I’m not sure if you know but he also has a documentary out on Netflix as well. It’s a good watch and also helps you understand his family dynamic and his past more. It put a lot of his music into perspective for me.

Kayleigh

Yay! Can’t wait to watch

Amazing reaction Danny!! I will say you did forget the song “lighthouse” from the 4 extra songs but still a very deep and open reaction! ♥️

Wanna help you with some, but also dont take my word for it :)) I hope this helps a little bit: Staying Still: Yes, some of us have heard the song. He had sung it on a concert one time (Busyhead Project and Red Sox Foundation benefit concert). It was anticipated and people were demanding it. Eventually, he leaked it for TGD, but then people noticed that it wasn’t in the original album. So the deluxe came out with it, hence why on Instagram he was like "Yes, Staying Still is in it" Willing and Able: Verse 1 is Noah’s POV, Verse 2 is the other side’s POV (some people said it’s about his siblings) → if you re read the 1st verse: “I stole a beer, drove home, there was only one left” and the 2nd verse saying “Go ahead, take the last of the drinks, the world belongs to you.” I understand it as wanting to have that old and nostalgic sibling connection when he comes back home, as long as it is with them he doesn’t mind fighting about little things. That's why "Oh, I wish you could know me. And I wish I could know you much more sometimes" hits really hard. Dashboard: You actually got that bang on…. It’s about someone who keeps running from their problems instead of actually changing. It could be from his family’s perspective, but I heard some people reviewing that Noah Kahan is highly reflective on this album, sometimes using the subject “you/your/yours” to explain himself. So as if he’s writing a song about himself. This could also be him talking about someone else, someone else talking about him or him talking about himself. 23: Noah said it’s about missing someone who’s changed, especially because of struggles like addiction. They want the old version of them back, but not who they’ve become now. It shows the pain of holding onto good memories while feeling hurt by the present. Overall, it’s about loving someone who’s still alive but feels like a different person. He says it wasn’t about a brother in his life, but more about the siblings of the people that he knows. Hurts to hear what you said after listening to this one, you’re strong Danny! Porch Light: I knew this one hits close to home for you… You caught on to that so quickly… brought tears to my eyes too :,) Deny Deny Deny: I couldn’t tell u who this is about, he isn't open about who this is about either as mentioned in Genius. Headed North: No commentttt, it’s genuinely so raw and I love ittt! The rest is coming!!! :))

Always a great reaction! I feel what you said about talking about your family and how they may feel with you saying these things, but every time you open up, it just makes me admire you more. You are a really great guy, people who have you in their lives are lucky, so don't let anything stop you from telling your story. I would 100% like to have you as a friend. Noah is one of my favorite artists, his writing is fantastic, I'm someone who moved away from my hometown so I think I relate so much of his music when I'm feeling homesick. See you in the next reaction, sending you love!

My gosh, I'm so happy that my comment helped, like you in ab empath, I feel a lot deeper than a lot of people around me and I guess we look deeper than surface level at things and their meaning. Another masterpiece. Thank you for being vulnerable once again, I feel like I relate to you so much. You know, there are so many artists who have been warped by society standards, who write about you know, not giving a care in the world about others opinions, about how we should always be strong and push forward ect. When did it become the norm to stop expressing emotion, to lock it down and push past it, to not stop and just soak in what's around you and just feel, to be permanently busy and on the go. If we weren't meant to feel or express our emotions, we wouldn't naturally have them. We're made to feel it all and express it all, suppressing it causes us to work against ourselves. It's so nice to see someone who's just completely open and in touch with his feelings, to not be scared to tell it how it is and how the majority of us feel day to day, from many viewpoints across his life and those around him. To just sit, turn those feelings into music that will help heal so many of us that maybe feel alone in what we feel. To do it in a way that hits you in the feels but without it being a depressive sound is a quality I've not seen with anyone else. In life we want the best for the people coming after us don't we? Like you with your niece, you want better for her than you had for yourself and you work hard to do that for everyone around you. I need a cuppa tea after this, beautiful album.

willing and able always makes me think of my estranged older brother ❤️‍🩹 oh how beautifully it hurts

Our brothers sound like they could be the same people. Sending love.

Was anticipating this reaction from the moment I listened to it for the first time myself. You are easily the best reaction channel out there, and I adore how honest you are with yourself and others. A lot of people react to music, but frequently I see that they don’t go as deep into the meaning or the context as much as you do, so you are a rare treat. Noah’s one of my nearest and dearest artists, and I’m so happy that you did him justice. Keep being amazing 💛

As the daughter and niece to addicts, I feel compelled to say a few things. I was raised by my father, but was very close to my Aunt on my mother’s side. She was basically my mother when my mother was off being an addict during my childhood. My Aunt ended up becoming severely addicted to cocaine, from her husband introducing it to her. He married her when she was only 18, he was a 35 year old doctor. My mom’s family was extremely wealthy and my aunt was really sheltered before getting married. Within 7 years she had 5 children. Four living and one stillborn. She lost her dad and within 5 years of getting married. My uncle was emotionally and physically abusive to her. He also cheated on her with endless women. She became so addicted that she ended up dying at 47 from years of addiction. She went to rehab countless times, only to end up relapsing. My mom got addicted from just being a young woman who had been sexually abused by a man that worked for her dad and a man who was a distant family member . No one knew about it till my mother went to rehab at 40. She got counseling and was able to deal with it and move on from it. She also was diagnosed with ADHD, once she was on medication for it, she didn’t need to self medicate anymore. She was sober for the rest of her life. We were able to build a relationship, not like mother/daughter, but a great loving relationship. She died of a heart embolism at 50. Despite being in perfect health otherwise. I tell you all this to explain that addiction is a disease, no different than diabetes, cancer, etc. . I have my Masters in Psychology and Education. I studied addiction in university for my dissertation. People treat addicts like horrible, lazy, weak, etc people, but the truth is that the chemistry in their brains are altered from the drugs or alcohol. It’s incredibly difficult to stop without in-depth medical and psychological help. There are many medications now that greatly increase the chance for sobriety to stick. However, in the States it’s incredibly hard to get even basic therapy, nevermind drug and alcohol rehabilitation medications and facilities. I suggest reading up on addiction. I know first hand how devastating it is to have addicts in your family. But they deserve empathy because they’re suffering from a legitimate disease. Substance abuse disorder, is now recognized as an actual illness. Almost 75% of people with it , have suffered from some form of mental illness, PTSD, childhood abuse or neglect, etc. Being addicted to drugs or alcohol is a miserable existence, that no one enjoys. They deserve some compassion.

I just wanted to say also, that many of the songs aren’t from Noah’s perspective. They are from different family, friends and people from his hometown. I really think the documentary will help you understand more. I suggest watching his interviews with Zach Sang, Jay Shetty and Rolling stone. They really give insight into the songs on the album and their inspirations and meanings.
