To prevent spoilers, I will try to be vague...but what do you mean she was always the predominant one?! I did NOT see that coming.

I am happy that Umiri wants the band back together, but I am not sure if jealousy should be here drive here. Also...something about how she spoke to Mortis really seems...only sefl-fulfilling. What's her angle here?

Not fully recovered, still have some sniffles but hella better from last week. Thanks!!! :3 Random thing, this past weekend was the Manila leg of Bushiroad Expo 2026. I got to see Raana's Voice Actor. Spent more or less 100USD to get 3 raffle tickets for the autograph session, but didnt win any. Sad. My luck is atrocious. Like the previous year, bro and me lined up to raffle for autograph session with Mutsumi and Nyamu's VAs and bro won. So he chose to get Mutsumi's signature coz she's cute, while my Nyamu fangirl heart weeps in envy lol (Also Akanen is just so pretty and funny >_<) Anywho, I think Mortis and Mutsumi-chan are the predominant personalities for "Wakaba Mutsumi". But there may have been a lot more alters before them. Sakiko definitely does not know Mutsumi as well as she thought. I suspect Mortis fronts more, coz iirc Sakiko said when they argued in the rain, that Mutsumi used to talk more, smile more, but CRYCHIC Mutsumi (guitar player personality) is more withdrawn. Minami Mori is one of those garbage anime parents... Nothing much more to say, but I did like that part where Umiri promises to teach Mortis how to play guitar. It felt like she was like the fox promising Pinocchio that he'd be a real boy soon.

2026-09-19 12:00 Ahhh the ep I had to keep pretending I didn't know about while commenting before. LOL So the 'pathology' I guess would be the word, and how both Mortis and Mom are describing it is - there wasn't any dominant personality. Mitsumi's condition is such that, starting when she was very young (2 or 3) she already had 'dozens' of 'alters' within her psyche, and they didn't each self-identify - they just stepped in when her brain needed them to. None of them was 'dominant' in that sense. And Mom agrees, saying 'she can be anyone moment to moment, with just a change of position or expression'. But Mortis explains, it changed when she found guitar, something that was so important to the part of her that loved music that she 'got stuck' . Her saying 'she didn't exist' was her way of going 'none of the other alters could step in and do their roles', because guitar 'Mitsumi-chan' was blocking them. And that consciousness couldn't handle the other stressors of being in a band, so Mortis was needed to help guitar Mitsumi, and she was able to get room. But now both consciousness wants more control, and really a way to exist. Mitsumi wants Crychic back, and Mortis wants/needs AM. The thing I took from this ep, and why I can't bring myself to be angry at Saki - everyone that keeps blaming themselves for this, and Mortis saying it outright that Saki caused this, and Umiri saying later 'we did that to Wakaba-san' - that's all a crock. A girl who was basically special needs since she was 2 or 3, whose Mom can only even acknowledge the issue in terms of how it could threaten *her* career. Has fame, and money, and there's no treatment, no therapy. Just a room full of expensive plushies and toys. Hard to also miss that Dad isn't around - not unreasonable to think he either couldn't handle his daughter's issue or couldn't deal with Mom not giving a shit. So yeah, nothing some head-strong teen girls could do was 'the cause' of this. It goes so much deeper. Although, shout out to my favorite scene and relationship in the show - the best Frenemies ever Nyamu and Umiri. So loved their scene together. And shout-out to Akane Yonezawa, voice actor (and amazing drummer) for Nyamu - in her first ever VA. She does a great job with that whole scene.

It was even mentioned in the ep after disbandment by one of the agency ladies that they heard Mitsumi had locked herself in her room for a month - remember Soyo got worried because she missed so much school. Apparently this wasn't a giant alarm signal to mom? Hard to also miss that Dad isn't around in the current day - not unreasonable to think he either couldn't handle his daughter's issue as he wanted to deny she was 'different' from the beginning, or couldn't deal with Mom not giving a shit. So yeah, add all this background up and imo nothing some head-strong teen girls could do was 'the cause' of this. It goes so much deeper. And Saki is willing to miss school and identify that Mitsumi needs some constant care right now - and Mom just goes happily along to her acting gigs, complaining about the 'monster', her daughter that she can't stand to be around? Yikes. Although, shout out to my favorite scene and relationship in the show - the best Frenemies ever Nyamu and Umiri. So loved their scene together. 2026-09-19 12:00 Oh fun fact - in the real place, in Toshima, where the schools everyone is going to is, outside the Ikebukuro train station exit that you see when Saki and Mitsumi go to karaoke, there was a new manhole cover put down there, with a engraved Tomori head portrait on it, along with the MyGo!!!!! name and logo. Just this summer. So cool!

The scene with Umiri and Mortis is made even better by the narration dismissing the 'I'll make you real' comment straight after

Nymphalis

This episode is mostly a MutsuMortis focused one but it given some much needed Umiri focus as well. We'll introduced to her mother straight after the scene with Minami Mori. We can see Umiri volunteerily distances herself from her despite her seeming perfectly nice. The rest of the episode then implies Umiri seemingly has trouble regulating herself and knows it so she tries to control her indulgences. She doesn't trust herself to eat the right amount so she drinks Calorie mate, she doesn't trust herself to get to invested in a relationship so she holds people and everything at arms length. And when she does indulge like she does with shopping she spends to much. It's not a character trait I see much but makes her one of my favourite characters

Definitely couldn’t come close to putting it as well as this 🤩🙏

Amazing episode - I like you going through the comments - everyone doing a great job of no spoilers. Nothing further from me as Findle already said it best

Thank you! I should also mention, some of this I got from one interview I saw with the director/writer, who also said they did research into the modern thinking about DID when putting this together. Seems lots of things have changed over time when it comes to how this works. Kudos to them for putting the effort to get this as accurate as possible!

Wow great points I never considered. Thanks for posting about her!

JintheCasualChubster

Indeed. Uika's narration seems to negate that very comment at the end.
