Made in China, Designed in the USA, so why does Color have a U?

Compare against the Hannah MP Artistro Collab

Compare against Kuretake Gansai Tambi, Hannah MP x Artistro collab, Madisi watercolors

Colors in this Set:

Swatching on their paper:

Their paper is pretty awful.

These feel kinda gummy, there is some kind of resistance, it's hard to pick up color- these may have dried out too long.

Right now I"m seeing kinda weak coloration.

I think these need time to soak up moisture

Swatching on blick:

Soaking these helped quite a bit

I'm thinking these are dye based

The color order for these is really strange. Like i feel like Ult Blue should've been after the cool blues, then brown, then black. Might have to rearrange these if I decide to do a field test

Color Mixing:

Atomic:

2ndary mixes seem kinda milky?

Really hard to get clean saturated secondary mixes

Optical:

Really patchy, scaly layering

Wet into Wet Test:

These handle kinda strangely. They really caked up on the brush

These seem to take a long time to dry, and kinda dissolve into a mush, I'm not seeing any really strange scaling, haloing or speckling though

Colorblock online:

Swatch Offs:

Colorblock again: These are honestly pretty awful.

Kuretake Gansai Tambi:

These reactivate so much quicker- I didn't even preactivate them.

This is a 36 color set, so I apologize that I ran out of room for good swatches, but hopefully you can see that the Kuretake watercolors are more saturated.

Hannah MPx Artistro

Quick to activate, fairly saturated, these are dye based

Honestly, if you want a dye based pan watercolor, these rate higher in my opinion thna the Colourblock watercolors.

Madisi

These activate quickly and are very saturated

These are probably dye based also, but they're much nicer than the ColourBlock watercolors

So generally, I would recommend:

Don't buy the Colourblock, at all.

If you want a dye-based watercolor that activates immediately, the Artistro Hannah MP Collab (they offer other products, this is the one I've tried), comes in a nice wooden box as well, but may be on the pricey side

The Madisi watercolors are fine, but not as good as Meiliang Pigments

If you want large pans with immediate color that are tried and tested, I'd say go with Kuretake Gansai Tambi, they're like always on sale somewhere, and you can find them almost anywhere, not just Amazon.

Pros and Cons:

Pros:

The wooden box is neat

Cons:

Chalky

Weak activation

Weak color

Poor color mixing

Dye Based

The Verdict:

You can very safely skip this set. I do not plan on fieldtesting these, as they're pretty awful, and I have multiple large pan gansai style paints that handle better
