on my last post I kinda implied that Tibbs didn't like Perry when they first met, but that's not actually true~

Tibbs is (was) a school custodian. Fellow faculty and staff tended to treat him like he was invisible, only addressing him when they needed a spill cleaned up. It didn't help that Tibbs is naturally pretty quiet (he prefers to listen), so his coworkers assumed he was standoffish, or foreign, or just another big dumb prey animal. Perry the science teacher is the first to speak more than a few sentences to Tibbs, often shooting the breeze with the boar when they catch each other in the hallways......at first Tibbs is startled and doesn't really know what to do, but finds himself enjoying Perry's random tales of how trying to substitute applesauce for eggs in his grandma's cobbler recipe led to him learning just how flammable flour truly is. Tibbs slowly starts opening up, giving one-word answers and occasional dry remarks that make Perry light up....hmm. It seems Tibbs has found his very first work friend.

raaaambling notes:

Perry (and Tibbs) worked at a prestigious private school that is not just historically all-carnivore, but also largely consists of feline students and faculty. It was founded so that carnivore kids would have a safe, accommodating space to learn (young predators don't often know their strength and can accidentally destroy furniture or claw classmates). Prey animals did not want their children attending such an academy out of worry for their kids' safety, and largely treated the school like an ugly blemish on the city map. As the decades passed, the academy would eventually blossom into an insular, snobby institution all its own. Administration in particular tends to look down on prey animals. Sure, prey are fine people, but they're just not cut out to be leaders, makers, and shapers, not like the bright-eyed, bushy-tailed students of Klawfanger Academy!

In Fuzzbutts, predators are meant to be noble, powerful, and dominating. It's seen as highly undignified, even fetishistic, for a predator to date prey. And for Perry, a small lynx, to date a giant, powerful boar (and a janitor to boot).....it's seen as unforgivably disgraceful. Perry should be with a predator his size or larger.....not a pig. Clearly, Perry is a pathetic simp or a pervert getting off on a prey animal lording its power over him, in a total perversion of the natural order! I guess the closest analogue in our (patriarchal) world might be how people might view a man dating an especially tall, powerful, or wealthy woman. Attitudes range from dismissive to openly mocking- Perry and Tibbs face a unique sort of stigma, where Perry is the one shouldering most of the social scrutiny. In an unfortunate sort of double standard, Tibbs tends to get approval from other prey animals ("Congrats on making a pred your bitch!"), which deeply upsets and irritates him, because Perry is his equal, and always has been.

The school....does not like the optics of one of their teachers consorting with swine- Perry taking lunch breaks with Tibbs was embarrassing enough, but the discovery that they've started dating is the final straw. Faculty and parents turn on Perry in an instant and demand he be terminated. The principal instead plans to quietly fire Tibbs and claim Perry had a “lapse in judgement” that’s since been resolved. After all, Perry is a highly trained educator, much more difficult to replace than Tibbs, a “lowly” custodian. Perhaps the school moves to terminate Tibbs, but Perry takes a stand, threatening to walk if they do so. Unfortunately he’s overplayed his hand. The principal was a little sympathetic to Perry (who among us hasn’t indulged in a foolish flight of fancy with prey?), but the parents have her backed up against a corner, and no way is she risking her position (and the school’s integrity) for one teacher. Perry, now a target for ridicule and harassment by the community, argues that society won’t change unless people are brave enough to take a stand, that she and the other administrators will set a good example for the students by doing the right thing (even if it’s hard!). The principal tiredly says that’s a nice sentiment……now be sure to have your classroom cleared out by noon tomorrow.

It’s a difficult situation all around, made worse by the fact that other local schools consider Perry too scandalous and deviant to employ. It’s Tibbs who proposes they end their relationship, as it’s caused nothing but trouble….and both of them do seriously consider it. But ultimately, neither can pull the plug. Because their relationship was never about some perverse, socially aberrant fantasy (like the parents claimed), or about proving something (like the principal thought), but just the simple fact that they like being around each other, and don’t want to stop.

And who’s to say it was all for nothing? Perhaps many years later, one of Perry’s old students visits the bed and breakfast. She says she just HAD to come visit once she learned about it. She’s a small wolverine, timidly holding the hand of her girlfriend, a moose. Their parents don’t approve, but it's comforting to know they aren’t alone? To say Perry was touched would be an understatement, and Tibbs might’ve tried to drown the girls in blueberry pancakes.

I find it funny that they prey animals are seen as only small and weak in comparison to predator animals. When in reality when push comes to shove a deer could some serious damage (and eat animals as well) and othe prey animals Esssspecially a boar could prolly take down a lynz Also there's a reason carnivores take down the lame and the weak of a herd not the strongest.

Do any of the students try to do anything about Perry and Tibbs being fired or do they not know? I'm assuming if the school wanted to keep it hush hush, the students probably wouldn't know. I do love all the FB couples, but I gotta say Perry and Tibbs are quickly becoming a favorite.

I cannot describe with words how much I enjoy how you color fur. It looks so nice bruh how do u even do that 😔

How do omnivores fit into the whole pred/prey thing? Are they considered prey if their species was never known to actively hunt? Like technically hogs are probably one of the most omnivorous animals you'll find. A pig will happily chow down on a troth full of vegetables as happily as one full of meat, BUT because pigs very rarely actually HUNT, and eat greens more often, then they are prey animals? I guess in FB you're only considered a pred if you're 100% carnivore, and omvis are lumped in with prey because they can have both? Or do you follow the basic food-chain rules?

I think a theme in Fuzzbutts will be that people rarely fit into neat little boxes. :3 Where to begin with omnivores....they certainly muddy the waters of the pred/prey dynamic citizens like to pretend is so cut and dry. In a world of sapient, civilized animals, terms like "predator" and "prey" are hard to define. Basically: -Predator: any animal with a prey drive/ any animal that consumes meat to survive. -Prey: any animal has little to no prey drive/any animal that is eaten. Boars are indeed omnivorous, Tibbs isn't picky at all when it comes to food. He's even tried bacon, cuz that's pretty metal, dude. Tibbs goes fishing with Perry often and will enjoy a fresh smoked trout right alongside his tiny husbo. Yet despite this meat consumption, Tibbs still gets categorized as "prey", because he is a pig. As we've discussed before, most meat in FB is fake, made from beans or other protein sources. Yet one can go to the grocery store and walk out with a cut of REAL meat. It's grown in labs, cultivated from animal cells. The meat isn't ambiguous mush, either- you can purchase cuts of beef, pork, chicken, etc.....even more obscure meats like kangaroo and wallaby (popular with the dingoes of Bruce's homeland). Yes, this DOES make many prey species hella uncomfortable, to this day eating meat remains a deeply debated topic. Tibbs is made of the same matter that makes up the ham, sausage, and bacon that carnivores so eagerly devour, ergo, he's considered "prey". Tibbs would not label himself as prey or predator, like most omnivores he thinks the binary is kinda stupid. Meat from predators is not really produced and consumed (it's typically too stringy and gamey, not like the fatty cuts of popular domestic animals). An omnivore like Tibbs is considered prey, yet omnivores like Cupcake and Sunny are not (they have prey drives and are not regarded as "food" species). While carnivores and herbivores each have their own expected social norms and stereotypes, omnivores are a mixed bag. Carnivores and herbivores don't like how they can't lock omnivores down into certain sets of expectations (eg. carnivores view bears as admirably strong, while herbivores see them as frightening and unpredictable.....so what is either group to do upon meeting a lazy sloth bear that just wants to eat bugs and fruit?). Many omnivores change up their diet and behaviors to better fit in with the dominant social group. Cupcake doesn't openly eat meat because it makes the boarding house guests nervous, while Tibbs probably eats more animal protein than the average boar by virtue of being married to/often cooking meals for an obligate carnivore.

Thank you! I'm still learning how to render fur tbh ^^;

Thanks, glad to hear it! :D I figured Perry's students were pretty young, maybe elementary or middle school aged. Definitely old enough to be upset about their teacher leaving, but not old enough to really question authority or wield any real power to help. Perry probably got a really nice goodbye card though, and probably a dogpile of hugs.

Propaganda exists in Fuzzbutts. :> Many prey citizens enjoy the privilege they wield being seen as docile and harmless.....I can imagine a disgruntled elephant bull going on a rampage through his workplace during musth....yet the media might spin the story, oh old man Tuskrussel was a gentle giant, just look at this picture of him as a cute calf, he'd never hurt a fly, it must've been those mean pred coworkers that set him off.....

Bigsmile

Look at mr Stropinopolus! He's just a big Ole Hippo! Hippos eat veggies and watermelons! Totally friendly and not a walking war crime waiting to happen....... Right?

D

This might have made me tear up a little... the bit at the end hits close to home
