I knew this was coming. I knew I was going to cry.

I am so proud of these (imaginary and animated) students. All that hard work paid off and their journey is going to continue...

...but why is this called the "final episode" when there is an episode 14???

INTERESTING!

Season 1 are 13 episodes. Crunchyroll label the first OVA as episode 14 and attach it at the season. Don't know why. OVA means "Original Video Animation". The OVA's are mostly side stories that are irrelevant to the main plot. You will see when you see this OVA. Remeber team Monaca. After this OVA (ep 14) there's a bunch of shorts but are only funny gags, but there are not in Crunchryroll. Just go to season 2 after ep 14. One of the things I love is Taki sensei is almost one more of the band and Michie sensei is the one that get all in order..HA HA, Love her.

Great stories come from overcoming adversity in any form. This is one of them regardless if it's a "work of fiction". I completely understand your emotions during this story. I'm not a musician, but I can certainly empathize with you about the story.

After episode 14 you do indeed go straight into season 2, it's after season 2 that it gets slightly more convoluted. There are the first two Sound! Euphonium movies, which are essentially just recaps of seasons 1 & 2 respectively. There might be a bit of a additional footage and the editing tweaks the focus in places due to a shorter overall format; but we're saying to skip these as they're not vitally important. After season 2 is "Liz & the Blue Bird" which works as a standalone film and focuses mostly on other members of the ensemble and it's story runs sort of parallel with some of the events of the second season, thus makes even more sense if you're familiar with what comes before. The third Sound! Euphonium movie, "Our Promise: A Brand New Day" subtly ties in with things only seen in "Liz & the Blue Bird" (little nods within the plot that have in-joke type flavour) whilst acting primarily more as the narrative bridge covering the time between seasons 2 & 3. Technically there is also a 1hr long OVA titled "Sound! Euphonium: Ensemble Contest" following the 3rd movie, which saw theatrical release in Japan and acted partly as a teaser leading into the start of season 3. But there's no way to watch it entirely legally online and hasn't been physically released outside of Japan. (EDIT: Discovered if you have a VPN and set it to Japan you can then stream it via Netflix, but unfortunately without English subtitles https://www.netflix.com/jp-en/Title/81765106 ) Season 3 then concludes the story in impressive fashion. They have also announced a theatrical film version of the third season, titled "Sound! Euphonium: The Final Movie" scheduled to premiere in 2026, but it's more of a recap like the first two movies. "Crescent Moon Dance" the free choice piece performed by the band at the contest is credited in show as composed by Namie Horikawa, a fictional female composer. In actual fact it was written and arranged by Akito Matsuda, who also wrote nearly all other original pieces of music for the show. Realise this point is moot, since you already said you were gonna binge it the same night; but as Luis explained in his comment (actually we both also mentioned it in our comments on Ep.12, as well as earlier on in the season when discussing the structure of the whole show/franchise), Episode 14 is a bonus OVA which was originally only included as an extra with the physical Bluray/DVD boxset release. Crunchyroll just tagged it onto the end of the season cos it kinda makes sense with the timeline and it's about where most OG fans would've originally seen it. It's a nice side story that will appeal to your band geek-ness, covering extended cast world building type stuff focused on Team Monaca and very much worth your time.

I love how much you find this season exciting, the second one is just as amazing and I'm so excited about your reaction to the third because it's full of moments I think you'll love.
