At first I has some sympathy for the late Emperor, but that QUICKLY changed.

Hearing about him painting and hiding his work made me feel sad for him. I imagine being awkward and not "leadership material" even though you are destined to be can be hard.

...but the love for ONLY young girls...

I draw the line there. Even if historically most people didn't live long, there is no excuse for such acts. I will say though that it seems like he has gynophobia, the fear of women. Again though, NOT AN EXCUSE for his disgusting want.

It must be weird for Anshi to see the late Emperor's face in Jinshi.

My understanding for this episode is that : - Anshi knew the emperor liked young girl and chose to go toward him instead of doing what her position ask of her. Even if she was a child, she knew that doing so, would favor her and could lead her to be the empress. As for the later, call it pride or something else, she wanted to be the only woman in the emperor's head and yeah, she forced herself on him, that was the night her second baby would be conceived (which would later die from honey if we believe the theory of Maomao). - For the late emperor, more than a phobia, I think he was maybe abused... We know that his brothers all die and he became an emperor at a young age, so it's not impossible that older women tried to seduce him to bear his child and become the next empress. Doing so, making him fear older women and become the pedo he was. There is also the case of his mother, who was really the one controling the empire, for the brief flashback we had, it seem like he was afraid of her and couldn't speak for himself when facing her, so another thing to add to his trauma. I'm not defending him, but I think the story implies that he has circumstances. Speaking of the empress, since she was the one really in charge, she also was the one that let her son do the things he did to the young girls... She could have stoped everything, but she did not. - As for the painting, it's left rather vague, but yeah, we can assume that the lady in yellow in it, is Anshi, making her the last person occupying the thought of the late emperor, is it because he was sorry, is it because of what she did to him, is it for another reason ? We don't know, but the painting didn't seem to feel like it was made with hate or anger. - And to finish, about Jinshi and him looking like the late emperor, Jinshi also look like Ah-Duo, so both genetic from his granddad and Ah-Duo have combined to this beautiful creature of a man. But yeah, is it often said on fiction that something jump a generation, so there is also that.

It was the Empress, the Emperor's mother, she controlled him.
