My mental state might be compromised, but my love for Apothecary Diaries is not!

I was thinking about this anime while I was at home with family, and I wanted so bad to watch the show when I was tired in bed and ready to sleep. I wouldn't be able to sleep though because this show gives me the giddies! Hah!

Also...how dare they cut the show off RIGHT WHEN IT WAS GETTING GOOD?!?

I NEED THE GARDEN PARTY, TUH-DAY!

I'm sure you already guessed, but just to clarify, the hairpin is a symbol that say "she is under my protection", the same way Gyokuyou give the pendant to protect Maomao, Jinshi give his hairpin to protect her too. Not something that someone who see her as just a "toy" or "pawn" would do, but my boy was smitten the moment he saw her all dressed up so I wouldn't give him crap lol.

6 episodes to go?....nope.. this show seasons are 24 episodes long. Two seasons, 48 episodes total. This show talks about very dark and serious subjects all wrapped in a fun and colorful package.

As Luis has said this is a double cour show, which is when a season is 22-26 episodes typically released over approx. six months. You've mostly been reacting to single cour shows where it's only 10-13 episodes per season. Single cour shows are more common because there's less of a financial commitment involved from the committees that commission them and it also doesn't tie up a large chunk of the resources of a studio for as long. The hairpin and the pendant are tokens/talismans that show you carry the favour of & are effectively partially 'claimed' by the higher ranking person that gives it to you. It's another layer of court intrigue added to the hierarchy of the Inner Palace and generally speaking the higher ranking the official/consort the more elaborate their tokens can be. Maomao whilst in many way far more highly educated than the average citizen, has still been made aware of the realities of the darker side of her society from a young age, she's under no illusions and combines this with her pragmatic viewpoint. Jinshi has had an upbringing of privilege by contrast and been somewhat insulated from such things, hence his reaction to her using cosmetics as a tool to stand out less as an armour/protection of sorts.
