I’ve been putting it off for the exact same reasons. Well I guess I’m adding that to my To Watch list

Aubrey

I’m so glad you liked it! You’re always able to so effectively portray the personality of a character in just one picture. :) I definitely think getting a formal team on board helped to really streamline the plot and make it more compelling (that CAN be a downside of Vivziepop’s writing).

Robo87

I haven’t watched the latest one yet but I LOVE Helluva Boss, and I liked the pilot for Hazbin! Definitely on my list

Angeldrawstoons

I would give all my vital organs just to see you draw Angel Dust, Lop. (Great drawing of Velvet btw)

Callihan

YES!! She's so gorgeous!!!

Angsty Ram

That song is burrowed into my brain and I hope it never leaves

I recommend! My biggest complaint with the pilot was that the humor was very juvenile….and also that a lot of the characters struck me as annoying and obnoxious rather than funny and edgy. But the new series has really tightened up the writing! The story is stronger, the music and animation phenomenal, and the characters actually have personalities now instead of being walking dispensers of cusswords and middle school humor. It’s not without some small flaws, but it’s very, very fun. :3 A cartoon for adults that feels neither childish or pretentious, very rare!

Live, laugh, love Velvet 💅🏾🩷 for now. We’d like to know your takeaway on things since you’ve watched it. Love hearing my favorite artists’ opinions on any animated media. Design, plot, or otherwise. Did you like it, or why didn’t you? Favorite characters?

lopoddity

I shudder to think how unhinged I would’ve been about that song if I were a teenager. Remember how I drew my little pony horse fan fiction for like a decade? I would’ve been like that all over again, a deranged, hyper-indulgent tsunami of fan art, smushing Viviziepop’s little twink blorbos together and making them kiss Thank goodness I am Very Normal now! 😀

Fenn

Ok bet, I’m sold! The immature humor was my biggest gripe but I’m excited to hear they’ve polished it up!

What a beautiful drawing so much personally 💕 Hazbin Hotel is a gorgeous, musical delight, with flaws of course yet so fun show! I adore how "full of life" the characters feel, I don't know how to explain it since english isn't my first language, but it's like each one have their own flavor you know? Also the songs OMG! THE PASSION IN THE VOICES ♥️ I love every single one, but of course I have my favorites. Just like with the characters but still I enjoy everyone even the ones I love the design but I want to punch them in the face 😝 Which characters are your favorites? Songs?

MzHyde360

In her pilot, her design would NEVER have matched her VA and attitude. She's one of the few redesigns I actually like. (Not perfect, but an upgrade from her last one) And of course "Respectless" is my favorite song from the series so far

Imogen

yES YES YES YES the cultural RESET THAT HAPPENED AT HER SONG

lopoddity

Aw shucks, I was brief in the description box because I thought my opinion wouldn’t be wanted. XD Okay SO. I already said I didn’t care much for the pilot, and although I watch Helluva Boss, I’m not really a fan. I think the writing is frustratingly inconsistent and I don’t really care about Stolitz, so…yeah. I thought the new Hazbin show would be like Helluva, eye candy with a janky ass plot and WAY too much focus on shipping over substance. Also, Alastor and Angel Dust struck me as twink tumblr sexymen characters meant to be very popular with teens, which made me feel old because I didn’t find them appealing at alllll (Angel Dust was just annoying, Alastor’s design just doesn’t work for me, feels like a 2007 era deviantart OC) But! I was very pleasantly surprised with Hazbin Hotel. The obnoxious, Family Guy-ish humor style got tuned way down, instead of characters simply saying piss or fuck there’s a lot more character-based and situational jokes. I did NOT expect to enjoy Sir Pentious this much, I found him unfunny and obnoxious in the pilot, but Alex Brightman brings his A-game to the series. Alastor is more subdued now, still animated beautifully, but his presence now has a quieter menace and untrustiness to him that I really like. His pilot self felt like a Bill Cypher humanization, now he feels more original, more robust and intriguing, every time he’s on screen you’re wondering what he’s up to. His duet with Vox is probably my favorite song in the show so far! Speaking of Vox- him, Valentino, and Velvette are each animated and acted spectacularly, you literally can’t get enough of them. Angel Dust has surprising depth (though I’m still on the fence about him, his schtick gets old fast), and fucking HUSK. HUSK. I didn’t expect a Keith David gambling cat to give me brain rot, but there ya go Visually, the character designs have been streamlined quite a lot. Vaggie’s hair actually expresses her moth character motif now. The backgrounds have largely lost the saturated homogenous reds and gained more color variety. Vox in particular really pops with his electric blue color palette. The designers simplified the clutter on Husk and Angel’s designs, and Charlie and Nifty are absolutely adorable. I share the common complaint that Viv really leans into the same tall skinny body types for the characters- stylistically it works for now, though it does get repetitive. Angel Dust looks like Valentino who looks like Alastor who looks like Lucifer who looks like Vox. All I’m saying is, some variety would really spice things up. The background imps in Helluva Boss, for example, have some really cool varied designs, I wish it’d be allowed for the main characters. I also noticed, reluctantly, that Hazbin is doing the same thing Helluva Boss does when it comes to writing women. The women are there, sure, they have cool designs and they sing nice songs. But their characters don’t get explored beyond really shallow, cursory stuff. When Velvette showed up I thought oh great, another “rude bitch” character with no depth (Viviziepop kinda does this with every female character who isn’t Millie, Charlie, or Octavia). Like….Stella, Glitz, Glam, Verosika, Loona, Vaggie somewhat…they’re flat. They’re characterized as rude, arrogant, and mean, but the writers don’t dig into who they are beyond that, which makes them all feel flat. Charlie is a sweet adorkable Disney princess who wants to save sinners….but what else? WHY does she want to save her people so badly, why is she so different from everyone else in Hell? Vaggie wants to protect Charlie. Okay, but what else? Nifty says oh-so-crazy things, but who IS she beyond that? Four episodes in and the show’s already started getting at the meat of characters like Angel Dust and Husk and Alastor and Vox. Charlie doesn’t even feel like the main character most of the time, to be honest. This was also my main complaint with Helluva Boss. Sometimes it feels like the women don’t get as much screen time as depth because they’re not twinky men that can get shipped together. And that’s fine I guess, Viviziepop is allowed to focus on the dudes if she wants, but it still feels disappointing. :/ Charlie and Vaggie are apparently in a whole ass relationship, but beyond them calling each other babe or hon, it wouldn’t be hard to watch the show and completely miss that they’re dating. Fortunately the first season isn’t over, so I’m hoping the girls get more spotlight. >:3 The music fucks HARD and the visuals are pure candy. I love how aggressively queer the show is! A lot of stories with queer characters can get kinda…boring, tbh. I get the feeling lots of writers get nervous to make their gays anything but happy and wholesome (or they just die tragically at the end of the story). So it’s very refreshing to get queer characters that are goofy and gross and obnoxious and just FUN. I think that’s Viviziepop’s greatest strength. Even when the writing is inconsistent or the jokes don’t quite land, her stories are always just plain fun. It takes everything we were told “should” be cringeworthy (edgy character designs, big dramatic musical numbers, in-your-face queerness) and CELEBRATES all of it, and at the end of the day I respect the heck out of her for it.

Harmony

I love this, Velvet is fantastic

lopoddity

My fav character is probably a hard tie between Vox and Velvette. Vox has more personality and an amazing VA, but Velvette came out of the screen and punched me in the face with her BRAAAAZEN DISPLAAYYY🎶. I’m gay. I may never recover. Close third is Husk, I’m just a sucker for Keith David, and he ended up being waaaay more endearing that I ever woulda guessed

lopoddity

I would make sure you make it to the second episode. The first episode is kinda eh, but that’s true of most shows. It REALLY picks up in episode 2.

lopoddity

“I’M THE BACKBONE OF THE VEES!” almost snapped MY backbone, holy fuck

Angsty Ram

Yes, very normal 👀 And I am very thankful it has come now rather than earlier cause it would have defined my personality for ages

lopoddity

Goddddd. Same. No way I would've have made up Hazbin OCs and run a ridiculously convoluted askblog about em that would span years and get contradicted by canon every other week

Angsty Ram

Shipping characters who hadn’t even had any screen time together, ocs with canon characters, ‘ those’ videos with most likely owl city in the background. I would have been insufferable if I ever did anything like that

Tibbles Yorkie789

Im already so inlove with Hazbin, but hypothetically, if someone doodled you fanart. Where would one send it to you?

lopoddity

No you wouldn’t. ;3 Shipping and self-inserts and askblogs and amvs are fun! Fandom is a labor of love and I hate that the idea of being “cringe” holds people back. I was joking when I said I was “Very Normal”, I’m not normal at all! I’m a little sheepish about my MLP days but I’m ultimately proud, and I had SO much fun. I’m genuinely happy for the people who’re gonna go nuts for Hazbin.

lopoddity

You can post it to social media and send me the link. :3

RagingRiptide

Habzin is definitely not my cup of tea tbh, but I so LOVE Velvettes design so MUCH. Her introduction and song gave me literal chills. this was a super fun treat!! :)

Angsty Ram

Oh I know lol I meant insufferable in the best way possible. Genuinely having fun and not caring what others thought. I fail to see cringe as in insult anymore, more of a ‘you are having fun and I don’t like it’ A see my old scene kid self that squeak at her favourite technicolored ponies and I still love that funky little dude. Cause I am still that funky little dude just with more interests, less energy and more back pain… and I a pay check to spend on said special interests ( I am collecting all those Hazbin cards, they are very pretty :3c )

Melody Williamson

My thoughts so far on the show is I really like the art style and the lore but ya the humor isn't very good

lopoddity

OH SHIT THAT’S GORGEOUS!! You made my problematic political pup so adorkable!

lopoddity

I like the art style and I think the humor is okay, it’s the lore I actually don’t care much about XD. I thought Helluva Boss had a cooler premise with a group of imp assassins (even if the show dropped this to focus on angst and shipping). In Hazbin, I reeeeeally don’t care about the heaven stuff or the purges or redeeming sinners. Would’ve been totally fine with a slice of life situational comedy about a bunch of gay whackos in hell.

nighthawk0913

I n e e d to know how you draw hair. It's the best!

Res Hound

Hard agree. I miss heaven being portrayed as like, sweet but super judgey.

lopoddity

Yeah, thata was cute when they did it in Helluva Boss. The first episode of Hazbin introduces us to Adam the angel, who you think would be maybe really santimonious or kind or stern or....idk, something. But instead he's really rude and crude and edgy, just like 90% of the other characters, except he's also not funny or particularly interesting. He establishes a ticking clock for Charlie, in six months there will be another purge. Man I wish I cared. How do you make a mass culling of people boring? Charlie asks why the purges happen, Adam sings a song that amounts to "idk, they just do, so suck it up". Adam and the other angels/cherubs make heaven seem like a place that kinda sucks, so why should Charlie even be motivated to redeem people at this point? I actually think the concept of a rehabilitation program for irredeemable sinners is pretty interesting, the show just kinda drops the ball making it make sense. A ticking doom countdown is unnecessary, I'd prefer if the focus was more on whether or not redemption is even POSSIBLE for sinners, or even desired (because again, heaven kinda sucks).

Bigsmile

Just listened to Loser....... Keith David needs to sing in more roles

Aery's Universes

YAAAAAAS! Hazbin truly broke my expectations in the best way, and Velvet is such a fun character! I really hope we get more Velvet songs, maybe a full V's one? That'd be fun owo
