Please excuse my weepiness at the beginning of this. Angel Beats! destroyed me before this.

Please excuse my weepiness at the end of this. This show knows how to hit me just right to be happy and sad at the same time.

I wasn't expecting that ending!

I like to imagine the second journey is coming sooner than later.

Kimuri's friend Megumi went to the edge of the Arctic Circle to see the Northern Lights, not the Antarctic which is only possible with strictly expedition type stuff only, similar to what you saw in the show. That part of the Arctic is a lot more accessible for tourism and the like, most of the time you'd go via trips to Northern Scandinavia (mostly Norway & Finland) in Europe, especially given how visiting Russia is an especially bad idea at the moment for lots of reasons. Kimuri's journey still inspired her though and broke her out of her own shell/rut. This episode is in some ways an epilogue to the emotional climax of the show last time out, but does a nice job of resolving the immediate aftermath of the story without drawing a hardline under the lives of the characters. I thought the unsent outbox message was a nice touch, the synchronicity with what the girls were experiencing to tie it together and especially with Gin getting to send it on to Shirase on behalf of her departed friend. Plus in giving her the laptop, Shirase essentially also gave Gin permission to read all those hundreds of emails she'd sent her mum over several years, which will help them understand each other so much more going forward; in part because neither seem great at outwardly sharing with others at times. In my own head cannon I believe over time they'll become as close & comfortable around each other as her mum Takako hoped given they're so alike. Another detail I really liked was Yuzuki's mum being so emotional and embracing her when she returned, being her manager from a young age had turned their relationship into something more professional and less mother & daughter. Nothing like a prolonged absence to trigger some self reflection and reawaken those feelings in her. I'm really glad you enjoyed this show so much, might be good fun to give it six months or so and then do a private re-watch, binging it in just 2-3 sittings tops, see if the experience is any different when you're totally absorbed and not staggering it over multiple weeks/months.
