Since we are continuing the journey through Sound! Euphonium, I figured this would be okay.

I know we shouldn't watch bootleg versions of movies and such, but this was available to me on a website so easily that I just couldn't ignore. I wouldn't say it has a lot a weight in the story telling part of our members of the band, but I will say that we see Kumiko grow as a leader and I am here for it.

Here is part 1!

A little of Mizore's wisdom: "Kumiko...you're good at opening windows"....mmmmmmm. "Ensemble contest" was realeased as a theatrical film in Japan on August 4, 2023. Nobody in the west licensed it, don't know why. The only way to see this is "sailing in the high seas".

As Luis has said, this was originally a domestic only limited theatrical release in Japan that was also treated a little like an OVA, it's not got the same budget as the two full length movies that you've just watched, but it also has a noticeably higher budget & slightly more polish than two episodes from the regular series for TV broadcast. One thing I like about this release is it introduces us to more folk from the wider ensemble who've previously been treated more like background characters. I also enjoyed Mizore's little quip/double meaning about open windows, nice little indirect nod to 'Liz & the Blue Bird'. It's not just the US where you can't stream this legally, currently the only way to sort of 'legally' stream this worldwide would be to learn Japanese first and watch it on Netflix Japan without subtitles whilst using a VPN. Under these circumstances I think the bootlegging is more understandable, I had to do the same.
