Saint being himself

1.)  Saint physically cannot let Strawberry’s big badonkadonk go lovingly unsmacked. This scene may or may not depict how he died

ps. Strawberry got some design tweaks. She’s a rough collie, where Saint is a mutt-shepherd-border collie thing

2.) Saint giving his precious baby girl some fatherly advice. This joke is shamelessly stolen from Horsecomix on tumblr

bonus: Strawberry is not above a stealth counterattack!

I MEAN- can you really blame him? Saint is doing everyone a service for tapping that THICK BOWL OF OATMEAL

Emma Breslauer

Lmao love these, Saint always has the best expressions! How would he and Sunny have gotten along if he hadn't passed away?

Murkydepths

Why does he slightly remind me of bowser xD (This is good I love bowser)

Ren

Lol was Sunny still a cop when she met him or had she already quit the force before meeting Sky?

Corinne Stephenson

The only thing I dislike about Saint is that he's dead. I wish we could have him interacting with present day characters. He's a glorious, unhinged force of nature and is one of my favorites.

Imogen

buenos dias strawberry

RagingRiptide

The lore I learn about saint the more sad I am that he’s dead 😩

Sunny had been off the force for at least a year when he met Skye. He was actually working as a waiter when they met, he was working at a restaurant where Skye got stood up for a date. He brought her a hanky and some potato poppers and they hit it off from there

Calastor

Saint's energy in these drawings is unparalleled xDDD @lop - out of curiosity, have you had the chance to watch any episodes of Bluey? I marathoned the show during a recent recovery period after surgery and I'm very tickled at the thought of what the Heeler family might look like in your style =3

lopoddity

*encountering a mild inconvenience* Bandit: Aw biscuits Saint: Well fuck

lopoddity

*grabbing you by the shoulders* listen. LISTEN. I LOVE Bluey. I've seen almost every episode of Bluey. I watch it with my niece. For a while, it was my comfort show after stressful days at work. I didn’t intend for my farm dog family to bear such a resemblance to the Heelers, but I'm not unhappy about it. Maybe one day I'll post some of my Bluey doodles. ;3

Lauka2

Saint randomly "arresting" his kids to drill home the lessons is a thing i wasn't expecting to imagine, but happy none the less

lopoddity

Oh they'd get along fantastically! ....Eventually. Sunny is a sheltered dog from the suburbs and would probably spend a period thinking this cussing, belching, hulking dog is out to murder Sunny for dating his baby girl. It doesn't help that during their first meeting, Saint is sitting on the front porch cleaning his shotgun (and waving cheerfully at Sunny), or that Saint jumps right to treating Sunny the way he does his own kids, which means lots of affectionate/painful headlocks/noogies, shoulder punches, and invitations to "wrassle". Sunny would definitely be a nervous wreck around Saint for a while

cactus bastrop

i just know he defaces the cop dog on paw patrol merch

Rheanna

I was inspired to scroll his character tag because I freakin love this big ole loudmouth redneck and I gotta ask, since he was retconned from the first version, is it still canon that he and Strawberry were basically childhood friends who had an oopsie pregnancy and got married? I’d guess if it was Saint’s “proposal” would’ve been a lot louder and more country than how polite and good-boy-doing-the-right-thing-esque the first version seemed to be though? also super off topic but how’s your dog? does she still wear cute little sweaters or is she a tough terrier now who don’t need no stinkin coat?

Nyanpasu

Hes like a hillbilly Bandit from Bluey and I love it

SmilesPerHour

Aww, Saint looks like a real fun guy and a great father/husband. Did the family... change after his passing? Did Strawberry and her daughter become more distant, or closer?

m0nk3y_m4n

Please can we keep Saint, Lop? We love him so much 🥺 The grave can have Liv instead

lopoddity

Ha! Funny you ask about Daisy, I just got done giving her a bath (she was starting to smell like cornflakes). I held up her pajamas and she got soooo excited, she did her happy bouncy tippytaps and jammed her head right through the neck hole. Since she’s so small, she gets cold very easily, so she’s almost always wearing a little sweater or PJs. She is currently asleep on my foot. Yep, Saint and Strawberry are still childhood friends that had an oops pregnancy. Saint proposed immediately, Strawberry said no, are you nuts? But he of course sticks around, and their friendship grows stronger, Strawberry begins to feel things besides her usual exasperation with him. Throughout the pregnancy, Saint keeps proposing, loudly and obnoxiously at first, but calmer and quieter over time, and Strawberry keeps saying no, but each time, she gives it a little more pause. One day, in the orchard, with the wind blowing softly, Saint proposes again- for the last time, he promises if she refuses, he’ll back off and never ask again. But he can’t help feeling that there’s something deeper between them, and that even though the future looks terrifying right now for both of them, he wants to be there with her, as the pups’ father, as Strawberry’s husband….because he loves her, and he has for a long time. He doesn’t have a ring, but his in on bended knee, dumb baseball cap in hand, looking so pitifully anxious and hopeful, and Strawberry feels strangely annoyed to realize she’s in love with this big ridiculous man. What the hell, she says. She’s been rational and selfless her entire life. Maybe she’s long overdue to make one bone-headed decision. It was a gamble, but it paid off. Saint made Strawberry feel so loved, and she misses him every day. (She did make him promise to get a vasectomy before they got married tho)

lopoddity

Yes, very much so. Strawberry has never been all that great at expressing affection (or any emotion, really), but after Saint died she had to stuff down her feelings so she could maintain the farm and raise her five grieving children. As a result, she became much more cold and curt, with little patience for touchy-feels nonsense. Skye was her mother’s little princess as a pup, but there’s a massive divide between them now, and it causes Skye a lot of pain. Skye sometimes feels her mother doesn’t like her very much, and that they have little in common. More than ANYTHING, Skye wants Strawberry to be proud of her. This is a shame, because Strawberry is of course enormously proud of her daughter and loves her so, so much, but she’s spent so many years repressing her vulnerable side that she fears if she were to begin speaking her emotions aloud, she wouldn’t be able to stop, and that she’d collapse into a weeping mess as decades of grief and regret spill out. It’s easier for Strawberry to believe that Skye is a tough girl that already knows Strawberry loves her, and thus doesn’t need Strawberry to say it. This is of course not true, and Skye resents her mother for it, so they argue a lot.

lopoddity

Ha! Y’all are tempting me to resurrect the guy

m0nk3y_m4n

What if he has a near death experience? Like the house catches on fire one day and he runs back in to save one of his kids, and at that time the house collapses? He ends up in the ICU for a long ass time, and the kid he saved (could be Skye) is harboring major survivor's guilt, convincing herself that she's the reason her dad could die. BUT he pulls through, because not even death could take Saint away from his family! (though, in exchange, death can have his arm)

Doglover502

Saint (showing flashcards of animals to his toddler pups): The duck says "quack". The cow says "moo". The pig says "you have the right to remain silent"

Bigsmile

Or a peg leg! Pirate Saint!

marsh_beast

Strawberry, at Saint’s funeral: I promised him I’d play one of our favorite songs. (Honky Tonk Badonkadonk blares on the speakers)

Bigsmile

Tibbs resents that! He's headbutted a cop or two in his time I bet

Doglover502

You are so right he probably did. Sorry Tibbs!

m0nk3y_m4n

I just love the idea of him losing an arm because then it would lead to this exact scenario: Strawberry - "Dammit, Saint; get over here and give me a hand!" Saint - *Yeets his prosthetic arm across the yard to where Strawberry is*

lopoddity

god i have finally found my PEOPLE💕

Marta Tarasiuk

As an offspring of a retired cop I can confirm Saint here giving solid advice here. Something I would add is to never sign ANYTHING. Cops can and will use this signature against you. Also, cops have no qualms about lying to you about how law works and what rights you have. Often they either want to avoid doing their job or need to find any suspect, guilty or not, because they're under pressure from higher ups.

lopoddity

Oh yes. Sometimes when I draw, I enjoy listening to police interviews. There are many of these videos on youtube, with some depicting high profile criminal interrogations. It can be quite satisfying to hear a suspected murderer get caught in a lie, or stressed to the point of confessing. But I have also noticed that these videos often handwave, or even make excuses for poor police practices. Police lie to suspects, they interrogate them til they're exhausted, they trick and mislead people out of requesting a lawyer, they bully and berate suspects. The manipulation is honestly kind of horrifying to watch. The audience has the privilege from watching in the future, when we know that the suspect has already been convicted. But the police in the video are working in the present, lying and deceiving people who sometimes turn out to be completely innocent. A polygraph test is junk science, not even admissible in court. But I've watched police use them on nervous suspects and tell them they've been CAUGHT they're going to PRISON unless they confess right NOW. How many people in the US are wrongfully convicted because of strategies like this? How many crimes go unsolved? Worse yet, police are frequently featured in children's media as friendly figures, but still maintain the same dubious practices. Take Judy Hopps for example, our cute and spunky bunny cop in the clumsy racism allegory that is Zootopia. As an enforcer of the law, she breaks the law a LOT. Throughout the movie she commits extortion, theft, and trespassing. She manipulates Nick so she can enter private property without a warrant, she utilizes excessive force and threats, she breaks into multiple locations, she routinely lies and deceives suspects, she....colludes with the literal mafia. But the movie handwaves all this, almost indicating that Judy is allowed to commit crimes in pursuit of the greater good. Nick, who commits felony tax evasion and business fraud early in the movie, later becomes a cop, and his crimes too seem to get handwaved away. Now obviously you wouldn't have a very exciting movie if it was just Judy reviewing paperwork and camera footage for 90 minutes, but still, one must ask- why do Judy's crimes not matter? The racist sheep lady is framed as evil, but the mafia boss is framed as Judy's friend and ally, even though he's implied to murder people. Why? Because he helps Judy, and friends of the police also get to act with impunity? (I know I'm picking on Zootopia a lot, personally I just think it's a dumb movie, even without the cop stuff).

MiyaLaFlorDorada

I love this dog, in some way he reminds me of one of my uncles (may he rest in peace), the craziest guy but the most decent (in his own weird way) of my mother's siblings and believe me, if you knew the family through of my mom's side, ufff that's a mess that no one wants to get into. This guy took care of his wife who was bedridden due to her severe illness since they were both in their 20s, he bathed her, fed her, gave her injections, basically he had to do everything for her, with love and patience. He could give you money no matter the amount in an emergency without charging you back, he didn't allow anyone to talk shit about his family, he always talked about how proud he was of his amazing sons and how lucky he was to have met his intelligent, loving and strict wife. Buuut he was also the type who sent his 6 to 10-year-old nephews/niece to buy various types of alcohol at his friend's store, fought with bare fists with merchants from the central market of his city because they got the weight of the fish wrong, stab an abusive neighbor who beat his pregnant wife and stood guard every time the bastard wanted to break the restraining order, broke the hand and brutally kicked the crotch of a co-worker who thought my uncle would help him escape when they discovered that he was a pedophile, my uncle turned him over to the police later and they didn't even ask the why of the injuries, just took him to the doctor. Because the laws in Chile are shit, the police know that that animal will surely have just a few years of sentence and a punch is the minimum punishment for a degenerate, "a child predator no matter man or woman deserves to have their hands broken" was my uncle motto. And the most crazy thing I remember was that is that his 18th birthday gift idea for his favorite young relatives was a visit to the stripper club or to the best prostitutes in the city 🤣 "Take protection and respect them, they are workers, no means no, and also be careful not to accept drugs, there are always creeps in those parts, take a knife and these special rings to defend yourself, especially you niece, a pretty lady like you can mistake for a lady of the night for some assholes, don't leave my side." We were red with shame and laughter in our respective birthdays, and we rejected the gift, he just smiled and asked us what we wanted, so my brother got an amplifier for his guitar and I got first-class art items. Of course he said that the offer was still on the table and that we should not go without knowing the place well, he would be the guide for our safety 😅. Jesucristo, that man was unhinged in the best ways I think? Oh also now that I think about it, what the hell is going on with the police in the USA?! 🤨 Que carajo! In Latino America it is normal for criminals to shoot at you and be violent, not the other way around. I mean every country here is different, some suffer from corruption in the police, government by drug traffickers, etc, but the rest is "our politicians are inept, the justice system is a joke, the laws are bad and the police have no power because the government took it away with their crappy new laws and they can't even touch a criminal, even to defend a victim." There is an internal joke in Latin America, it is sad but it is in our culture to be experts in black humor to cope with this mess of life, and it goes like this: A police officer sees a criminal with a gun threatening a victim for her purse, and he points the gun at the victim and the policeman tries to calm the situation so that no one gets hurt. He warns him three times to put the gun down. The criminal pays no attention and is defiant. The policeman thinks "What should I do? If I shoot the criminal I'm going to jail, if I don't do anything they'll fire me and the poor woman can get hurt, who made the laws in this fucking country?!" - end of joke. You would be surprised, once when passing by a march on Women's Day, I saw how a 15-year-old girl spit in the face of a female police officer, the reason, the girl was trying to sell drugs while she was stealing on the march, and while the police tried to be peaceful, the teenager was very very aggressive she even punch the police lady, because she knows that she can allege police brutality, to get away with murder. In the end, the same women from the march helped arrest the girl, after this same girls also bite and punch them while screaming a lot of curse words. And the brat called the women gender traitors for turning her in to the police. Later I found our that it is not the first time that they have arrested her, that she is part of a new dangerous yet very youn gang, they wait in the banks when the elderly are going to collect their insurance, they point a gun at pregnant women bellies while trying to steal their cars, they even began to go near rehabilitation sites for people with disabilities because they steal and sell the medicines, wheelchairs, crutches and even some prostheses at a good price, 😟 sadly people with disabilities are an easy target these days, heck they even steal from the homeless because some are sick and the public hospital give them pill, very expensive, that are also very well paid for too. This teens even proudly publish their crimes on social networks. I think you can see how mess up this crappy situation is right? Yep and surely even if the police can arrest the criminal, these guys know the laws backwards and forwards, they know that they will be released after a week and if they are minors they don't even have consequences, because they are minors. Even criminals have more rights that the citizens, today people are afraid to leave the house, like this little shits can sue you if you punch them in self-defense. But even so in USA the police is scary to me, just telling you that they once showed the chilean police a video of how USA police work and they were horrified, if our police did half of those things they would be in prison or out of force. It's terrifying when those who should be protecting you are as dangerous as any other criminal, maybe our problems are different due to countries and cultures, but it is sad to have to live in fear 😔.

D

I like how Saint’s eyes have literally never not been drawn in shadow

lopoddity

Shadowed eyes are one of my favorite character design tropes, going all the way back to my teenage obsession with Roronoa Zoro. I feel it makes it all the more striking when a character finally removes their hat. :3

Blizwolfthewolf

The more I see of Saint, the more I go "That's just my wife" 😂

PD19

finally wholesome father

lopoddity

Hey now, there's plenty of wholesome dads in FB! There's Saint, and Priscilla's dad, Calvin, and Savannah's dad, Tim. And only two out of those three dads are dead! >:D

Marta Tarasiuk

Oh, I forgot about polygraph tests. Those are not a thing in Poland. I mean, there are some really basic ones sold as a party game but that's all. So yeah, polygraph test is such a junk science that here it view as nothing but a toy.

Res Hound

As a fellow queer southerner, it makes me so goddamn happy every time we see this supportive country boy

Mars

if you've written a concept for it already, how did saint pass? was it due to long lasting health concerns or was it unexpected? also i love seeing any doodles of him with the family, it's like the calm before the storm :)

Angeldrawstoons

Why do I got a gut feeling that Saint sounds like Bud Gleeful from Gravity Falls
