I looked up if there is a plush of Dela...AND THERE IS!

I am going to look and see if I can get a used one somewhere. Dela is my favorite little sassy bird!

Also...I love this episode because I love "love." I know a lot of people think Valentine's Day is a consumerist holiday which yeah, it pretty much is, but it's also just a fun day to buy anything in the color scheme of pinks, reds, and whites! The colors are gorgeous, and the candy is yummy, and the date nights are fun!

I LOVE "LOVE!"

This really was an adorable episode. Cute in every way! Yes the cup and the string actually works. We did it as kids. The string needs to be taut and attached to the bottom of the cup in the middle. The bottom of the cup (or tin can) acts like a drum and starts vibrating when you talk loud into it and the string carries the vibrations through to the other cup (can). It's basic sound transmission (very primitive).

I am very glad to see that you TOTALLY caught on to the subtext about Midori's feelings towards Tamako. I can only half confirm because these feelings, and the arc she goes through with regards to these feelings, are never made *explicitly* clear throughout the whole show. Whether its *love*, or something a bit less than love but more than friendship, is unclear as well. It is subtext all the way. BUT, IMO, its pretty obvious subtext. If you rewatch the episode again with this in mind, and pay attention to her body languange and her expressions around Tamako, its soooooo clear. Her tenseness, the way she tenses her fingers especially, when asking Tamako if shes giving anyone chocolates, her flinching when Tamako tried to touch her hair, all of her stares to Tamako during filming. These little body expressions are what Director Yamada does best at (and no one else really does at the same level), and this love story told exclusively through these expressions is what makes Midori my favorite character in the show. I think its very lovely, and I'm glad you picked up on it. "Everybody loves somebody" said by midori's grandpa is the very sweet motif or phrase that is most associated with Tamako Market. Emphasized at the end when Kanna assures Midori that "everybody is *free* to love somebody". I wonder if she knows who Midori likes...
