She manifested her alligator husband with this music video 😂 and ya her videos can get a lil freaky (cue the freak mv) so just be prepared 😂

anna

Ok so from what i remember this is the first video in a trilogy so in order it makes more sense. Starts with this video. Next is born to die. And the last is shades of cool which is on Ultraviolence. Basically tells the story of a doomed relationship. But it’s not necessary to watch in order cause I think they stand alone. But ya it may all fall into place when you get to ultraviolence.

Lanas commitment to making songs about white trash “bad boys” has to be studied lmao Are we getting a Kehlani reaction tho!? Plss 🙏🏽😁

Liv Heskett

“No puh leaseeee” rewired my brain chemistry 😂

No cause here’s the thing, I 100% agree w you, I love these performances, she’s so weird and I f w it. People def were not ready for this. It was an era of like party rock anthem and firework and rolling in the deep. Very polished pop. This kinda experimental theatrical stuff was so out of left field that people really trashed this saying that she was basically talentless and slept her way to a record deal. This criticism has followed her to this day. An article came out like last year and they anonymously interviewed Grammy voters and one of them literally said that he refuses to vote for Lana Del Rey because he doesn’t take her seriously since this performance. Anyway, I think you’ll really really enjoy ultraviolence after you get through paradise because that was a response to the public and the critics. She recorded every song in one take even improving one song. Anyway, I’m glad you actually found the beauty in these cause that means you’ll really appreciate what’s to come from her.

Also hearing my comment out loud was horrendous cause I used speech to text and the use of “like” translates horribly 😂😂 lol gotta work on that

anna

i think the snl performance wasn’t as bad as people made it seem. when she sang it in so many different ways it sounded a bit funny lol but the amount of hate she received and them making a skit mocking her was dramatic. it turned into an iconic performance and i’m so glad she continued to make amazing music!!

Unfortunately this "Blue Jeans" performance is still hated by some people. Even in 2024 when her album "Did you know that there's a tunnel under Ocean blvd" was nominated for Album of the year at the Grammys ("Midnights" by Taylor actually won), one of the academy members said he never will take Lana seriously after that SNL performance from like 12 years ago at that time

Her performance of „Video Games“ on Letterman is probably my favorite from this era. I‘d highly recommend checking it out, it‘s still up on YouTube.

Firstly, thank you for taking a moment to praise the love of my life, Daniel Radcliffe!! 😭❤️ Not only was he a gay awakening for me, but he has also been a fierce, unapologetic ally & activist for the queer community since like 2009, before it was considered “cool.” (And of course, you’re my other favorite Daniel! 💕) I was crying at you repeatedly going back to the fingers in her mouth. 😂😂😂 If Lana’s artistry doesn’t make you lose your inhibitions, you ain’t experiencing it right!! What I’ve always found so funny about the SNL performance is that she was clearly in character and making most of those choices intentionally. I’m sure she was nervous to some degree, but she was giving us drama!!!! It was pure CAMP. It's also worth pointing out that her pitch was great throughout. She was just playing around stylistically.

Lana seriously always knows how to make not a music video but a mini movie!!! The aesthetic of this video is so beautiful and sultry.🔥😍

She pours emotion on every syllable, you can tell her body feels eeeverything she sings, she had a unique style that people obviously thought was weird for some reason. I think maybe some of her other blue jeans’ performances felt more confident, but the style wasn’t much different from this one, as you will be able to see for instance at the Scala club! This performance resembles an actress but who plays with her voice, and that is so admirable. She performed this way because it was how she felt.

I've just started the video but what's funniest is that 14 years later, she married a gator tour guide. She really loves alligators 😅

Lana said even her parents didn't know she was a singer until the day she performed on SNL. That dress was borrowed and she was nervous af. What breaks my heart is her face after blue jeans, so sad and like she's thinking "I messed it up"

Oh gosh - the venom with which folks responded to her performances here was unlike anything ever experienced before or since. I remember thinking at the time that if she’d had a mic stand in front of her, it would’ve completely changed the dynamic of the performance. Was it wonderful? Probably not - she was clearly nervous, her low was too low, her falsetto was a bit strained due to anxiety, and she tried to improvise and rework; but honestly, it was nowhere near as bad as people said - and at least it wasn’t lip synched. She demonstrated great technical and creative potential, and was completely unique. I remember thinking at the time how mysterious and alluring her voice had the potential to be. Daniel Radcliffe was interviewed about this a few times, and he said: “Well, she had the last laugh” - thank god. I also don’t think a male artist would’ve received the same treatment…

I’ve been loving this Lana deep dive you get it!
