This episode has some SERIOUS sexual undertones.

The saying about Naota not being one to "swing the bat..."

OOF!

I felt so bad for that kid. Also seeing his anger and frustration towards Haruko and his own dad...

It's awkward to watch, but it's a pretty darn accurate representation of adolescent feelings of love, lust, and anger wrapped up in one episode.

FLCL being the weirdest anime you ever watched, rest assured that it never really goes away, because I watched a looooooooooooot of anime, and FLCL is still on the top of the weirdest lol. But if I had to think about what happen with Naota and his father, on the lore of the show, Haruka tried to make something came out of the head of Naota's father, but only the manequin came out because he wasn't good for that. Now about the meaning behind it, we can try to imagine multiple ones, like, maybe the manequin is a representation of Naota's father lubricity toward Haruko and that is this part that Naota hated, the "killing" would be an image of Naota and his father talking about it and the father recognising that it wasn't him. Swiging the bat, obviously have sexual inuendo, but I think it also a way to represent taking the first step and responsability, almost all the episode, Naota did nothing, never faced his problem and when asked about what he did, he denied it, said it was an accident ect. So I think there is also that subtext in the episode. Sure he asked for is brother's help at the end, but he swung by himself first, he took the first step and that why Haruko came to help him at the end. I could be completely wrong about my interpretation, and I'm ok with that, I think the show is abstract enough on some subjects, that we can see what we want in it.
