I guess if you’re 4 teenage girls going on an expedition to Antarctica, you need some training especially if you’re going to be expected to be part of the adult team! The mystery around Shirase’s mom is brought somewhat to light, but remains pretty vague. Where is her mom?!

NittPicc, I miss your Concha wrap.

The sequence with Kimari and her mother happened, but it's framed as her telling it to her friend Megumi at school afterwards, so may be entirely from her viewpoint and exaggerated for comic and/or dramatic effect. Think about it in a similar way to how Nina was often an unreliable narrator with the flashback sequences in Girls Band Cry, though here it's probably not to the same degree as the story relies on it less as a plot device. The main reality is she used her mother's official stamp on the form (the Japanese version of a signature) without permission, effectively faking it.

I'm not going to get into spoiler territory, but Antarctica can be one of the most dangerous places on earth, simply because there's no permanent residents and you are so ridiculously remote & far from civilization (days if not weeks from any emergency services/hospitals, etc) if something goes wrong. Don't know the actual numbers, but I wouldn't be surprised if less people have visited Antarctica than partially climbed Everest. At this moment all we know for certain is Shirase's mom didn't come back from the last civilian expedition and the adults Gin & Kanae were both members of that expedition. You will duly learn a lot more as the story progresses, we're less than a third of the way into the story.

Concha can make a comeback! 😆 I brought it to bed and it quickly turned into the “pet favorite” blanket. I have to fight them for it. Lol
