I really feel for Iris in this episode because not only does it seem like she wants to pave a path of her own for herself, but she confessed her feelings for the one she thought loved her back and he turned her down.

Rejection is hard and no one wants to talk about the truth in that aspect. Who wants to say that the person they loved rejected them?

Violet was unfortunately confused by Iris saying she didn't want to tell her mother how she felt. Poor violet is trying to understand why we like to hide our feelings, but she needs them explained so she can understand.

I liked this episode!

Violet in her absolute lack of understanding of emotions, forces others to clearly state how they feel, causing them to confront their problems once and for all. Violet the psychotherapist!...HE HE. Fun fact: Iris voice actress is Haruka Tomatsu, who voices Mayu in season 3 of Sound Euphonium.

As you quickly figured out, Iris is basically a bit of a country bumpkin in terms of her background, she's eager to make something of herself and puts on a bit of a front, acting and dressing in a way that she thinks help her look more sophisticated and cultured. She's also an anime original character and doesn't feature in the light novels (not that I've had a chance to read them yet, there's decent fan translations online but they've never had an official English release, probably never will either). Even before her fall on the stairs at the start of the episode, we'd seen foreshadowing of Iris looking unsteady in her heels more than once. Whilst her doll outfit still has elements more reflective of her hometown, it's also implied that she admires Cattleya and is trying to copy elements of her style to give her fashion a more urban/city flavour. Much like the world wars in our own world, the extended war that preceded the anime led to women’s social advancement with much of the male workforce eventually being mobilised/conscripted into the armed forces. Iris very much believes in advancement through education & the more modern concept of the working woman that resulted, whereas her mother's views are more traditional, hence the well meant but in reality insensitive attempt to try to turn her birthday party into a matchmaking/suitor opportunity. Her hometown of Kazaly, being a rural agricultural mountain village, meant that she grew up in a relatively small community where everyone knows everyone. So following Emonn's rejection of her confession it makes sense that she wanted to move away and was reluctant to visit home, as it'd be difficult to avoid him. I like the overall aesthetic of Kazaly, being a blend of mostly South East Asian (Thailand & Malaysia) farmland with the rice paddies, water buffalo pulling the cart, aspects of the style of dress & the food at the party; but with some turn of the 20th century German/colonial elements to still tie it to Leiden.

Hey Nitt! Yes, next week is the first Ova, "The Day You Understand “I Love You” (its like 35-40 minutes) as we chatted about. Violet is a show where tissues should be close at hand. But that is something everyone keeps telling you. And the soundtrack to Violet. Evan call just knows how to put emotion into music. And the artwork and attention to detail in the series always amazes me. See you next week !
