Caroline Zeeman is one of Gracie’s photographers! She talks about feeling like a poser and doesn’t want Caroline to answer her when she doubts the person she is becoming

I love her voice so much on this one, yet another relatable and vulnerable song from her. The production is super pretty as well, makes me want to dance like close to you even though it’s a lot more of a sad song compared to it. I can’t wait to jam this one in the car for sure🔥

Heres my interpretation of the song: when gracie was first starting off she said she never had the intention or interest to be a performer because she felt like it was such a private practice and it felt too scary to be a performer but then she fell in love with it. I think the song is about her reaching her lifelong dream but not wanting to become unrecognizable to herself and wanting it to be everything shes ever wanted this stage of her life to be.

That dumpster fire scene. For me it really solidifies how zooming in on dumpster fire pain can help us zoom out to see how we might define or redefine personal progress. When she says "What am I doing here?" it reminds me of a pivot point Ed Sheeran talks about in his documentary where, like Gracie, he's at an LA party thinking about bad news about his grandparent that wouldn't matter in that setting. He asks the same question, "What am I doing here?" and moves home. It feels helpful when artists try to capture difficult self-reflective moments in the arc of chasing a dream, whether its a record deal or a relationship, where they listen to the pain, feel the internal muck, and wrestle with the invitation to look at causes closely and run in some different direction for a minute. The song also feels like a valuable contribution to the picture of complex costs artists take on as they create, recalling lyrics from songs like Brittany's "Lucky", Taylor's "You're On Your Own Kid", "The Life of a Showgirl" etc. as I listened. Even if these themes are intertwined with a path not everyone is on, I think they still speak to the tradeoffs we all make in our choices, which just really inspires me to pause and listen and write about the dumpster fires within🔥🗑️. Speaking of TS- I read a book, which was a biography of 3 of her cats, and according to it she nicknames one of them Nepo Baby.

"Maybe if I smile enough, I'll get away with giving up" HOLY SHIT THAT LINE. What a gut punch that is extremely relatable! And the way she says "my nightmare actualized" instead of "my dream came true" to kind of show again that she got what she wanted, but it's not this shiny happy thing that people think it is. 😭 I loved your analysis of the song! When you said that we're good at pretending everything is fine, you got me choked up. I think in a way I'm kind of doing that myself right now just to keep my freaking sanity and not fall apart with fear over the health stuff I'm dealing with. Just trying to stay positive and hopeful, but like Gracie sings, "bet you can't tell, but it's kind of a bad time" And you know I definitely agree with you about the nepo baby thing! It's really dumb, because it's a generalization people stick on anyone who happens to have famous/successful parents, rather than taking any nuance to the topic! I've said this before, but none of us can control how we're born. It's not fair to judge someone on that alone. You gotta look at who they actually are and what they do. Gracie puts out gorgeous art based on her hard work and talent. And she spreads so much good in the world because of her heart. That's what counts IMO. She's not a Trump or Kardashian kid. 🤣 I think Gracie is just massively underrated. She's one of the best singer/songwriters we have out there today, and she's a beautiful person. I seriously cannot wait for the album!! If the first couple singles are any indication, it's going to destroy me in the best way! 💔 Have a wonderful weekend, my dear friend! Thank you for another lovely video! 🥰

I loved this song from first listen (hit the wall took a couple of listens). I love that she's exploring more powerful and less wispery vocals. Both songs are getting me very excited for her upcoming album. Regarding the nepo baby comments, I agree with you, what would you want her to do, turn 18 and disown her family? At least she's putting beautiful art in the world. Yes, she probably had an advantage and some doors opened for her, who would say no to that? Life is unfair, many people have 'unfair' advantages, some are born beautiful, some are born very smart, some are naturally talented, some have NBA athlete genes, some are born into wealth. I believe you are doing a disservice to the world if you don't use your talents and your tools and advantages to make the world a better place. For artists, the main criteria for me are 'do I like the art?' and 'is this not a horrible person?', both boxes are ticked for me with Gracie. Personally I loved a few of her songs before even knowing her name and googling her, so that's all I needed to like her art. On another note, I hadn't popped in here in a while and I missed it. Lot's of hugs to everyone :)
