Anon seems like she has good intentions but her approach seems a little off with Tomori.

Tomori is awkward, but it seems to me that she is just a quiet girl who want's a friend group she can trust. Unfortunately for her, it was her previous band that was her family. Now that they are disbanded, her only choice seems to be Anon.

I'm interested. What's going to happen next?

Another of the BandG Dream stories, I don't know how many there are, but there are a bunch. Each one centers around a band, that come to life in real life. Take a look at their web site - https://en.bang-dream.com/ - I think you've ever reacted to one of the bands. The voice actors in real life are the band in the anime. When the girls are talking about popular band in the that scene with the first group of girls, they mention "Afterglow" - here's the web page of the bands from the BanG Dream project - https://en.bang-dream.com/artists/

Pretty intense first episode....

The drama in this is intense!. I think sometimes it's too much, but not to ruin the whole show.

I've not watched any of this franchise before, so I'm very excited to watch it with you. As said by Glen, the various senior bands mentioned in this episode are real life bands that perform (with the voice actors for the anime also being the live musicians in most cases) - Roselia and RAS (Raise a suillen) were mentioned here. Also I believe in series 2 the band Ave Mujica is introduced, and they're my most listened to band recently after GS and Doll$boxx

The Bang Dream franchise has been around as multimedia for a while, including anime, rhythm game, and live concerts. MyGO is a great place to start, since they are a full highschool cycle younger than most of the previous set of characters. As some other comments pointed out, it was inspired by idol anime and a certain K-ON event and the voice actors perform as a band irl. I was lucky enough to attend one during my japan trip in 2024! The previous entries in the franchise had some drama, but overall stayed more lighthearted in tone. I enjoyed them, but never thought they were amazing (compared to my favs, Hibike and K-ON). When MyGO dropped its first 3 episodes at once, I immediately knew it was going to be special.
