This was musical transcendence.

I have never head the opportunity to hear Vai's solo compositions. I have heard him play with Devin Townshend before, but that's it.

I want to know what kind of guitar he was using in the first video. It was gorgeous!

The orchestra version? YES!

Hearing Jill's version was lovely as well. Her ability to simulate the same effects that guitar can do is incredible.

With Devin, it's not so much just that he's a fan/friend of Steve, as he also got his first big break playing/singing for him. When Devin was 19 he was put in contact with Vai whilst working on his first Noisescapes album 'Promise', after having signed to the same music label Relativity Records. Vai then recruited Devin to sing on his follow up record to 1990's Passion & Warfare (which 'For the Love of God' was from). It was a conceived as a deliberately opposite reaction to the expectations & pressures of releasing something similar. Initially the album was meant to be more of a band record with a bunch of high end musicians joining Steve & contributing to the writing, but Vai ended up micro-managing the project which caused a bunch of conflict during the recording process. The album 'Sex & Religion' was released in 1993 under the band name 'Vai', but from the studio lineup only Devin remained to be a part of the touring band, also playing second guitar. The album under performed and Devin had a really bad experience with the music industry side of things. His next band Strapping Young Lad was in part a result of this time, using this pseudonym for the project to avoiding using his own name which was then heavily associated with Vai's misstep.

Loved every minute of the "long form" react... Although I'm a little surprised Princess Nittpicc didn't say anything about Jill's doll like dress and giant single black ribbon bow on her head.

Posted pics of Vai's guitar from the MV in the Subscriber Chat on Discord.

Lol! I noticed! I thought the bow on her head was her hair in the shape of a bow. And I loved the dress! I was also in love with the stockings she had on. 😭 Sometimes the musicianship can distract me enough to not mention the fashion. I also never want to bore anyone with my fashion talk 😆

NittPicc Reacts

This is the kind of stuff I love to hear about. Sheesh. I always forget that Devin had Strapping Young Lad. God I loved the sound of the project. ☺️

I saw Strapping Young Lad live at Download in 2006, it was the infamous gig where he blew his nose a short way into the set but it landed & proceeded to hang off on his greasy skullet dreadlocks for the rest of the show. The performance itself was great but the visual was rather off-putting.

Stunningly beautiful...

For an other great cover of Quadratum/Unlucky Morpheus, you can check out their version of Dream Theaters The Dance Of Eternity. Not sure if you are familiar with Dream Theater or that track in particular (I am mainly that track because of the Unlucky Morpheus cover), but they are a progressive metal band who tends to play pretty technical pieces. Unlucky Morpheus does an amazing job with that cover. I would recommend checking out the live version of it (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XC2A1hbuLmI) although it does have their Van Halen Eruption cover at the beginning of that video as well (it's very short though). It's just that seeing them play this live always blows my mind. For more info on their Quadratum cover release, here is the tracklist of the release: 1. Far Beyond The Sun (by Yngwie Malmsteen) 2. The Dance Of Eternity (by Dream Theater) 3. Into The Arena (by The Michael Schenker Group) 4. Hundreds Of Thousands (by Tony MacAlpine) 5. Scarified (by Racer X) 6. Eruption (by Van Halen) 7. For The Love Of God (by Steve Vai) 8. Technical Difficulties (by Racer X) 9. 17th Century Chicken Pickin' (by Impellitteri) It's an amazing album and even though I only heard of a couple of the originals before I got the album, it actually might the album by Unlucky Morpheus I listen to the most. It shows off so well how great they all are as musicians and that doubly goes for Jill. And that's without both founding membersd (Shiren and Fuki) who are really good at what they do as well. Btw, I guess people already mentioned before, but Jill has perfect pitch, which probably helps with her ability to mimic the pitch bends and things like that and her violin playing in general. She also played blindfolded through The Dance Of Eternity on a livestream and I think some other pieces as well around the time the Quadratum album dropped. Edit: here is the part of her playing it blindfolded (it should start around 24:14) https://www.youtube.com/live/8eZVVtaOBKk?si=TEel49ti2cMm-Hv0&t=1454 The majority of that livestream is a playthrough of their "Hypothetical box act.3" album, which is basically a re-recording (the 3rd one, now with the current full lineup) of one of their Touhou cover albums. Touhou is a video game franchise (wiki Touhou project) which has a large amount of cover bands because they allow people to remix their songs and sell them (they also allow to sell fangames of the franchise). It is pretty big in Japan from what I understand and Unlucky Morpheus originally started out as a project for these covers (when it was only Shiren and Fuki), about 15 years ago. Shiren is a huge nerd from what I understand (I say that lovingly, I consider myself one as well) and I know he has streamed games in the past.

Vai - student of Satriani and early friend of Frank Zappa, 3 time grammy winner, said to have been given his "big break" and made a household name by David Lee Roth. Maybe more on that later if NittPicc is willing ;) . Vai has seemingly been everywhere and performed with bands like Whitesnake and even Ozzy. He has a stellar resume ... and yes, you should do more Vai because you will never get a full picture from just one song :) .
