Her name is HEMLOCK and she’s ready to ROCK 🎸

Belladonna Baast (stage name Hemlock) has the kinda relationship with her father where she can (and will) call him a motherfucker to his face. She is a symphonic heavy metal performer renown for her operatic style vocals. Think Nightwish meets Evanescence meets the pleasant feminist britishness of Paris Paloma (song rec here)

Bella is a picture-perfect indifferent goth, speaking in a low monotone and very rarely smiling….or emoting at all. Her own fans find her intimidating (though she receives daily fawning fan letters with odd requests, what does “step on me mommy” mean…?), but Bella does indeed possess a secret softer, playful side. She is verrrrry mischievous and shares her father’s love of fucking with people. Her fan base is massively queer, and Hemlock herself is a lesbian~

I'M OBSESSED... EDGY SHEEP GOTH PRINCESS 🖤(*﹏*;) (Is her other bio parent a llama or an alpaca?)

lopoddity

Very possible! Balthazar doesn’t remember, coulda been a giraffe for all he knows. He and Battleaxe had a hell of a honeymoon

You make sheep ocs look so GOOD 😭 gives me motivation to draw my own sheep (which I’ve been dying to do ever since I found out some sheep breeds have long doggie tails! We just normally have to doc them for medical reasons.) But I need to know…. is she a Prima Donna Expi??

lopoddity

Honestly I love this kind of relationship, loving parent-child but now adult child have a playful friendship with parents. It remains me to mine, my parents even if are the typical latino parents are quite open minded and a little cooky 🤣 Like my mom has a very bad mouth and my dad is a sarcastic little shit, so my brother and I we have a stupid gross sense of humor. And the family together we can joke in ways that no other family can, we rost each other and make dirty puns (if you talk Spanish, specially latino you know). My parents are like the favorite old timers of the friendship group of my big brother, all metal head, tall af, big viking bears, full of tattoos, yet they are big sweethearts, I love them, and they behave like little kid with my mom, cuz she's very loving and treat everybody as babies, even if they are in their 30s and late 30s, and my dad is super chill, plis both are really good cooks soooo yep they show love and care stuffing you with food.

pinkyubus

Doglover502

Hey YEAH! :D Sav deserves it, a cool goth girlfriend that has enough money to get her out of her nurse job (but unfortunately still needs for health insurance)

Morghann Patterson

How does Belladonna get along with her step siblings?

Paladin

I love her (and Bal) so much; your characters are always so interesting! Also, thank you for the song rec!

Ventia

I love these two to a molecular level

Ehhhh. Their relationship is strained. Winnie and Nona feel like Bella is the golden child, that Balthazar clearly favored her, his biological daughter, over them, his step-daughters. Bella was the one that got music lessons and a nepo baby rockstar career, while Winnie and Nona both work regular jobs. Balthazar did not actually favor Bella or love her more than his stepkids, he simply seemingly fawned over her because he got to have Bella from birth, whereas Winnie and Nona did not become his family until they were already gradeschool age. He feels he missed a big chunk of their childhood, so when he had a bitty baby wee lamb of his own, he of course relished the chance to dote on her and spoil her. Winnie and Nona saw this and were jealous, feeling they'd been pushed aside for the new baby. They carry this jealousy to this day, resenting Bella's soft and easy life (as opposed to their own chaotic early life, with their mother Muriel marrying and conceiving them to get back at Balthazar, then abruptly divorcing her husband to get back together with Bal, uprooting all their lives without a second thought). Both twins are rather upset with their mother Muriel, and maaaay redirect these negative feelings toward their younger sister, who made for an easier target. Nona and Bella have a particularly catty relationship, while Winnie mostly struggles to keep the peace.

MiyaLaFlorDorada

Ohhh I just read the info about Bella and Winnie and Nona... Daaaamn I knew this family have problems cuz the whole mess of divorce and getting together with your ex when you have kids with another person but wow it kinda hurts you know? Cuz sorry If I'm wrong maybe exaggerating, I think if maybe Muriel and Bal did a better job in parenting and being less selfish maybe Bella and the twins would have a better relationship and I'm surprised the twins are more angry with Bella that with Bal about the supposed "golden child" thing. I don't know I think what Muriel did to her girls lives as little kids was pretty bad, she didn't even think about her twins and how the whole big change would affect them like they even miss their bio dad? Cuz for that type of jealousy maybe they do love Bal a lot and consider him a dad too. And in Bal case... I understand there's no favouritism but come on! There's so many way to make kids feel loved and secure, especially step kids that feel like their parents replace them when a new baby is born. Didn't he notice the jealousy of the girls? Or he was too excited with the new baby? And what was Muriel stand in all this? She is cool with Bella? And can I be a little ehm honest? If my parents did what Muriel/Bal did, I would 💯 be furious and with never ending recent, never talking to them until they even acknowledge they mess up and apologize or at least act like it changing their habits a little and then maybe maybe I would try to have a amigable relationship again. I just feel bad for the girls you know? Maybe I'm guessing but it must been hard for Bella too, the fact her sisters (even if no blood related) didn't even like her presence, because even if sure it's true Bella DID have a comfortable life and even if she have huge talent, she's still the daughter of a famous rock star so there's a big help in that, while the twins have to work for their jobs like everyone else even if they are also part of the rock star family, it doesn't change the fact Bella isn't to blame for that. It kinda reminds me to the relationship of my aunts/dad with my uncle that is their step brothers, it's not the same but, he's young, like he's old enough to be their son not their brother, the was the result of my grandpa remarriage after the abrupt death of my grandma when my dad was 13, but my grampa never told no one he married again, not even his kids, and suddenly this authoritarian lady comes and force her way in a family already form, and they have another baby when his own kids have like 20 something (my grandpa left for like 5 years but send money often cuz dictatorship in the country and he was in the red list). The funny thing they never never hate the lady and did the best to have a pacific life (even if she was VERY difficult) or their step brother, they actually like him, he was a very sweet and good men, but ufff my aunts were FURIOUS with my grandpa and still don't forgive him for the secret marriage, they give him the cold shoulder for years and treat him as polite you treat anyone not your dad. My grandpa was and is a very soft hearted man so he was very hurt for that, and it didn't help that he had a better relationship with his daughter in law, my mom, that with his daughters. And even if now things are much better, and even if these women could have been nicer to me, I can't really blame them about their dad you know? 🫤

lopoddity

Bal SAYS there's no favoritism. In truth there may have been a bit of favoritism. Or at least it felt like it to Winnie and Nona. It's quite the frustrating subject for them because they're upset about being upset, because...Balthazar isn't even their dad. They HAVE a dad, their bio dad, Horace. Horace is a perfectly okay father, just incredibly boring compared to Bal, so the twins feel incredibly guilty about feeling jealous in the first place, but also annoyed about being in this position in the first place because their mother DIVORCED their dad and moved them thousands of miles away from him to be with Bal. Of course they latched onto Bal! Which made Bella's birth all the more painful. :( Where was Muriel? Lemme tell you a secret. Muriel never wanted to be a mom. Not really. She wanted to be a rockstar, she wanted to be Bal's wife, she wanted to be BATTLE-AXE. She married Horace to try to get over Bal (and to punish him for choosing drugs and booze over her). She didn't set out to get pregnant, it just happened, and Muriel went along with it, hoping that this new life would bring her happiness. It did not. When Bal got sober, she promptly divorced Horace. Finally, she could shed her dull picket fence life and return to rock and roll....except she couldn't shed the two little lambs she was forever stuck with. Horace requested full custody, but Muriel refused to abandon her children. Instead she valiantly dragged her young daughters along for her new life and simply forced all the pieces into place. Bal was a good stepfather and the girls got everything they ever wanted. They grew up in total luxury, with literal rockstars for parents. They have ZERO reason to complain, Muriel feels. They got to spend as much time with their dullard dad as they wanted, whenever she and Bal were touring (which was often). She offered to teach them music like Bal did with Bella, but both girls were too flighty and hard-headed to get much out of it. That's not Muriel's fault. She did the best she could, considering everything. ...Anyway, Winnie seems to be doing fine at least. Muriel doesn't know why NONA has to be so dramatic, always digging up the past and starting fights with poor dear Bella. It's a good thing Muriel's too mature to let any of this bother her too much~ 😌

MiyaLaFlorDorada

Dude why?! Now I feel more sad 😭, I get the didn't want motherhood but still if you fuck up the kitchen then you should do the dishes, you could always have left them with their dad Muriel. The lives of the twins was all that mess because their mom selfishness and reckless behavior (and Bal too let's be honest) and if we are being honest even for how good Bella live is still it must stinks that you sisters don't like you because your dumb parents. Wait Bella knows the whole story? 😲 And I totally understand the feeling of "Why I'm upset? I'm have no blood shared with this person?" Because even so Bal IS their family too, he and Muriel CHOOSE to be together again, and as adults they should deal with the consequences of that especially when there's kids involved, these girls are HIS TOO, no matter blood, and the twins have every right to be upset and is comprensible they have issues. I wonder if the twins talked to Bal in a most honest way maybe he could see "Oh wow we really hurt them eh?" But I don't know, it just an hypothesis, because for what you tell me Muriel can't even accept that the whole situation wasn't normal or fair for the girls, and don't even acknowledge their feelings, like really Muriel? Too mature? A mature person doesn't do what you did, a mature person admit their mistakes and try to make amends, even if it wasn't unintentionally damage, Jesucristo I was getting trigger reading her thinking/opinion of the situatio 🤣. And even wonder why they can't stand Bella? I don't Muriel can't you guess why? 😂 "You have no reason to complain, isn't my fault you aren't happy or talent, you have everything you could have wanted, I did everything I could, I did my best even in that situation, WHY YOU ALWAYS BRING OUT THE PAST?! PAST IS THE PAST CHILD! WHY CAN'T YOU BEHAVE?! ALWAYS SO DRAMATIC AND WHINNYING, LOOKING FOR FIGHTS AGGGHHH GROW UP🙄" I swear I have heard all these for many adults in my live, even some form my parents, it wasn't after I make them see how unfair some things where for them and for me, that they thought "Wait ... That wasn't right, I didn't like it, why I'm repenting the same shit too?"

Morghann Patterson

Do you think Mona offered any sense of stability for Winnie and Nona? For Bella?

Morghann Patterson

Because god, I know what it’s like to have a turbulent mom- and sometimes it hurts really bad to know that they needed to Not Be Around You for things. I was lucky and my dad’s girlfriend was a stable figure in my teens, and continues to be today! Does Jamie get along with his cousins? Offer a listening ear?

lopoddity

Yes, the kids looooved Auntie Mona growing up. And Jamie! Mona would gather them all up and take them on outings to the beach/park/museums. But I feel like I'm giving off an exaggerated sense of how torn up Winnie and Nona and Bella are. They're not sitting around condemning their mother and weeping, they are all functional adults with a mostly okay relationship with their parents. Winnie is even close with Muriel as an adult, now that Muriel is leaning closer to kindly old lady than coked-out rockstar. Nona does....love her mom, and they sorta get along okay. Their interactions simply have an undercurrent of tension, with Nona not really knowing how to express her frustration/resentment with Muriel, Bal, and Bella in healthy ways, so she can end up picking fights. To an outsider, it can look like Nona is being needlessly critical to a sweet old lady, but said sweet old lady used to frequently miss the twin's birthdays to party with groupies, so. Nona tries to keep it contained, for the most part. Nona similarly TRIES not to pick on Bella anymore, because grown up Bella is a pretty formidable intellectual opponent (and she'll straight up headbutt Nona if needed), Nona has to think twice about stepping into the ring with her nowadays. It's fiiiiiine. It's fine.

MiyaLaFlorDorada

Damn not the "tension because even if things are okay now, I can't express how I feel because I don't know how to do it well, and people look at me like the bad guy when being snappy with old parent that was irresponsable with me growing up" situation 😭 Nona sweetie there's therapy you know? And you too Winnie being a people pleaser and the "person that calm down situations" isn't good honey. And don't worry you aren't exaggerating at all, these little yet perpetual conflicts are pretty much realistic, like I say, in my family's case, we are ok know, all my aunts have their adult lives and it's pretty chill, BUT sometimes I'm certain situations you can tell they REALLY need to talk about it as adults things of the past you know? Like I get it is hard but sometimes talking about these emotions heals a lot of unknown or very deep secret pain, cuz the strategic of contain emotions isn't going to last forever and it would explote in your face, I think. But still is very VERY telling that now that her mother calm down the whole rock scene now Winnie can be closer with Muriel. And even if I sound hyper critical, I'm no, I'm trying to give everyone a fair point, cuz I'm kinda with Bella in the "you bite at me I bite you back" aptitude, cuz no way I'm staying silent with someone searching for a fight for a mess and childhood shit that isn't even my fault.

PrincessMuffinArt

Ohhh. I had a feeling she was kinda an expy to Prima in the pandoraverse when I first saw her! (Also the names are similar so i immediately thought of her)

lopoddity

The tricky thing about single drawings and writing lore in the comment section isssss it's hard to convey the full story, like the full scope of every character. You can feel sorry for dear Horace Humblehoof. But he doesn't feel sorry for himself. Much like Muriel, Horace never truly wanted to be a parent, and honestly he never wanted to be a husband either. He simply did it because he felt it was expected. He didn't "love" Muriel (unclear if Horace experiences romantic love) and viewed their bond moreso as a business transaction. He was not surprised by the divorce...more quietly pleased to no longer have to endure Muriel's loud guitar practice in the garage. While he did miss his daughters, uh....well, he was also quietly pleased to no longer have to deal with their loud toys and spilled juice and snotty noses and constant squabbling. Horace is currently quite content living alone, working his tax consulting job, assembling ships in bottles. He sees his daughters a few times a year and shakes their hands and politely asks about their lives, and then goes about his business. Between himself and Balthazar- the famous rockstar married to another famous rockstar- Horace views himself as the clear winner of this situation.

I see Battle Axe is your Treehugger expy lop-

lopoddity

She's not. She's more like....Toph, from Legend of Korra. She's old, she comes from a different generation, she lacks emotional intelligence and thinks her kids are just whining. To her credit, it's a difficult thing to wrap her head around- she loves her daughters and despite her lack of enthusiasm for motherhood, she did work hard to ensure that her kids got everything Muriel never did. Loving parents (her and Bal, not her and Horace), a big house with all the toys and books they could ever want, expensive private schooling. It's 100x what her parents ever did for her, so she genuinely struggles to understand why her daughters are unhappy. Because she "wasn't around"? Her own dad practically lived at the pub, she hardly saw the man, but you don't hear HER complaining. Because she "dumped their dad"? Please. Convince Muriel with a straight face that they genuinely would've been happy with Horace, a man who thought eggshell white was too radical a color to paint the nursery with. Because she "invalidates their feelings"? Muriel just doesn't GET why they have to keep dragging up the past, is all! She's forgiven THEM of all their childhood transgressions and troublemaking, why can't they forgive HER and just live happily in the present...?

Corinne Stephenson

Now I just feel so bad for Winnie and Nona. Kids are intuitive and smarter than people give them credit for, so to go through everything that happened in their childhood and knowing deep-down that neither of their parents really wanted to sign up for this... It's brutal. I hope they can end up living their best lives (and that we get to see more of them, because damn I love these dynamics)

Scorp

I’m sorry, but how are you going to choose another name over BELLADONNA BAAST??? I mean, that is the sickest name ever!!! (I can’t believe I’m jealous of a goth goat)

lopoddity

Bella does think her birth name is sick! And she goes by it in her day to day life. But for her stage name, she wanted a degree of seperation between herself and her father. She wanted to prove she could stand on her own two hooves as a metal legend in her own right, not a nepo baby who needed daddy's brand name recognition to help her push CDs and t-shirts. Also, "Hemlock" sounded more androgynous :3

Bigsmile

PURPLE GOAT!!! Cupcake and Tibbs might be my favorites, but, I'm easily swayed by purple metal head goat..... Purple is best color fight me

lopoddity

Bal and Bel may look like goats, but they're actually sheep! Bella has the same soft curly fluffy wool-hair as her dad, she just straightens it~

Bigsmile

Ahhh, fluffy goats, still purple so still cool 😎 💜
