Earning My Comics Merit Badge, OLO Markers- Patreon Newsletter August 15th (Patreon)

Hey Artnerds!
Have You Seen My Free Drawing Class?
Any feedback for me on the Manga Madness Notion.so class? I'm strongly considering making classes out of some of my other tutorial sets and would love to hear your thoughts! Personally, I really like the ability to collate so many different sources of information- the ability to mix presentations, printables, text, and even video makes it feel much more like a class!saving,
Livestreams are Coming Back!
My mom finished up the painting she was doing on the house, so that frees up about 5 evenings per week. While I enjoyed being able to visit with my mom so often, I also appreciate the ability to work in the evenings, do more voice recording, and resume LIVESTREAMS!!
It seems like Fridays and Saturdays are prime time for D&D, so if there's a week night or even Sunday night that works better for yall, please sound off in the comments (or on Discord)! I was sorta thinking next Friday (if that works well) we'd do the Watercolor Crash Course Q&A stream, I'd swatch some watercolors (I've been save them) and, time permitting, I'd try to paint along with one of those wonderfully awful Michaels watercolor kits.
Girl Scouts- Comic Artist Merit Badge
On Saturday, I drove to Galvez to help several Cadette troops earn their Comic Artist Merit Badge. I've probably said this a dozen times since I agreed to teach them the basics of making a minicomic, but this was DEFINITELY not in the handbook when I was a Girl Scout, and even if it had been, my troop would never have been cool enough to make comics. I really enjoyed getting to hang out with the girls, show them my art (both old and new), answering their How To Draw questions, showing them how to make a minicomic, and providing some inspiration and encouragement.
The OLO Marker Review
On Saturday, my OLO markers arrived, and I hustled to get them reviewed and out for my Tuesday Youtube update. I think for once, the mail gods smiled at me because I got my preorder a little bit ahead of many of the others, although not ahead of the people OLO sent markers out to. Often I have the opposite luck, getting my order a week after everyone else and losing my chance at getting a scoop.
It bears repeating that I use your support here on Patreon to purchase products like the OLO markers, so these sort of expensive reviews are only possible thanks to yall and your generosity. That is particularly important with the OLO review, because it removes the chance of bias (its not a sponsored post, I don't HAVE to say positive things), and it allows me to focus my loyalty on you guys and creating a review that would be most beneficial to yall.
This is particularly relevant because the comments section on that video are pretty polarized. While the majority of people commenting are quite vocal in their support, there are a number of people who feel like I'm being too negative, don't know how to use alcohol markers, have a bone to pick with OLO, or am unfair in my assessment. While they're entitled to their opinions of OLO markers and my content, I am proud that I went into the review with an open mind (I was very excited about the markers), and that all opinions and experiences are genuinely rooted in my experience as an art supply reviewer. I guess what I find surprising is how personally some people take my negative reviews- like I've personally attacked them. That's never my intention, but I do understand that many people identify with brands, and may have a difficult time hearing negative things said about a product.
Given that the OLO marker review is performing so well on Youtube, I'm very tempted to do a written version for Patreon- is that something yall would like? Realistically, it would just be a fleshed-out version of my shownotes with photos.
Sadly, Patreon is not searchable with Google, so it's not like it'd bring in new readers Googling OLO markers, but it might be a bit more accessible for people who find I talk too fast, or prefer to read their reviews (like me!). I have mixed feelings about the review- since I was in such a hurry to get it out there before everyone else released theirs, it's longer than I would have liked, but it's also pretty thorough, and I also released a 30 Second Art Supply Review because I'm all or nothing- you either get the crazy long version or the terribly condensed version. Moderation is not in my vocabulary.
Works in Progress
These little watercolor cookies are so I can hopefully finish up my Supergranulation reviews- they're so I can backtrack a bit and do tests for the Daniel Smith and Van Gogh Dusk colors. I say this, but I am sore tempted to order the Mairtini Supergranulating watercolors off AliExpress and do one more round. What do yall think? Do you think, for completionist's sake, I need to take a look at the Mairtini supergranulating colors before I can do a Supergran Showdown?
I recently wrapped up this watercolor illustration- you might recognize it as a revamp of a Lilliputian Living- 2019 I believe?
