Rogan. It’s called Know Rogan. I recommend both!

Neural Damage

After listening to this episode, my level of consciousness is now over 200

Doll House

thankyou!! i am simultaneously consuming On Brand and i love that too . The rogan one scares me a bit. I would LOVE a podcast like this by a woman and i think if i cant find one i might have to start one 👠👠👠

there is also Louder Than Crowder and, while it's not one show wholly devoted to just one person, the "Who the Hell is..." single-subject episodes by Posting Through It scratch that itch.

wait so you're saying you think structure is good for a podcast? that's so out of character for you that being said, great episode. it's a lot of fun when other sickos join the pod. I don't think pbd often encounters anyone who he just straight up does not know what to do with, and bill maher is just like, obliviously mr bean-ing his way out of having any actual conversation with a guy who could definitely have an engaging interview with a mop.

Become addicted to this pod in the past month or so, delighted anytime a new episode drops! Without wanting to make light of Bill's ED, his waffling answer to the simple question 'What's your favourite meal?' really reminded me of David Brent in the training day episode of the original UK 'The Office', when asked by the instructor about his ultimate fantasy. "It depends what you mean by ultimate fantasy because time travel's actually impossible. (Just interpret it any way you like.) Yeah. If you're talking about anything that could or could not be possible, actually. Anything that could be conceived of to happen or not, within my realm, you know then probably some sort of everlasting life. I don't just mean in a spiritual or religious sense, but actually to experience the future and live, you know, on and on and on, and know what it's like to live forever." Much like David Brent, Bill might be a much more pleasant person if he was less performative and not trying to cultivate some obviously bullshit image of this enlightened wiseman everyone should follow for advice.

Does this mean we're getting a bonus Bella Thorne episode featuring Dan?

Meat balls and spaghetti story was the saddest thing ever, he’s just hungry. That’s why he’s so angry

Mia Walden

This episode convinced me that Bill Maher also hates Bill Maher
