Here is part 2 of the ensemble contest!

Again, I am so happy to not have tears in this movie reaction.

I will say this and I'll keep saying it...losing doesn't mean you lost. It just means you have to keep striving for greatness.

The song at the end is "Ensemble" sung by TRUE, the godmother of this show. "Ensemble contest arc" resumed in one sentence: "Kumiko, you're good at opening windows". Mizore's based. As for the third years retiring from the band, don't know for sure, but what I understand is that as the band didn't advance to the nationals, the former president and vice select the next in line and they retire to concentrated in their studies for entering college. That doesn't mean that they graduate already. Now, season 3. The grand finale!!

The way their school years work is perhaps what's throwing you out. The Japanese school year runs from April to March and is divided into three semesters, with breaks for summer, winter, and spring. The first semester is April to July, the second is September to December, and the third is January to March. Summer vacation typically lasts from late July through August, winter break is roughly late December to early January, and spring break is in late March to early April. After the nationals finished the 3rd-year leadership retired to work on studying for college entrance exams. The major entrance exams are conducted between January & March, but I think Yuuko & co were referring to mid-term exams that would be considered their prep work. Some of your struggles with following the subtleties of the conversations is down to there being a fair bit of cultural non-verbal subtext at times and also things that don't directly translate, the same phrase can have multiple meanings depending on inflection & body language. Subtitles are always imperfectly trying to localise nuance and sometimes it works better than others. One of the things I like about subbed is you can usual glean a bit more context from the original delivery of lines in Japanese, even when you don't understand all the words being said directly. I really enjoy the montage sequence showing all the ensemble entrants in their groups, including putting names to faces that otherwise don't get much focus within the main storyline and even with still images posing it gives them a little more personality. 'Sound! Euphonium: The Final Movie' yet to be released is technically a two part theatrical recap of season three, there might be addition visual polish & some extra animation sequences but if it's like the first two recap movies it's essentially just the same story re-cut, the first part releases in spring 2026.

I'm glad we made to the ensemble contest! Fun fact, you can actually find all the other ensemble arrangements of the other groups on YouTube (can definitely see why the clarinets took the win). Looking forward to season 3!
