And I love Tibbs, for himself and because he reminds me of my big boar man, too. I’m awfully sorry to hear you had a bad birthday. I hope you can still find time and opportunity to celebrate your day, even if it’s not on your actual birthday. Birthday-redos are totally allowed! :3 Kiiiiind of? Tibbs has been largely disinterested in romance or intimacy (or people, for that matter), and then BAM he hits his first adulthood rut season and is awash in a fuckton of testosterone and does not want to do anything besides eat and exercise and fuck, heavy emphasis on the last one. Unlike Dom, Tibbs feels no need to perform an awkward charade of hypermasculinity, or date high status women to improve his social standing. The hormone change, combined with Tibbs simply growing up with a void inside him left by childhood emotional neglect, pushes him into thrill-seeking behavior. This quickly veers into dangerous territory. Basically, the difference between him and Dom is that Dom only acts all smarmy-macho because he simply feels he’s expected to. Tibbs however is acting this way because it makes him feel alive, powerful, and confident. Neither of them are being true to themselves, but for different reasons.

Ha! When I was first imagining Joan, she was less a character and more of a plot device, a malicious figure who sets Tibbs down a bad road. And at one point I considered that she would lie about being pregnant as a means of controlling Tibbs. But then I inevitably got attached to her and decided to humanize her some, so no more pregnancy scare for our young hog couple. Tibbs is being dumb here, but he ain't THAT dumb. Lulu herself got pregnant too young, she probably launched into a loud tactless mortifying "don't be silly, wrap your willy!" speech the SECOND Tibbs hit puberty
