Interesting question! >:3

Fuzzbutts!Bruce does not have the same hangups about his sexuality that his Pandoraverse counterpart did. Despite growing up under his father Silas, a bigoted homophobic asshole, Bruce does not internalize his father's views out of pure spite and rebellion. Even from a young age, Bruce knew his father was wrong about many things, so why should he trust his opinions on the so-called "queers"....?

Pretty much the second Bruce turned 18, he moved away to the big city to get away from his father and brother. Attending a massive zooniversity (and majoring in biology) opened Bruce's eyes to the great rainbow of queer identities, and Bruce knew he must treat these people with the exact same respect he afforded everyone....which is to say, eh, the bare minimum.

Bruce himself grew up feeling largely disinterested in people of all genders. Rather than exploring this and choosing a label for himself, he decides to bury himself in his studies, dodging most attempts by his peers to get him to hang out. The only one that succeeds in piercing Bruce's asocial armor is the annoyingly adorkable Priscilla, his first college roommate, who becomes his lifelong best friend.

However, once Priscilla completes her bachelor's, she moves out, leaving Bruce in need of a new roommate while he works on his Master's degree. Enter Jupe.

Jupiter (Jupe for short) was a law student at the time. A slick, silver-tongued American red fox, Jupe sports both a flashy unique color morph and a fondness for emotionally unavailable men. Intrigued by Bruce's closed-off mannerisms and brusque nature, Jupe sets a personal challenge to crack Bruce open like an egg. Partly out of boredom, he begins a teasing, antagonistic quasi-friendship with Bruce, with the two often trading barbs over breakfast. Bruce's feelings of irritation slowly turn to fond annoyance, unaware that the insults and academic rivalry they share is turning into a slow, strange courtship. This is not uncommon for carnivores, especially ones of the same sex, who may show off their strength and flash their fangs at each other as a convoluted way of flirting.

One night, over pizza and beer, Jupe shares an unusually personal story about his first boyfriend. Bruce shares that for as obnoxious as Jupe is, he does envy his confidence. Jupe knows exactly who he is, while Bruce is a mystery even to himself. Straight, gay, bi, pan.....who knows? Jupe is quiet for a moment, then asks if Bruce would like to find out.

One fumbling hook-up becomes two, then many, with Jupe eventually deciding he wants to date this bristly awkward gremlin in an official capacity. He loudly declares himself Bruce's boyfriend ("aw, baby's first boyfriend!!"), and while Bruce is flustered and huffy about suddenly having some sassy gay fox this close, he can admit.....it's nice. Really nice.

Unfortunately, a few months into their relationship, Jupe gets a job offer in another city. Bruce, still new to this whole "feelings" thing, does not want to seem clingy, so he encourages Jupe to leave- follow his dreams, meet new people. Jupe wants to ask Bruce to come with him, but secretly is afraid of Bruce saying no. They both awkwardly concede that a long-distance relationship wouldn't work out, and decide it's best to end things. The two part on a bittersweet note, with Jupe seizing a squawking Bruce in a hug at the airport, and insisting they'll always be friends.

Though he pretends otherwise, Bruce still thinks about Jupe, from time to time.

notes:

-Bruce is demisexual, a shade under the asexual umbrella. He doesn't feel attraction to people unless he forms a bond with them first- and even then, it's rare. He doesn't pursue relationships and can count every crush he's ever had on one paw. Curiously though, he's got a secret fondness for romance novels.

-Jupe is a loose, looooooose expy of Huck. His smarmy, sarcastic exterior hides a sensitive, sweet center. Hobbies include dancing, clubbing, drinking, and cooking (he made that marmalade).

Those colors and that homoeroticism 😍

Hmm I spy some bite marks on Jupes shoulder

Gosh Jupe's colors are absolutely amazing. His design is just so good. I can't really check at the moment, but is he in anyway related to like a ... Idk coyote/fox unnamed character you drew a while back? One that had a hat and boots as well?? As I said I can't really check if their designs were indeed similar rn but his vibe kinda reminded me of him.

Azure-Art-Wave

Also, I might be wrong, but wasn't Logan an expy for Huck as well? Did you branch him into multiple different characters?

lopoddity

Most carnivores are bitey in bed, but Tasmanian devils are notoriously aggressive

lopoddity

Nah. :3 That dude's name is Django, he's a coyote. He and Jupe are not related (or have even met), though they are both smug buttholes

PrincessMuffinArt

Jupe’s color palette reminds me of a desert! I really like him! Also he’s very fluffy! Also, aww.. glad to see they ended on good terms instead of a rough breakup (unlike Pandoraverse!Bruce).

lopoddity

Logan began as a Huck expy, but eventually just became his own dude. Just like Skye started as a Skyla clone, then went in a different direction. I kinda let the FB characters go wherever they wanna go at this point

Azure-Art-Wave

Btw, since you obviously decided to not be binded by Pandoraverse plotlines and go towards different paths on Fuzzbutts (like making Skye and Sunny a couple instead of maintaining Bruce with Stormy's expy) is there like a character in specific that you just have in mind for him in the current timeline? (Since Jupe seems to be a thing of the past currently) I'm asking about it but I wholeheartedly understand if he's not meant to be with someone just for the sake of shipping. I am demisexual myself (and panromantic in fact) and I'm always amazed at how accurately you described how it feels like in both Fuzzbutts Bruce and Cupcake. Has my seal of approval.

Azure-Art-Wave

It's alright I understand! In fact although I had already noticed similarities, I only asked about this because you mentioned it yourself, it crossed my mind but I didn't want to make remarks on my own because I don't want to sound annoying with the narrative of every Fuzzbutts character automatically being a Pandoraverse expy and striping them of their own credibility, and just being able to be their own new character without being binded to a previous one

TheTabbyBadger

Wow, loving Jupe’s design, that color pattern is beautiful! Also just a comfy piece of casual intimacy, I love it!

lopoddity

I have a loose idea, but I'm also planning on letting the story go wherever it goes. I already have at least one character who veered away from the love interest I planned for them. We'll see where Bruce ends up. I can tell you one thing, I didn't plan on getting so attached to Jupe, I may bring him back into the present story just for funsies

Blizwolfthewolf

Love the color morph you used for Jupe (cross fox?). Also, reading the demisexual Bruce notes made me kinda cry because holy shit if that ain't how I've felt about attraction and relationships all my life. 😭

Rheanna

If I remember right, the original plan was for Bruce and Sunny to get together. I know everyone has definitely branched out from your original plan, but do you still see that happening at any point in the distant future? Or are we looking at more of a long term happily ever after for Sunny and Skye and something a little different for Bruce?

lopoddity

In present day FB, Skye and Sunny have been dating for 2-3 years, Sunny has recently moved into a boarding house alongside Bruce, and Bruce's feelings toward Sunny slowly go from active disdain to begrudging friendship to something more. I haven't really touched on any romantic notes between Bruce and Sunny because I want to explore how they become friends first. As for how everything develops and who ends up with who, sadly you'll have to wait and see~

Gleeman and Artist

Ohhh I love Jupes design. I def would love to see more of him in the future. I'm demisexual as well, but I'm a hopeless romantic and I really love queer romance stories, so we're definitely out there. Being ace is just as much as a spectrum as any other queer identity.

Strixcaliber

BRUCIE MY BELOVED 🥺 I love Jupes design too

Robo87

I fucking love him and them!!!!
