Since it's been a while since I've listened to Thank You Scientist.

If you haven't seen my first reaction to them, I would check it out on YouTube! It was a fun reaction to FXLMDR with the drum corps, Bluecoats!

Anyway, this starts off like a jazz chart, so I wasn't so sure of what I was getting into to since I thought they were a progressive rock band. I wasn't going to complain though. The opening was sick and I was here for it!

As the song moves on, it begins to show multiple personalities rooted in jazz, rock, and showed moments of major and minor modes with the use of pentatonic scales.

This was just SO MUCH FUN!

Wow, I also had it in my head they were a prog metal band, but this was a lot closer to that modern jazz fusion category with Skinny Puppy, Dirty Loops, and the like. Very cool and, like you said, a ton of fun! (That vocalist just worships at the feet of Claudio from Coheed and Cambria, huh? lol)

Fun fact: Thank You Scientist is signed to Evil Ink records, a label owned by Claudio Sanchez of Coheed! Unfortunately their vocalist left the band a few years ago to focus on family responsibilities. But they recently got a new vocalist and are working on a new album!

Thanks for checking this out! Thank You Scientist is labeled as a prog rock band, but a lot of their progressive-ness comes from fusing Rock and even some heavier more metal-like elements with Jazz. It creates some really fun variety in their songs, and they're really creative with their compositions, as you noticed. They have 3 full length albums out that are full of really cool stuff!
