Hey Artnerds!

What artsy things have you worked on this week?

I've been working on a couple larger commissions- they're coming along so well, I really wish I could share them with yall, but I promised the customer I would wait. I'll be able to share the details with you guys soonish though- and I can't wait! They are gorgeous, and I'm so pleased with how they're coming along!

I appreciate everyone who joined me for last week's first stream back! Now that my doctors' appointments have settled down somewhat, I hope to host more streams in the future.

What I'm working on:

M Graham's Review:

I'm comparing M Graham's gouache to their watercolor, and perhaps updating my initial M Grahams review with a fieldtest! This is in progress, still needs a fieldtest, so it'll have to wait until those commissions are done!

Lil Artist series:

Color Pencil:

Ceramic Palettes

POSCA marker

Eventually I'll get around to cleaning up these rough sketches, but it's nice to have something I can noodle around with on my smaller tablet.

Social Media Mayhem

The terminally online may have heard about Meta's renewed efforts to scrap our art and words to feed Llama, their generative AI. This includes Facebook and Instagram (and probably Threads), and many artists are a distraught about this announcement. The new social portfolio site Cara looks promising but is still glitchy. I'm hoping it will take the place of Artstation, and a few art devs on Threads have already chimed in that a site like this would be PERFECT for sourcing artists. I'm picking at mine slowly, but trying to give the dev team time to patch holes and fix problems.

A lot of artists are talking about moving away from Instagram, or have already done so due to META scraping their art. I don't necessarily plan on deleting my Instagram, but I probably won't share static art there anymore, focusing instead on sharing Reels, as those are less appealing to scrape.

The discourse regarding Cara is already heated on Threads (I'm kinda not surprised to be honest, people are worn out from all the social media hopping they've done in the past couple years), but I'm hopeful that Cara can serve as a portfolio site and artist hub for those who wish to use it.

Landscapes

Tomorrow I'm teaching a class on drawing landscapes, weather permitting. About a month ago, while in the countryside, I recorded some live landscape drawing footage, and yesterday, I recorded an Atmospheric Perspective + Landscape Drawing from Reference refresher. I need to get a little more footage to stitch it into a tutorial for Youtube, but I thought yall might be interested, particularly the folks who enjoyed my sketchbook tutorial awhile back.
