Cue the old Ghostbusters line but with: "There is no Mutsumi, only Mortis..."

The fact the Mutsumi has gone inside to hide and allow Mortis to take center stage is frightening. She is now, in a way, officially Sakiko's puppet with the job of keeping the band together.

This is no longer a music anime. This has gone the horror route and I freakin' love it!

What I love about Nyamu, and i think you were getting to it in the rant - but she's authentically herself. You know exactly what she wants, and she's willing to tell you to your face, because she doesn't play games. She's also the representative of the 'working class', which comes out here - she stands up for all of the staff working the venue, and what it means for real people who aren't wealthy and what they have to spend to see a band or show like them. Part of the thing that really upset her I think, was that Mortis 'threw' to her the topic on the show, because Fukuoka is her home town. She didn't get to talk about that at all before she snatched the convo right back. (they also have her using what I assume is supposed to represent Hakata dialect slang when she's around the band and talking to her family) But this also shows why she is so upset - she looks to Saki as the leader and founder, to make a decision that is best for the band. And when Saki isn't willing to address the practical need to expel Mitsumi, and she thinks it's all because Saiki doesn't want to upset her 'other' rich and famous friend. This is where Saiki hiding her true situation comes back to bite her, because Nyamu doesn't know, and this confirms her initial fears that Saki wasn't really willing to be serious and work to make a successful band - and Nyamu doesn't have 'time to play house with a rich girl.' The multiple character levels this show has is really impressive when you peel back the onion. I've also seen a fair number of people express that they are not happy with the subs they did for the show, because you really miss some of the nuances of everything going on. I think there are some fan subs out there I will look into one day to compare.

With regards to the start of the episode and Sakiko being unhappy with seemingly not being in control- I think it also has an element of why Sakiko formed the band in terms of being an outlet for how she feels now - if you remember Tomori said that the songs Sakiko wrote for Crychic were really different, and it felt like a different person writing for Ave Mujica - she's writing from a dark place and it's an outlet. The rest of the band, led by Nyamu and Mortis at this point wanting to do smiling photos etc not really being in keeping with the concept of the band.

The way I've always personally interpreted Saki's control of Ave Mujica is that this is the last thing in her life that she has power over.

You can feel that Mortis's actions and words are quite childish, and she was selling everyone out like you said. She doesn't have experience with people and she doesn't know how to do a lot of the things that mutsumi would (like playing guitar), that's why she's repeating the stuff others said or just throwing tantrums when things aren't working out the way she wants. And yeah, her only purpose is to keep the band together because mutsumi wants it

Speaking of Layer, and Raise a Suilen, they are in an earlier Bang Dream anime season. I think latter part of S2 and most of S3. The story is lighter there, but that doesn't mean there's no drama
