Shooting an angel? That isn't your everyday sort of angel!

What does it mean to be "obliterated?"

What did I just watch?!

Angel Beats is great, very good anime

Vlad the Maidiac

One of the best animes of all times. All the songs in it have also a version with LiSA, and those are really the best ones. Wait until you hear LiSA's voice.

Ohhhhh... I can't wait until you discover what's this all about... 🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️😂😂😂😂😂 I hope you will not read any spoilers before that.

Vlad the Maidiac

You'll find out in the end that this anime is actually following the classical Christian concept. This is a limbo, and to be obliterated means... OK, I zip my lips. You'll find out in the end the reason for this "obliteration."

Angel is the kawaii version of Terminator...

1826. Reincarnation Does Not Exist "We know from His Teachings that reincarnation does not exist. We come on to this planet once only. Our life here is like the baby in the womb of its mother, which develops in that state what is necessary for its entire life after it is born. The same is true of us. Spiritually we must develop here what we will require for the life after death. In that future life, God, through His Mercy, can help us to evolve characteristics which we neglected to develop while we were on this earthly plane. It is not necessary for us to come back and be born into another body in order to advance spiritually and grow closer to God. "This is the Baha'i Teaching, and this is what the followers of Baha'u'llah must accept, regardless of what experiences other people may feel they have. You yourself must surely know that modern psychology has taught that the capacity of the human mind for believing what it imagines is almost infinite. Because people think they have a certain type of experience, they think they remember something of a previous life, does not mean they actually had the experience, or existed previously. The power of their mind would be quite sufficient to make them believe firmly such a thing had happened." https://bahai.works/Lights_of_Guidance/Reincarnation#1826

two thins: 1. The first episode is chaotic and confusing. 2. But things do get explained and that is what makes it great (besides the music)

My belief for reincarnation is based on Yogi-ism as in Yogi Berra. His quote (malaprop) is, "It's like deja-vu all over again!"

Don't try and overthink it and figure the overarching plot in the opening episode, there's plenty of details yet to be revealed, you literally don't have nearly enough of the pieces to put everything together yet. I would again say this is one where I wouldn't recommend reading the synopses beyond the episode titles, they won't really help you understand the plot and instead might just contribute spoilers for key story moments This anime is very much in the classic visual novel adaptation style of the time (show was originally released in 2010) as it was both conceived & the screenplay written by genre pioneer Jun Maeda, who also composed the music for the show. I fit very much into the thoroughly lapsed Roman Catholic category (main thing left is the guilt *semi-joking*), though since my teens I've been more agnostic leaning towards atheist, even if l continued being an altar boy intermittently through high school, sang in choir/chamber choir in sixth-form and still enjoy the spectacle of latin mass to this day. Some of the Old Testament angels were anything but peaceful and if you want an anime franchise that'd really rile up the bible-belt even further there's always Neon Genesis Evangelion.

Agree this was very WTF - but also cool as so different from anything else I've seen - looking forward to understanding more as the episodes go on, but I think I'll stay away from the comments section for unintended spoilers also
