NOTE: I apologize for the low energy here at the beginning of this video. I had just finished reacting to music by Chris Cornell and it took a lot out of me.

I haven't had the opportunity to watch a live version of one of my absolute FAVORITE songs from BAND-MAID.

The intro of this song is absolutely gorgeous, starting only with piano and Kanami's guitar singing alone with a simple melody.

Hearing Saiki sing this song live is a different experience and the worst part is the is as close to live as I'll get for now.

Someday...

Until then, I'll keep "daydreaming."

At this point, if Kanami sprouted wings and turned into an angel, I wouldn't even be surprised.....

BandMaidfanATL

Wait, wasn't she born with wings? 😇

A rare view of Miku's Private Stock Zemaitis with the Pigeon inlays on the fretboard

Msquare

My favorite ballad by them. BTW your cover, over on YT, was beautiful .

Luis Arispe

Breathtaking!. Just that.

Charles Coleman

Maybe not, but she certainly is an Angel.

Charles Coleman

First, before watching this, FANTASTIC job on the collab cover!! You two made me close my eyes to better drink it all in. Thank you!!

Charles Coleman

This is very simply, a musical masterpiece. I get chills and goosebumps every time I hear it. And this intro takes it into the very highest level, especially when you understand what the intro is. Kanami wrote this intro for her Grammy who had recently passed. They had hoped she could make it to the big show, but Time waits for no one. So that intro is Kanami singing to her Grammy in Heaven. I get choked up everytime I think about this as she's playing.

Charles Coleman

Daydreaming or Endless Story. To quote our much beloved NittPicc, "Por que no los dos?" (I hope I got the Spanish right, LOL!) I refuse to choose.

Jonas S

Best power ballad ever! I'll die on this mountain! :)

David Cousins

You are not the only one who gets emotional listening to this song. This is, in my opinion, a perfect song that hits all the chords. I do love Endless Story and so many others, but this one hits just a bit different. On a different note, if you have not watched/listened to or have been informed about the stream that the ladies released on 2 days ago you must and I do mean must watch. It is from their acoustic shows in Tokyo this past April. My love and respect for them went beyond what I thought possible.

When Saiki breathes out that long note at the end of the intro, you can feel the entire audience breathing in and it feels like they don't exhale until she does it again at the coda. It's usually Kanami's Daydreaming solo that brings a tear but here it's Saiki's performance. Over the years I've realized that a handful of female vocalists have the ability to affect me deeply with their voices. Usually it's emotional, but with Saiki it's so strong that it feels almost physical. I wrote at length about it on the BM discord so I won't bore you with it here, but I'll say I was surprised to find I hear the magic in her speaking voice, too. In fact, the sound of her laughter is one of my favourite things in the world. Thanks for sharing this experience with us. Oh, and one more thing. I'd bet money that they know you

Great performance of a great song - that entire okyuji was amazing. Feel my soul, as the Queen says. Also for me, phonetic singing along with Band-Maid is basically its own language.

Zelbinian

Yeah! For a hot second I thought she might have been borrowing a PRS from Kanami

Zelbinian

Such a powerful performance of a powerful song. I bet next time they do it like that Saiki will be playing the piano intro live!

Zelbinian

Your commentary at the end reminded me of a line from Bestie: "Look up in the sky / we live in the same time."

Nomad1991

Amazing cover…. I have seen bandmaid play daydreaming in 2023 it’s 100% better live and kanami added the intro making it even better…. A couple of years ago I watched ohrenje, saiki video hearing she had vocals problems and then hearing her sing this and reading the lyrics I cried it was a good cry 🤘🏻🫶🏼🤘🏻

NittPicc, you're not alone in your emotional response to "Daydreaming". I'm sure many Maidiacs, including me, when Maids perform this song. This morning I watched the Billboard Japan TV live acoustic concert by Band-Maid. I have come to the conclusion that Band-Maid is much, much, much more than just a rock band. These five young Japanese women are among the most talented and professional musicians in the world today.

William Hallisey

Every time a person goes to a Band-Maid live concert, they need to understand they are in same room with musical greatness.

Wayne B

Miku would lend Kanami hers if she asked, I'm sure!

Wayne B

I still say this song is Band-Maid's "Stairway to Heaven"! Especially this performance, just a masterpiece! Tears every time! BTW, your cover was brilliant!

Wayne B

The Japanese audiences are so respectful of the artists! They wait till Saiki says we're done, then they clap!

BandMaidfanATL

Saiki specifically requested a song in this style from Kanami, so naturally, Mincho wrote her a classic. 👸💚👀😍

Nomad1991

This ^^^even in movie theaters they stay until the credits are over to stand up and leave for respect of the director

How do you make a perfect song even more perfect? You ask Kanami to write a beautiful new intro for it. How do you make a perfect song more perfect twice? You make it acoustic and have Saiki play piano. You should react to that version next.

It’s interesting two Japanese songs that move me the most have lyrics that centre on the word 声 (koe-voice). This song and Scandal’s 声.

Juan San

Oh yes, it's certainly wonderful to live in the same era as Band Maid. This is Daydreaming's best performance, in my opinion. You could write an entire LP of rock ballads based solely on that intro by Kanami. I hope they get to play with a small orchestra at their back sometime. No one deserves it more.

Juan San

You got the spanish right!

Paul Bame

I'd like reactors to add year-later reactions to the popular first-time listens., kinda like you did here. My eyes often dampen as soon I recognize Daydreaming, instantly eager for its beauty to play through my soul, and I suspect I'm in good company.
