I feel like all these episodes start off rough. There's no real happiness. There's no sadness. Just...existence. The way this show showcases this is so well done.

Not gonna lie, my heart fell out of my chest for part of this. If you haven't watched it, I won't spoil it, but...I am glad that things end up being okay.

The freakout energy when the plane disintegrates shortly into it's maiden flight is totally intentional, I had almost exactly the same sinking feeling the first time I watched it. On rewatch you can see the shape of the parachute under Ishii's overcoat when she's getting ready to fly, but it's not obvious until you begin to look for it. Plus they're sure to introduce the (effectively Chekov's) telescope in an earlier sequence so they are then capable of witnessing her survival, if they'd only had Chi's smaller handheld scope it's far less likely they would've spotted her parachute. Her prototype flew safely because it was on a much smaller scale, there would've been far more strain & tension in flight on the full sized fuselage, plus the mechanical tolerances & build quality required to function safely would be far less forgiving than that of a car or half track motorbike. We have no idea how long those parts had been sat there probably corroding or rusting. The broken component on their Kettenkrad that needed replacing looked like a flywheel/clutch plate in the transmission, without it they would have no way of transferring the power generated by the engine to the tracks, so they were literally 'dead in the water' at the start of the episode in what was a pretty unfriendly environment to find themselves stuck. I think we're probably in a relatively far future/alt universe timeline at least 20-30yrs minimum into a post-apocalyptic type scenario, given the main characters seem to have no real memories of a time where civilization was still functional. The stratified layout of the city reminds me of the dystopian MegaCity constructions in the Judge Dredd comics/films, with a little of the energy of the manga/anime/live action adaptation of Battle Angel Alita as well. But could also be meant in part as an allegory for 'old world' European cities like London, Rome and Paris where there has been development over thousands of years and you can literally find older versions of those cities buried beneath the street. Famous examples would be things like the decommissioned London Tube stations or the Paris Catacombs.

2026-09-23 09:00 Also give you had to change sites, I thought it might be helpful to point out there is a semi-legit way of watching Girls' Last Tour on YT. The channel Muse Asia, based out of Taiwan, has the streaming license for the series for several territories where there aren't dedicated anime streaming platforms like Crunchyroll. So if you use a VPN and set it to Thailand, Singapore or Malaysia you can watch an English hard subbed version of the anime there (along with many others).
