Repeating my comment from the ep 3 premiere post here 😇 I just wanted to point out one thing between Scott/Kip and Shane/Ilya to keep in mind going forward, since a lot of reactors try to make one to one comparisons between them, which just doesn’t work and makes them frustrated at Shane/Ilya. Scott is a veteran player much closer to retiring. He has had time to become emotionally mature, and his boyfriend is completely outside of the hockey world. If he were to come out, the public would be a little less hostile because Kip is not a celebrity. Shane and Ilya are much younger and still have so much maturing to do. The situation if they ever came out would be MUCH harder, first of all because of the implications with Ilya and Russia, but then also because they are the two top players in the league. If their relationship was known, people could question their entire careers and accomplishments- did they ever throw ganes for each other? Do the play worse against each other? It would be a HUGE issue for their careers, which Scott would not have to deal with. Just wanted to reinforce the difference in situations between couples, since many reactors compare Scott/Kip to Shane/Ilya with frustration, not realizing how much harder the latter have it. Give Shane and Ilya a little grace ❤️❤️

there are so many reasons for why scott and kip's dynamic is so different from shane and ilya's! first, as you mentioned, scott and kip are much older and experienced, which means they had a lot more time and and experience to learn how to navigate their emotions and cope and communicate second, their age also directly affects their comfortableness around their sexuality. ilya might be really comfortable and secure in his, but shane definitely struggles with his sexuality in the book and has some ideas in his head that he needs to work through. third, scott and kip don't have any culture differences to work through. any culture difference will create obstacles in a relationship but it's especially huge because russia and the us have such wildly different cultures fourth, their upbringings are also so wildly different. shane comes from a loving, supportive family that's always been there for him. he knows exactly how to love, and showing care for people comes easier to him (he's on the spectrum so obviously he's not perfect at it either but he's definitely more comfortable compared to ilya, and it's definitely thanks to his parents) ilya on the other hand, seems to have never received any love or affection from neither his dad or brother. he's always treated with extreme distance and coldness from his dad who always expresses disappointment for him (even right after he got drafted #1 and someone was congratulating him, he was calling ilya lazy, and then proceeded to tell him to just be quiet and listen. this also happens in ep 2, before he comes downstairs to svetlana and sasha, his father is talking badly about him with someone right in front of him and ilya just has to listen and nod and take it), and he's treated with insults and aggressiveness by his brother. he has only one friend and shane, that's his entire support system. which doesn't even count because at this point in the show ilya doesn't even rely on or open up to either of them for support so he's truly alone and doesn't know how to not have walls with that horrible brother and father, he's had them for way too long. neither scott or kip have this problem. fifth, the media has been pushing the narrative that they're rivals that hate each other since their rookie season and even though it's not a big deal to any of us as viewer of the show, in the hockey world people take that stuff extremely seriously. if their relationship got out not only could they obviously be greeted with tons of homophobia, but also the fans of the hockey teams and their teammates could feel betrayed and dissect every game that they played against each other. again, scott and kip don't have this problem sixth, the homophobia they could both face from the public and their teammates. obviously, this is a problem for scott too but i think it's extra hard for shane and ilya since in their case it's both of them that have to be scared about that, and scott is also older so it's different if his career was over vs shane and ilyas career was over since they're still so young and in their prime. and also ilya is from russia so his situation is way more dangerous than anything scott would face seventh, neither shane or ilya have any support system when it comes to their relationship. yes shane has his parents, but they don't know he's gay so he never talks about anything that happens in that relationship and both of them are completely alone in trying to figure it out cause there's no one they could talk to about it

i love that you loved this ep. when many people hate it bc its not shane and ilya. im a lesbian (out and proud) but i’ve been in a secret/closeted relationship like this so i truly understand kip and his decision to leave, in the books you get to know more of kip’s story (he has a lovely mom there, don’t know why shes not in the show) and it made me resent scott a little bit jajajajaaja but in the end you love them all! even tough i love hollanov, scott and kip have a huge place in my heart and made me heal a part of my story❤️‍🩹 pd: if you love the shows like this that kind pf show every characters story like you said in the wire you would really like skam (Norway), its a group of friends and each seasn focuses on each character but still show the group dynamic!

Elena is the standard when it comes to a best friend. Kip’s dad is the standard when it comes to a father. And that’s that. ❤️ I really hope Jacob is able to make a Skip (Scott & Kip) spinoff happen in the near future. I can’t get enough of François and Robbie's chemistry! What a joy it is that we all get to watch this incredible series together and feel happy, heartbroken, and horny all within an hour. Not having read the books, your immediate love of Skip and frustration with Hollanov (Shane & Ilya) are completely valid. They are in VERY different circumstances, and I’m glad you recognize that and are willing to be patient with them. But if you’re crying this much now, I’m preemptively sending you my thoughts and prayers for episodes 5 and 6. 😭🤣 As for episode four, Danny, I think you'll need wine AND to pour yourself a glass of milk. 😉 Most importantly... can you believe I went this whole comment without thirsting over you?? Your reaction to this episode really hit me in a way I didn’t expect. It made me emotional, not just because of the show, but because of everything it brought back for me. I grew up in a very homophobic environment/ country. When I was 14, my parents found out about my sexuality after discovering someone I had fallen in love with. Instead of support, they sent me to conversion therapy. I had to sit there being told that something fundamental about me was wrong, something that needed to be “fixed.” At the same time, I had to listen to constant homophobic comments from people around me, even from friends who had no idea they were talking about me. It was isolating and painful in a way that’s hard to fully explain. I’ve spent most of my life surrounded by bigotry disguised as “love” or religion. So seeing someone like you, someone who is open, empathetic, and unafraid to feel, genuinely gives me hope. It reminds me that there are people out there who choose kindness, who choose to understand instead of judge. Thank you for being that person. It means more than you probably realize. Also, HUGE shout out to your mom, she raised you well!!!

Congratulations on your new home! You are the most insightful reviewer I have seen, and I have seen many! I have one critique... I already cry every time I watch this show, and seeing how it affects makes me SOB 😭. You may have noticed how dark it gets as the episode progresses, as Kip is pulled further back into the closet. The gift-in-the-closet scene is almost entirely in darkness. Kip is lit primarily by his phone. The tux in the closet, by the way, is probably a designer tux and can cost from $3,000.00 to $8,000. For someone in Kip's financial position, this must make him uncomfortable about accepting this "love bomb". Thank you for doing this and for being so authentic. P.S. It doesn't hurt that you are gorgeous...just saying...One more thing, if Episode 3 has hit this hard, you may need oxygen for Episode 5!

For me, Scott and Kip have a more.. real relationship (if that makes sense). And this episode made me keep watching the rest of the season. The love and affection they have for each other is goals to me. I can only dream of it!

One detail I really love about this episode is the way Scott covers the socks Kip gave him at the end. It feels like a quiet but powerful metaphor. He uses grey (dead colourless) socks to hide the smothie socks (colourfull, full of love and gifted by the love of his life). He still wears the socks that Kip gave him (representing his identity as a gay man) but ultimately chooses to hide them with lifeless socks (representing that he is not ready to show his identity to the real world) Also, the Kip and Scott scenes start super colourfull and in big spaces, but as time progresses the scenes get darker and darker (just compare their first meating in the smothie shop and their last in scot's house after the event) The space gets smaller and the scenes loose their colour.

Not a spoiler- The book series this show is based on is called Game Changers. Book 1 of the book series is Scott and Kip's story, also titled Game Changer. Ilya and Shane is book 2, titled Heated Rivalry. The show essentially starts us out in Book 2 but they've inserted Kip and Scott's story into the show

during a conversation with Elena at the bar when she asked him what his dad thinks kip said "he probably thinks im fucking some married man" so i think it's implied in that moment that he knows about Kip's sexuality, and due to how obvious that kip is hiding something Kip is speculating that his dad probably thinks kip's secret is that kip's lover is a married man and that's why kip is hiding him from the dad
