I had seen these floating around on my YouTube recommended videos and I couldn't resist!

I didn't think that there was an interview with the Maikos since it seemed like they were trying to keep their identities...secret?

Also, I looked up difference with Kyoto-dialect! It's actually quite lovely. It apparently has a more harmonious sound to it with it's elegant and softer phrasing. I love this because it reminds me of using formal Spanish with my grandmother vs the informal version with my family and friends.

The behind the scenes video is fun to watch. I may not understand what they are saying in the video, but I can see that they are absolutely gorgeous and epic looking while filming. Also...the surprise Saiki birthday celebration at the end? CUTE!

I believe the BTS movies were made in 2018, Saiki's surgery was the summer of 2017. I could have sworn that when I first watched these videos there were sub titles, or maybe I just had auto translate turned. Another interesting tidbit I read about the kimonos is that a formal kimono with long sleeves is traditionally worn by unmarried women, when they marry the sleeves are shortened. The back of the neck is considered erotic, one of the reasons that most girls wear their hair down, but Miku is brave. There is a great series on Netflix called "The Makanai: Cooking for the Maiko House" that shows what's it's like in a Maiko house. Some of your questions are answered there, plus, it's a great series. Here's a short take on the neck issue is schools "From the length of students’ socks to the color of their underwear, Japanese schools are infamous for their strict requirements on what pupils can wear. But one rule has drawn criticism for not just its absurdity but also the reason behind it. Motoki Sugiyama, a former middle school teacher, said school administrators told him that girls must not wear a ponytail because exposing the nape of their necks could “sexually excite” male students." During the filming, the real music is being played so that each member can play along with it - sort of like lip syncing, but the audio track is layered on the video late, so what, for example, what Akane is playing is not really being recorded. In the MV for "Real Existence" Akane's drums are muted (you can see a black pad on the snare in one of the scenes) when they were filming in front of the shrine.

It's always great to see the behind the scenes stuff of how the music video was made... The fun that was had and the challenges faced to bring to us such a beautiful MV...

In the Band Maid subreddit, t-shinji, nair0n, and others have done an incredible job translating videos, interviews, magazines, and more. I think you can find practically everything there. I'd particularly like to express my gratitude and pay homage to these people who act as cultural intermediaries (not just translators) for the rest of the fans. Without them, all of this would be much more difficult.

Band-Maiko lore is immensely interesting!

Regarding sandals with a wedge at the front of the sole (okobo, I guess they're called), they're designed for walking on tiptoes. Sheena Ringo has an amazing performance of Marunochi Sadistic in a kimono wearing this type of sandal and walking with that gait. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6vSXA52L_cw

Their commitment to the April Fools prank is impressive! No half ways with these amazing ladies!

I loved some other outtakes from the shoot. After MISA did the call of the loon at the beginning of "Secret Maiko Lips" she bent over from her sitting position laughing her butt off. I jokingly say that the shot where Akane looked over her shoulder while ascending the huge stone stairs wearing her kimono and the wooden sandals wasn't really a pensive one, it was a look that said,"If I fall on these steps in this outfit, SOMEONE'S GOING TO DIE!" Also notice the coats everyone beside the Maids were wearing. I believe the video was filmed in February.

In traditional Japan, the neck is considered sexy so the low back on the Geisha kimonos are to show off more neck, like wearing a short skirt. The nape of the neck below the hair line never has makeup on it for maximum sex appeal. Kimonos are made of several layers that can get heavy especially if the outer layer has a heavy brocade pattern. There is no bodice but an obi which is a long sash made of heavy weight cloth.

FYI I created a script a few months back that adds some information to fan club videos, the most relevant here is it adds a button to pull up a translation of whatever video you are looking at. There is a post on reddit that describes exactly what you need to do to make it work. https://www.reddit.com/r/BandMaid/comments/1oa20gj/track_lists_search_and_translations_bandmaid_fan/ The translations are all on reddit, but they're not that easy to find. I have just taken those and made them a button click away. There is also a very similar script for BAND-MAID Prime that adds track listings with timestamps for multi-part videos, especially live shows. Once enabled whenever you navigate to a video, the additional info appears automatically. It also adds PREVIOUS and NEXT buttons for the multiple videos that make up a show or series.

Regarding translations, I left a previous comment about a fan club companion script which is still valid. I also have created a BAND-MAID app, and I just added all fan club translations directly into the app. The app requires no installation or user accounts as it's all web-based: https://drivetimebm.github.io/BAND-MAID_unofficial/

From experience, I can attest that the male kimono aka Kinagashi, is vey comfortable in the scorching hot weather in Japan. It is simple, cotton and thin. Yukata which are the ones you typically would rent for the day in Japan as a tourist, very similar. Cotton, thin and unpadded. Now these ladies are wearing either Furisode or worse Hikizuri. Those are both multiple layered Kimonos, They are padded, often made of silk and aside from being ridiculously expensive, they are ridiculously constraining and hot as heck. You certainly won't wear one for fun hence they are typically used for formal events and case in point, by Maiko for performances
