I don't think she means any harm when she says she doesn't want to take a spot from any current members of the band. I truly believe that she is just trying to be kind to her peers, but because she is new, it can possibly come across as if she is cocky (or at least that's how it feels for me).

This makes me feel a little embarrassed for my teenage self because I honestly thought that there were a lot of other students who were deserving of winning a chair in an ensemble, but I didn't remmebr that I prepared myself and that I deserved what I earned with practice. There's a lot to unfold here for me!

Anyway, I really like how Kumiko help de-escalate tehc conversations that were tough to have like the underclassmen not seeing Taki-Sensei as a revered teacher.
