When Soup was a pup, they created the Pawberry Cream Pop, a delicious summertime treat made from fresh Pawberry Acres strawberries paired with hand-cranked vanilla ice cream. An instant hit among the neighborhood, the Shepherd family faced considerable pressure from friends and neighbors to sell the pops on a larger scale than little Soup could keep up with. Soup was eventually coaxed into sharing their closely-guarded recipe, and Saint and Strawberry made a deal with a local dairy farm to help produce the pops. All in all it proved to be a massive commercial success, and Pawberry Pops are currently available for purchase at your nearest neighborhood supermarket~

Soup has….mixed feelings about their homemade venture becoming a cheaply-made mass-produced artificially-flavored chunk of pink ice on a stick, but….the revenue generated from Pawberry Pops was, for many years, the main thing keeping the family farm afloat after Saint’s untimely death. So Soup supposes they can’t truly hate their frankenstein creation too much. Still, they’d really rather you swing by Pawberry Acres to try an authentic Pawberry Cream Pop. Full fat, full flavor….full cost. (What? A farm doesn’t pay for itself…)

As an adult, Soup is an actual trained chef, but presently is in charge of all of Pawberry Acres’ commercial food production ventures. Strawberry pies, candies, jams, jelly, juice, liquor, etc…Soup oversees it all. Quiet and unassuming, they are the backbone that’s allowed the floundering farm to survive this long.

God I love Soup. I need more of them

Gleeman and Artist

Ah yes not talking until you're asked about your special interest. Autistic mood. Glad to see more of Soup!

Rumpeltyltskyn

Does Pawberry Acres offer strawberry picking to the public? (A farm near where I live does, and it’s something I’ve done many years since I was a kid. Farm picked strawberries are leagues better than anything you’d get from a grocery store)

MiyaLaFlorDorada

Ok but that's so true about the real food compare to the cheap mass produced one! I remember my grandma HATE IT some "already made mass produced" things, like those artificial cubes of seasoning, weak she say, grandma use to buy the real plants, leafs and grains (even if a little more money) but she could so more and save it for the month, so she actually saved money. But I'm not sure if it was a good example cuz here in Chile many of our principal seasonings are actually quite cheap in the street food marketa, expect supermarkets but everything is more expensive there 😅. But we have these typical Chilean foods like empanadas, humitas and pastel de choclo, one time I wonder why people that made it by hand sell them for so much (like I knew homemade it's more expensive, but I was wondering cuz my mom does a AMAZING PASTEL DE CHOCLO!) and one day I tastes a mass produced meat empanada... That shit was a crime to my mouth 🤢. I I'm picking eater aka I have food sensitivities, but one curious thing I HATE ARTIFICIAL THINGS LIKE THOSE ALREADY MADE JUICE-TEA AND NUGGETS IM SORRY I SAY IT 😭 I prefer real chicken, a real meat burger, I make my own empanizados that those so call chicken/meat things, and I love tea, WTF THEY MAKE THAT SUGARY CRAP LIKE JUICE ANS CALL IT TEA?! 😭 The same artificial soup, and if I need to eat it, I add more water and a lot of seasoning. I love Soup and the real soup too, my faves chicken soup. Sure it cost more money but the taste is much better.

lopoddity

Yup! There's strawberry-picking, and you can come visit to try hand-made baked goods and the eternally popular pawberry pink lemonade! The Shepherd kids are tryyyyying to get Strawberry to permit and charge for weddings and photo shoots on the premises, rather than whipping out her rifle to threaten intruders doing tiktok dances in her photogenic strawberry fields

I love Sooouuuup!~ Do you think we'll get to see them make more food or otherwise see their adult life?

ElementInfusion

Yes, Hi, I love you, Soup, and would love nothing more than to just run my hands through your hair and scritch your ears and tell you what a good doggo you are and also can I have one of those full flavor pops please?

lopoddity

Thanks! A fun fact about Soup is their speaking voice sounds exactly like Cornfed from the Duckman cartoon

Lammergayier

SOUPPPP Question, has Soup ever wanted anything different for themself? Or are they content with where they are on the farm?

lopoddity

There may be a version of Soup that might’ve wanted to run their own restaurant, with themselves as a Gordon Ramsey type head chef brutally intolerant of the failures of their underling chefs. But alas. All the Pawberry pups have made peace with having to sacrifice to keep the family farm alive. While all the pups have their own jobs and hobbies and may even leave the farm for short periods, Skye is the only one that actually dared to move away and have her own life.

Soltori

I LOVE THEM SOOOO MUCH!! little sweetie!! do they have any other connections outside of the farm? friends, enemies, exes?

lopoddity

Soup just isn't the most social person. They like their solitude. Still, I'm considering giving them a rival~

Soltori

fair enough! do they have any hobbies that they can dedicate their time to? a rival would be sooo fun!! excited to see where you go with it :>

Corinne Stephenson

My request for more Soup content was answered and I'm on cloud nine. I just love them so much as a character. They're not cartoonishly wacky or what a lot of people would consider "interesting", but they're one of the most relatable characters for me. I experience people like Soup all the time, since I work in culinary.

PrairieGhosted

Noticing Soup and Saint having the same under eye markings 🥺💙

MiyaLaFlorDorada

Ohhhhhh reading that it makes so much sense now why Sky and her mom have a unique friction that her sibling don't get or can't see the problem. Even if they are content and have their "own lives", they just accepted these expectations and just carry on doing "what good kids do" putting their family first before everything and themselves. Skye choose what SHE wanted, her own personal dreams, wants and needs. For families like this usually it's a act of betray and selfishness, because family are always together, help each other, and never NEVER leave their family. But also it can be an act of bravery, cuz it takes guts to go against it's expected of you, especially from a matriarch/patriarch with strong personality. I don't remember from what comment I read, put you explain that Summer have "no jealousy" about Skye having her life in the city but she really really wish Skye just stayed in home, that she come back to the farm and live with them again. That's sounds like she missed her sister a lot. But also it's really curious that their mom compare them in a kinda ehm interesting way of showing support to Summer, and she don't rub it in her sister face (Skye Why can't you be more like your sister Summer?) I wonder if she knows that her sister thinks she's the favorite of their mom? Still it's so sad because I wonder if any of the pups actually did something Strawberry REALLY doesn't approve or sees as a danger of "leaving her side/their home" and get treated as Skye maybe they finally get where she's coming from? Like "Hey maybe we didn't get her struggles and doubts cuz actually we have enough support for mom since we just accepted our roles and never leave to have oir own thing?" Or what it would take for them to see. Sorry I'm doing waaaay too many assumptions maybe I'm wrong, but it's so interesting what you write 😅

Morghann Patterson

Nice!!!!! I love seeing how everyone has their own place on the farm in some way. And now Soup has more going than just….. soups. (Still a big soup fan though I assume)

Morghann Patterson

Also it’s really fun to see that there is Someone in the family who is actually business savvy. I’m seeing Soup balancing the books so clearly in my mind with a little pair of reading glasses.

worrywool

be careful lop, the last time you gave a pawberry pup a rival we ended up with the most impactful story of evangelical doggies lol

Ren

I'm hoping since they have a few products that they sell at mass production that Soup creates all types of foods but soup is their one thing they don't commercialize and sell at mass.

Bigsmile

I love a good rivalry! Spite and grudges are fun and healthy

Bigsmile

Honey be mad jealous that everyone loves Soup's Pawberry Cream puffs while her lemon bars languish in the dirt.

ummhallelujah

Curious, is Soup a name they picked themself or did their family start calling them that after discovering Soup's soup obsession?

lopoddity

Me: this is Soup's rival, a one-off character I call Springles McDingleberry Me, six months later: Springles McDingleberry's mother was unable to access proper contraceptive care due to conservative-backed abstinence-only sex education in school, leaving Springles to endure the inherent trauma of growing up poor and disenfranchised in America....

lopoddity

Thank you!!! ❤️ That really means a lot, I really struggle with simplifying characters and resisting the urge to drown a drawing in excessive detail. It's tough to trust that sometimes a simplified scribble can convey an idea/characterization better than a more elaborate drawing can.

lopoddity

Soup is a name they chose for themselves. :3 Soup and Summer both had different birth names. Summer doesn't care if people know hers, but Soup feels no connection to their own deadname and no one may address them as anything but Soup.

Emily Lemur

I like to think since bugs can be pets in this world, they have some “free range” honeybees or pretty butterflies and adorable lil ants that contribute to the farm. All of them requiring a sort of livestock license perhaps… Just something that occurred to me! :)

lopoddity

It runs in the family, all the Shepherd kiddos have it. :3 Soup is the only pup that inherited Saint's heterochromia though, though the order is flipped. Soup's right eye is brown and the left is blue, while Saint's right eye is blue and the left is brown.

lopoddity

Soup "It was probably an improvement on the taste"

worrywool

whenever you assign a character as a 'one-off' lop, you have set yourself up for failure XD every artist knows that

FaeMoona

i love soup, who are they friends w? any of the other cast that we know of or yet-to-be revealed individuals? i could see them being buddies w marnie if theyre close to Snowball. how about the other pawberry pups?

PrairieGhosted

Omg I bet he had some jokes to make about them being a complete set together/keeping one spare eye on each other , I am so curious if Saint had specific dynamics w each of the kids ...I love seeing how their parents colors/design/personalities come out in strawberry pups :3

Mastodon

I love Soup! They have such a nice desaturated blue/purple palette, and I love how their hair gets fluffier every time they show up, haha. Is there a chance anybody in the Fuzzbutts cast encountered Pawberry Pops in the wild before getting to know a member of the Shepherd family?

Bigsmile

To be real, I'm a huge sucker for lemon based deserts, are they good enough to tolerate 20 minutes of weird polical proselytizing?

lopoddity

Pawberry Pops aren't like, commercially available on a national scale, they're sold at local supermarkets in the midwest states bordering Pawberry Acres. I'm uncertain if anyone in the cast would've tried one, because I'm still unsure where the main setting of FB is in relation to Pawberry Acres (which is somewhere in furry Montana). FB is either set in Washington, Oregon, or California, idk yet, and the proximity to Pawberry Acres determines whether any of our main cast would happen upon a box of pawberry pops at furry trader joes. Skye has definitely tried the commercial version, though. And she hates how cheap they taste and how homesick they make her feel. And then she binge eats the whole box

lopoddity

Honey's lemon bars are...edible, which makes them practically gourmet in her college-aged brain. In reality, they're very claggy (can u tell I watch british bakeoff), almost gluey in texture, they never firm up quite right and the flavors are off because she used bottled lemon juice and no vanilla extract, and just blams it with a heap of great value powdered sugar to cover up any cracks and lumps. You can certainly find better bake sale fare from the ladies of Merry's church. Soup themselves could make delicate ooey-gooey pink pawberry-lemon bars that would make Honey shit herself from jealousy

Bigsmile

*Flips Honey's lemon tray

SumireSai

...Is Soup an Artemis expy? (Sorry if that's an annoying question D:)

lopoddity

I get it, they're both enbies with similar facial markings. But nope. Artemis is Artemis and Soup is Soup

CardstockBroth

I love the recurring lemon bar slander. I'm imagining Honey being forced to sit down and eat a lemon bar baked by all the characters who can actually cook. Soup, Zelda, Jamie, Lulu, Bob, Tibbs, Mal. It's a very simple gag, and that makes it sooooo effective.

lopoddity

Honey: Hey!! At least my lemon bars are better than my mom's! 😡 Maple: Hehee, yeah, mine are more like lemon pudding! Merry: ...That pudding was supposed to be lemon flavored??

SumireSai

ALSO YOU MADE THAT POP LOOK REALLY APPETIZING??? HOW CAN A DRAWING MAKE ME HUNGRY AHHDHSJSHSJ (ꏿ﹏ꏿ;)

lopoddity

Thanks! I really want to do a piece on the food of FB sometime. The pawberry pop drawing was sitting in my notebook for a year, there's looots of other food product notes I'm sitting on. We've yet to see grub butter, or deep-fried kibble fritters, or even a good look at Strawberry's famous pawberry pie

SumireSai

I'd really like to see those too! I have a question about culinary sanitation in Fuzzbuts. In our world, kitchen staff wear hats or hairnets to keep hair out of food—but in a world of anthropomorphic animals covered in fur, how do they manage that? I doubt they wrap themselves up (though that would be hilarious), so do they just shed less than real mammals? Or do they just brush their fur a lot before cooking?

lopoddity

The logical answer is that food service workers are required to keep their coats brushed and clipped and their hair contained in hairnets. The silly answer is that perhaps FB's food culture is different from ours and they view getting a chunk of fur in their meal like a prize in a crackerjack box. It's good luck, make a wish

Mastodon

Ah, gotcha! That makes sense with what we know about the farm already. Also poor Skye :[ it's hard to be a grown up!

Emily Lemur

Chiming in to say: I like to think Honey’s lemon bars are a metaphor for Honey herself. Her recipe improves and turns out correctly once she’s freed herself from her self restraints.

AsTheJayFlies

I wonder if reptiles, birds, and hairless mammals are common/favored in the food service industry for that reason. id imagine at least some reptiles would find comfort in the heat of a busy kitchen

Rainbowapple

Damn you Lop! Now I crave a dessert I can never have 😭 awesome work! And I Love Soup sm 🥺

Syd D.

Saints expression here kills me lmao I love him. Also I'd kill to try Soups cooking

Dean

In response to another comment in here (didn't want to jump in on their thread) I'm surprised to hear FB takes place so far in the furry equivalent West US! Maybe it's projection on my part but I always read your characters as Southern 😭

lopoddity

A lot of my characters are southern. :3 They just happen to have all mostly conglomerated in one big melting pot state (probably California) so I can have most of the cast in one place. Here are some of the birthplaces of cast that I've decided on (may be subject to change) Saint: North Florida, not to be confused with South FL. Florida paradoxically becomes more "southern" the farther north you go. Saint has a verrrry strong southern drawl and uses a shitload of contractions, words just get smashed together, eg "I'm going to" becomes "I'm gon'", with lots of esoteric southernisms, eg. "I'm 'bout red-assed about it" = "That made me very angry") He dreamed of being a traveling musician, right up til he met Strawberry (and all Pawberry pups): Montana. Strawberry has a mild western accent with a blunt, harsh style of speaking, it can sound like she's literally barking orders. Yet her singing voice is sweet and gentle, it knocked Saint's socks off the first time the met (karaoke night at a cheap bar). Skye is the only pup to have left home, moving to California. Merry: Bumfuck Nowhere, Alabama. Merry’s dad threw him out as a teen, which ehhhh suited Merry just fine, he hated Alabama and still does. In his youth Merry’s accent was very twangy and bouncy, it's slowed down to a syrupy drawl as he's gotten older. Eleanor (and also Eva): Georgia. Eleanor has a very light, airy debutante drawl, and prides herself on sounding very prim and proper. Toffee, Topher: Georgia, born and raised before Merry’s church really took off and he expanded/relocated to California. Toffee has a soft, near-undetectable southern accent that comes out in full when he's angry or excited, orrrr whenever he's around Merry and starts to subconsciously mirror him. Like Eleanor, he pronounces "spoiled" like "spolled". Topher meanwhile insistently tells people he was born in California and gets stupid mad anytime he catches himself reflexively saying "y'all". Maple: Minnesota, dontcha know. Her parents moved to California when she was a teen, and this is of course where she later met Merry and the Meadowsweets. Maple drags out her vowel sounds, "bag" becomes "baag", Minnesota becomes "Minnesoooohta". Honey, Mal, Logan, Jupe, and like a billion other characters: California. Honey speaks with a ton of vocal fry and talks with an upward inflection? As though everything she says is a question? She also sometimes uses modern slang incorrectly. Sunny, Cass, Jude, Buddy: Wisconsin, though they eventually moved to Cali. Sunny has a light Wisconsin accent and says stuff like "ope" and "cripes". Tibbs, Lulu: Louisiana of course (New Boarleans)

CardstockBroth

I always assumed fluff buts took place in new york

Lammergayier

Fascinating!! 👀 Maybe it's bc I'm from PA myself but for whatever reason I had just assumed that FB took place in Philadelphia LMAO. Probably bc it's just what I'm most familiar with and was projecting 😅 tho now that I think about it Cali makes a Lot more sense

lopoddity

I think waaaaay back in the beginning I might’ve said it was set in Zoo York, but I'm not sure. I think I never committed to a particular location

Dean

Oh Topher is hilarious sorry. As a Georgia boy myself (and I'm sure a lot of other Southerns can confirm) the more pissed off you are the more Southern ya sound. If one "y'all" makes him mad then well.... oh no. Gonna get stuck in the southern accent feedback loop fr.

Morghann Patterson

Could be a cat or a squirrel. Fast talking salesman who goes a mile a minute while Soup slow blinks. “Okay. Uh huh.”

Scyllarus

I think it's kinda interesting that Honey tries to do the tradwife thing at first while also basically disrespecting her mom for being a tradwife. I always wonder like...what kind of life did you envision for yourself? How were you supposed to...tbh, be a "sensible sapphic"? I get that the answer is basically "you find out that your community isn't as accepting as you hoped and grow from there" but like. Honey. You literally respect Maple *less* for giving up her hopes and dreams for her child, what the hell were you expecting??? Also, on an only very slightly related note, I like the idea that Soup has come up with foods that are inspired by their friends and family, ie, Skye having a blueberry cobbler recipe dedicated to her. (This is definitely not me wanting to draw character-inspired foods) I think Honey would get a blood orange and cream cheese bar if she ever managed to get on Soup's good side. It would be delicious and probably would have killed her with jealousy if she hadn't done some growth already.

PrincessMuffinArt

As an Alabamaian, yeah, merry i dont blame you. Theres like only… two(?) decent places to live in this state (the big cities like Birmingham and huntsville and its surrounding towns). The rest is blah. I usually tell people I’m from GA (some family lives there and when i visit there its great) or birmingham because i spent my teen years there and as soon as we moved back to this boring city i do NOT hesitate to say i’m from birmingham. also haha topher’s “y’all” slipping out when hes mad. It’s the same with me. My southern accent comes out the most when I’m on a long rant. Most of my mutuals (and bf) are from up north so they are quick to point it out. (On the opposite, his NJ accent slips out when hes ranting)

PrincessMuffinArt

Also haven’t commented on how good the popsicle looks! Ice cream and strawberry combo sounds amazing!

Doeling

As an LA native born and raised you’ve done a great job depicting how culturally diverse the state is! In fact it’s making me more than a little homesick lol Also no now I (lovingly) hate Honey so much more now because I’m now imagining her speaking exactly like my hs bully

Res Hound

Huh! I always assumed Fuzzbutts took place in a country that was like the US but smaller, so like, Florida and Montana could be neighbors

lopoddity

It does, were FB a tv show it would take place on a small Equestria-like landmass with animal pun city names for all the locations. I say irl states/locations for convenience sake, Florida and Montana don't exist in FB like they do in America. And also cuz I'm just not great at coming up with animal pun names. MLP set a high precendent with shit like Fillydelphia and Manehatten, meanwhile I'm like umm...Saint's from Tailahassee, maybe? St. Dogustine? 🥺👉👈

Tibbles Yorkie789

Well Lulu and Tibbs have to be from LouiSUIana for Suidae, with a main cast set in CaliFURnia, but some of these are difficult to make puns for 😭 for Montana I could only imagine MonTIBETANa, for a Tibetan mastiff but it doesn’t make that much sense with the dog already being named after a place-

werewargs (randy)

Really loving Soup’s current design btw! They’re so cool I luv them <33 Also I adore the little Saint at the bottom holding an unenthusiastic Soup lmao

MiyaLaFlorDorada

You know reading this again I wonder, does your verse have "food mascots" that's the name? Not necessary fantasy more like how some cookies have a sweet grandma as their logo. I'm asking cuz I wonder since in your universe there's still discrimination and stereotypes, is there's some not so ehm good names/illustrations that are very problematic today but also it's obvious that's from the past. For example like the racist caricature in the past, you know the black & white and some color on how those were use in stuff for cooking, cleaning, etc. I remember from some old magazines my grandma have, and sure there's wasn't racism but Jesus the xenophobia and sexism was almost hilarious and sad at the same time. Also it's because I still remember how even for all the ignorance I'm surprised some caricature for food in our country using people of other races/culture weren't as problematic as I thought, for example there's this very famous brand in Chile called "Negrita" (again in my language spanish is a loving word like darling, sweetie, honey, etc literally is like "little black girl/lady" but even people that their skin is white as snow use it as a loving nickname for each other partners, so isn't use literally, it means for us a informal dear), is traditional condiment, very importat in the Chilean cuisine, a mixture of spices, it was invented in the 1940, and the imagen of the brand is the drawing of a pretty black skin lady. Honestly if we compare the difference how usually other people non-white where portray in that time, also Chile have a lack of exposition to afro people in general in those times, is a normal vintage drawing. I wonder if other countries have things like that, I'm really curious, cuz art in publicity is also part of our culture soooo it's almost like a time line.
