Marker fans, have we found our Copic Killer?  Has the throne been stolen by a new contender?  OLO alcohol markers make big promises- no wick inside the marker means they hold more ink, lots of customization in your personal set of markers, the ability to mix and match between brushes and chisels- but are these markers everything promised, or do they have some serious shortcomings that us marker aficionados just can't ignore?

It was a rush job, but I managed to Unbox and Swatch the new OLO alcohol markers the day they arrived and have been hustling to get them edited and uploaded for Tuesday's update!  I want to get this review out ASAP in case we can win over some new viewers, so you have a short window to catch it early access. When a video is Scheduled, Youtube makes it inaccessible to viewers with an access link, but fear not, this review goes live Tuesday!

The cardboard boxes the markers came in were thin and flimsy- cheap boxes. I appreciate that there wasn't a lot of plastic waste, but I do think OLO could up their game a little. The laser-cut wood holder and sketchbook were nice inclusions, and they also included some plastic handles, but a Zero blender would've been helpful and appreciated. The Markers: 32 Color set 128 Colors total 128, 64, 32, 16 sets and open stock markers available More options now than there were when I ordered my set With how I ordered the markers, I basically got two brush tips, so I basically have 2x of the same color for all my colors. An option to split sets would've been neat, but admittedly more work on OLO's part. The screw is flimsy and prone to popping out of place Nothing particularly standout or 'expensive' feeling about these markers, visually very similar to Sketchmarkers These are refilled using a cartridge system that's basically a marker half minus the brush/chisel and cap- a lot of plastic waste IMO. I would prefer a bottled ink system. The screening on some of the markers is starting to rub off- gives off an impression of being cheap Swatching on Their Swatch Card Many of these came from the factory screwed together all funky, so i have to take the time to fix them. The color system takes some getting used to I feel like this set has some big gaps in the color selection that may make using this set on it's own challenging Swatching on My Paper Bleedy on thirstier papers The screw is RIGHT at a pressure point, so if you bear down to flex the nib, the screw is going to pop out of place a bit strange, strong petroleum smell OLO Paper Much less bleedy on their paper Rubbing Alcohol had a good strong response, Copic made it seem more violet, Prismacolor lightened it a bit, Blick didn't do much. These might not play so well with other alcohol markers? Rainbow Road When blended, gets kinda grainy on the Mixed Media paper On their paper: Doesn't really blend out at all? Blending Ball: When coloring larger areas they don't keep up super well. On thirstier papers, these are similar in terms of handling and how the ink reacts to cheaper markers like Artify and Ohuhu. Difficult to get smooth transitions Really just don't blend out as well as I'd hoped- maybe it's the color selection in this set? Verdict: I really can't recommend these markers as they are. If you're new to markers, these are really expensive without delivering that much of an improvement on existing marker technology. If you're used to markers, you've probably already got better markers. I thought these might dethrone the Blick Studio Brush Markers as my Copic-Killer, but Nah, Blick Studio Brush is still pretty awesome.
