It hurt my heart to see Mahiru feel embarrassed about her beautiful mural that she created. It was colorful and full of life. Her friends laughing and making fun of it would've sent me into a verbal frenzy, but Mahiru...she was mortified.

I'm glad that Kano stood up for her. I'm glad she asked Mahiru to create for her. I cannot wait to see what comes next!

Yes this is a fairly recent anime, if I remember correctly, it was airing at the same time as Girls Band Cry, because yeah, two anime music oriented with sapphic subtext in it at the same time, didn't occur that much lol. Dude, I think I might goe all again into my emotions rewacthing it, because I remember feeling for this girls because I resonate with them, I'm an artist after all, with pretty niche taste and being amab nonbinary, liking thing "girly" when I was young was a no no, so yeah, wanting to be ourself and assuming what you like, take time but you end up here, just wish I could have learned that sooner. Speaking of which, for your question about the bullying, I think I already talked about it in Girls Band Cry, since the topics also came in this anime, but yeah, looking back I was bullied even if I didn't know what it was at that time (I was like 13 maybe), because I had a condition, a kind of scalp eczema, which gave the impression that I had dandruff, so some of my classmate started saying that I didn't bath or shower ect ect (and of course it was the class rep and all her group, that act like good students in front of the teachers but are true bitch when they don't look). I know that in this period of time, I started taking my anger by punching wall or tree but also to make scars on myself, I was a dumb kid... But I created this "persona" to protect myself that, I was a little crazy and unhinged, so if they try to hurt me, they don't know what's coming. I keeped it in a way until I was 16/17 years old, that helped me too fight against my shyness, so all wasn't for nothing. I still have scars to this day, from when by anger I punched a glass window and cut my hand (I have three scars on my right hand that look like wolverine's claws will come out of it, so that pretty cool I guess lol) , instead of punching the person that angered me, because I always punished myself more than anyone else. So yeah, about the "hating yourself" that Yoru said, I felt that too.

I like this show. It's not a perfect one. The first half is great and the second half bogged down and the finale is....ok. Just that. My opinion of course. But it's a enjoyable ride. Kano is voiced by the awesome Rie Takahashi that also sings the insert songs of the show.

Interesting atmosphere here....

That’s what I’ve heard from others. I wonder if I’ll feel the same way.

I got to a point where I wanted people to just try bullying me so they could see I could stand up for myself. I never understood why people bully others for being themselves or bully them for expressing themselves in ways that are safe. Art is a safe space and is meant to be interpretive. I tried to bury myself in music and dark clothing. I wanted to not be noticed but I wanted to be seen for my talents in music. I used to draw. It’s been a while, but i used to draw to ease some feelings as well. But my thing is if what someone is doing isn’t harming me, let them be. Ya know?

Band-Maid has a song about Influencer, called "Influencer". Have you heard of it? LOL!!!!! Just kidding!

This is why I panic anytime I type anything. 😅 Emotions are so hard to read in text. I get it. This show has something very sweet building. I am curious how an artist is going to fit into a musical atmosphere!

I'm similar in my thoughts to you Luis; in my pitch to NittPicc I think I described it as a show that starts with A+ potential but didn't quite match the initial ambition and was more of a B- by the end. However, I'm curious if my views might change/soften a little with this re-watch in light of still following the continued IRL/post-show adventures of JELEE.

I'm glad you're enjoying this, even if you felt somewhat called out by parallels within the story, from your emotional response I'm already feeling like it was worth recommending. It's not as tightly written & intense as Girls Band Cry or as fleshed out as Sound Euphonium, but I still enjoyed it overall and the art direction in the first episode in particular is great. It was released in 2024 as an anime original, so there wasn't a manga or light novel series to be based off that came out first; however there have manga & light novel adaptations released since. There has also been some other related stuff post-show right upto the present, but I won't go into detail with any of that until you've watched most of the anime.

I enjoyed this, although it did feel a little like the main characters dropped into Reina (sure of who she wants to be) and Kumiko (uncertain and thinking too much about what others think - at the start) stereotypes - which I guess things like that will become more common as I watch more anime... And perhaps it will develop in a different way - anyway I'll definitely stick with this one for now.
