on my last post I got a few requests for more Marnie & Snowball art, which reminded me to whip up a quick size reference. I’ve been accidentally drawing Marnie too big because for some reason I thought irl rabbits were bigger than they actually are. This fed into their relationship feeling kinda “off”, with them having no real obvious barrier to getting together beyond Marnie’s general nervousness. So I fixed it. They have a pretty drastic size difference, possibly the largest in the cast (bigger than the one between Dom and Tadeo, or Perry and Tibbs). Snowball is a giant bear of a dog that could probably palm Marnie’s head like a basketball if he wanted to (fortunately he does not). Marnie is a tiny, delicate, jumpy prey animal that must always be conscious of the fact she lives in a world with much larger animals that can potentially hurt her badly, even by accident.

Skye is there for scale, since she’s medium sized by the cast’s standards. A cute fact about her and Snowball is that they are both the youngest of the Pawberry pups (with Snow being born two minutes before Skye), and that they have the same middle name, either because Mama Strawberry thought it was cute, or because Saint was dead exhausted writing up the birth certificates

Snowball! I love him so much. I like the simplistic style on this piece :)

The Faerie Merchant

They’re adorable! I missed marnie sm she’s a favorite of mine

The Faerie Merchant

wait what about the size difference between penny and cake(?) i think I got their names right

lopoddity

Oh damn never mind, they win the most ridiculous size difference award

Angsty Ram

Ah!! They all look brilliant!! I hope you don’t mind me gushing here but this has really made me realise just how much I love the body proportions you do! I adore the variety, I find with a lot of art (heck primarily furry art) it is just one body proportion and like man, they are animals. Animals have crazy wide proportions that can make them so eye catching. I just love that you do lean into it ^^ (Also can’t explain why or how but these characters do look their ages and I love that too)

YAAASSSSSSS I've been doing to see more of Marnie and Snowball! Just because I love bunnies and chubby characters. These are WONDERFUL.

lopoddity

Thank you! I’ve been really frustrated lately that my job eats up so much of my time and energy because I have really wanted to practice my anatomy and poses. Body variety is one of my favorite things to draw, I’m so glad you’re enjoying it! :3

In a world where they're together, Marnie absolutely *boings* up to kiss Snowball on the cheek

PrincessMuffinArt

It’s like the scene in Wreck it ralph where felix jumps up to kiss Calhoun!

Millions of Bees

Love the art! Snowball looks so cuddly I just wanna hug him. Size differences are one of the things I often find myself pondering when thinking about the ins and outs of an anthropomorphic animal world. Stuff like how I feel like life’s gotta be more expensive when you’re a big species, an elephant needs a lot more food and space than a rat. Gotta be hard for things like elephants or rhinos to even find housing in some places.

As a proud bunny parent I would like to point out that bunnies come in different shapes and sizes. When I was a kid, my (now sadly departed) rabbit Homer actually got mistaken for a dog due to his size. And he wasn't even close to some really big rabbit breeds.

What a coincidence, I was actually just thinking about this. Furry ergonomics and economics! For example, in our world, a coffeehouse might sell small, medium, and large drinks, and people of all sizes will be satisfied. But in Fuzzbutts, a "large" coffee might look like bucket-sized to a bunny, while an elephant might consider it the size of a thumble. The solution to this seems like there should be extra-extra small and extra-extra jumbo sizes, but that introduces a bigger problem...price. An elephant's bucket of coffee is just gonna cost more than a bunny's thimble-worth. I thought perhaps large animals would have ID cards that permit them special discounts to keep their food/clothing/housing spending proportionate to smaller animals, as it's just unfair for an elephant to have to pay 8-10 times more for a cup of coffee than a bunny. But smaller animals would likely push back against this for being discriminatory, and businesses would fight it because they would lose what they see as their rightful income. A semi-solution would be having different coffee shops that respectively specialize in small, medium, and large animals, but this still has discrimination/accommodation issues (eg. what if an elephant cannot find a large-size pharmacy in time to get their medication?) and doesn't fix the price problem. If a large and small clothing store are both owned by the same conglomerate, they have no reason to charge the same prices for large and small clothes, not when large animal clothes require significantly more fabric. Perhaps the government would subsidize large animal food/clothes/housing to keep prices affordable, but would this mean large animals have to pay more in taxes? FB is set in a version of America, and America has a problem with individualism, our country doesn't really like doing things for its people out of the goodness of its heart. Perhaps the government would subsidize costs for large animals, and in exhange, target large animals more for military recruitment. Or simply offer large animals shittier versions of things- eg. sure, your clothing is now affordable, but the quality is inferior and you'll need to buy more when they wear out in two months. Eg. Your bag of chips is now afforablde, but food companies are allowed to sneak more air into the package so the big bag is only really about 30% of chips. It's all interesting to think about, but whatever the explanation, everybody gets the short end of the stick. :)

Sure, but Marnie is supposed to be a very small character. I think I've accidentally been drawing her dog sized because I have so many dog characters I kinda default every character to dog size. Snowball is a very big dog, and Marnie is a small bunny.

Marta Tarasiuk

So if she was a regular bunny, not an anthro, would she be of a perfect size to keep her on your lap and pet?

Ren

If Marnie and Snowball got together would they face similar discrimination that Perry and Tibbs went though? Or are domestic dogs seen as “less predatory” than wolves and wild dogs and thus don’t face the same discrimination as other predator/prey relationships might? Anyway these guys are super cute love these teachers. I can imagine their students trying to play matchmaker and making up the most outlandish excuses and situations to see them together because they haven’t learned hatred and discrimination yet. They just see their two favorite teachers and want them to be happy together

Dragonseeker

I love the simple style you use for the size ref things haha, it’s so cute

Toadboss Ida

Just came here to write the exact same thing but you was faster 😂.

Toadboss Ida

Maybe the big direrence isnt the quantity but the products? Maybe food is super cheap for a small animal compared to a bigger one but the fabric for clothes, furniture and so on are so small and delicate that they are harder/more expensive to produce so it upps the prices? Or small animals with small living space have some kind of packing fee bc it’s more expensive for the companies to make all those miniscule packings for groceries and stuff? I can really see how the economy probably allways would benefit the medium siced animals in that case? 🤔

RagingRiptide

Snowball looks so much like my Great Pyrenees and I am obsessed 🥰 such awesome dogs!

lopoddity

Yup! The kind of bunny that resembles a smoothie fluffy orb with ears

Yes. As we will learn, Marnie is a character that struggles to maintain her autonomy in a world that often infantilizes her. As a small bunny (and as a woman), she is seen as weak and helpless, so being in a relationship with a giant carnivore would be met with public alarm and concern. People would assume Snowball pressured her into the relationship and want to "rescue" her from it. Snowball would be perceived as a creep, a bully, and a monster preying on an innocent bunny. Few would believe that Marnie (a grown woman with wants and desires) is with Snow by choice, that she has a romantic (and even sexual! Gasp!) interest in him. So Snowball is pushed into second-guessing himself a lot and being made to feel ashamed of himself, and Marnie is frustrated to be seen as a hapless damsel in distress instead of a slightly shy adult woman that can and will peg a giant dog man.
