I think the Rock represents a partner who doesn't react, who seems not to exist, who is just there, who gives nothing in return. The cactus represents a sour, toxic relationship that hurts whenever the partner tries to get close.

They actually hadn’t done the music video by the time they were on the Graham Norton show! Taylor said on her Instagram that Domhnall’s offhand comment about hoping to get into a music video inspired her. A week later she had emailed him a script and then she got everyone else involved!!

She posted on instagram that the idea for the video came to her on that graham Norton show when he said he wanted to be in a music video and she was able to get everyone from that appearance to be in the music video. There are also eras tour dancers and singers in it.

Domhall sprays the opalite on the cactus while Taylor sprays it on herself. The ad in the beginning says it turns “crappiness into happiness” so she thought *she* was the problem 🥺 it was easier for the man to see the issue bc the cactus was hurting him every second, but for the woman how could something that does nothing be the problem, so she chose to fix herself rather than the rock. Maybe also tying into Anti Hero and Taylor for real feeling like she is the problem.

There is so many little metaphors and symbolisms tying to previous albums like Taylor tying the red string with the rock aka invisble string, the rock toy box saying my best friend and children's swings-> TTPD, saving a seat for the rock -> Lover. Every shot has so many layers to it. closing herself off to new human connections at the bar because she has a “rock” to take care of, even though it can’t be bothered with receiving her care, let alone reciprocating it. a female artist performing with her guitar, keeping her company through it all. But instantly being friends with the photographer when she is finally with the right person.

I’ll write more later when I have more time, but for now: 1. Her spraying herself. 😭😭😭😭 2. They filmed this in December so she only got the idea while on the Graham Norton Show. I love how she had them ALL in it. 3. Her Eras dancers are in it, just like in the Ophelia video!!! When you learn about them, you’ll recognize them right away. 4. I love that you realized it was an 80’s aesthetic! I’ve seen so many people say 90’s and I’m like no that’s 80’s lol.

Ok, I just noticed something- everyone else is spraying the objects, “the trash,” and turning them into “paradise” and happiness. However, Taylor doesn’t spray her object, she sprays herself. This could mean she views herself as the problem in the relationship. Even though it’s clear in the video, she is giving everything in the relationship while the rock literally gives nothing. The reason for needing the Nope-olite spray is because those who tried to change their partner- the trash object- didn’t get their happiness. Because you can’t change someone else. Taylor’s relationship works because she changed herself, while trash remains trash.

So this might be reaching but I wonder if the yellow wallpaper in her living room is a reference to "The Yellow Wallpaper". It's a short story where the woman was having postpartum mental health issues and being gaslit by her husband who just calls her hysterical and doesn't care at all and he locks her in her room she slowly goes insane from him holding her captive instead of getting her help. It overall was commenting on how our society treats women's mental health but also specifically about psychological abuse in relationships.

My favorite Easter egg: Taylor’s bed frame in the video is the same bed frame that the little girl in the poltergeist had. It’s a clever way to reference the “I thought my house was haunted, I used to live with ghosts” line. Also, they weren’t keeping the secret on the show, as she got the idea in that very moment!

I read a post that said all the Taylor’s Versions are in the paper thingy that she’s controlling with her hands and doing it to the rock scene: - the four Taylor’s versions she released she is wearing; the two she hasn’t are elsewhere in the room - reputation is represented by the pens making a VI for her 6th album. I also think this is a hint we will get three of the 15 original tracks (remember “Full transparency: I haven’t even re-recorded a quarter of it”; a quarter of 15 is 3.75, so less than a quarter would be 3) and then vault tracks - I think Debut is on the shelf because it is done “I’ve already completely re-recorded my entire debut album”) - I don’t know if there is a clue to the order here—is Debut farther away because it will come later? Is the rep egg with pens and on blank paper because she’s still working on it? I think debut for her 20th is perfect, idk on timing beyond that
