February 2025 update: On February 12th, allegations were made public of Kadarius Toney physically abusing a woman, the details of which are very serious and upsetting. Throughout this two-part video series, I celebrated Toney, his football career, and his life story, and in light of these allegations I can no longer continue to do so.

After originally publishing these videos here on our Patreon in August and September, we published them on YouTube in December. Upon learning of the allegations, we took them down from our YouTube channel. Since our paying Patreon members did pay for this content, we believe they’re still entitled to see it, so we’re leaving these videos up here with a disclaimer. Although I stand by my broader message that athletes shouldn’t be commoditized and dehumanized, Toney’s alleged actions make it impossible for me to champion him as a sympathetic figure.

Oh what a GLORIOUS day

Ben Jenkel

Just in time for the bus ride to the airport

Colin Burdett

I'm so mad he just got released after I picked him up in a dynasty league

Matt Stott

46 minutes and 41 seconds of happiness

Michael Epp

Happy labor day everyone

GandalfTheRad

Love the implication that Tony will play for a hundred years, or "well into the 22nd century"

Casey K

I got my tissues ready 🥲

Louis Marchese

Some might even call it a Kadarius day?

Dan Conley

Why would I ever want Toney released? I loved him on the Chiefs! (and here's where I'll say that while I am a certified Hater of the Chiefs, complaining about the refs was not a good look. The Bills got screwed by them plenty. Hell, the Giants got screwed against the Bills by an uncalled DPI. But while "hey the refs seem really bad this year" is a conversation worth having, complaining that you got penalized for breaking the rules is bush league.)

smoov22

Making me watch the birds fail to tackle Toney on the punt return in the Super Bowl is an incredibly steep admission requirement to his fan club

Connor

Pretty good

Ty Hawke

when module eight began: it’s time to play the game. it’s time to play the GAAAAAAAAAAAAAME

Gianni

i feel about darwin nuñez the way jon feels about toney

EddieOrNot

Too many advanced stats nerds in football these days failing to account for the ‘That’s my guy’ metric

liz

module 8 was a horror film; this was exceptional jon. i am a kadarius toney fan. ←←← never mind. i am not one

Frink Zippi

"hilarious kadarius" has now stuck with me forever

KeegoTheWise

sure, he may have been released - but he’ll always be a two-time super bowl champion. hilarious kadarius, i wish you nothing but the best in all your future endeavors

Steve S.

As a newly minted Kadarius Toney fan let me go check the news! :I

Fox Doucette

This is made doubly funny by the fact that over the weekend I saw some footage of UrinatingTree and FivePointsVids doing a live reaction to the '21 draft, and Five Points, a Giants fan, said "watch them do something like draft Kadarius Toney" and then, when the pick was made, he did the classic "throw the chair out of the way and pace around the room" reaction.

duncathan -

I hope I see Toney out there again soon too, Jon. I hope so too.

Rob Myers

Lifelong Chiefs fan and I swear to you I was rooting for him every single week in the 2023 season. I was at the home opener at Arrowhead against Detroit. I had also seen what he could do in big moments like that SB punt return. I knew he had it in him to be magic. Those drops hurt me too but I never lost the faith. I'm sad he'll no longer be a Chief. My fellow Chiefs fans that hate the guy deserve a measure of scorn. Toney didn't deserve that.

Tony Heron

Fantastic comparison. If only american football had the swift redemptive qualities of football!

Macon

That quirky l'il sax tune during the montage of the first half of the '23 season was so fire

Tony Heron

I must admit, I may have failed module eight. Shame by upon my head. But I am going to re-apply to retake the test next semester. I really hope KT gets another chance to show us his undeniable talent. I will say that just becoming enamored with an athlete cause they are cool people or they do maybe even just one or two magical feats is an essential part of being a fan of sports. You may not believe in love in first sight in the realm of romance but you have to be a certain kind of cold, boring person to not do it with an athlete. I mean, I would have took a bullet for lions running back Joique Bell after just his first touchdown celebration. And, as Jon so beautifully tells us, we gotta stick with your guys.

jo

Sports is wasted on Sports Fans. i hope plenty of ppl get to see this and internalize the message. hoping for a healthy and fine 2024 for KT!

Ben Rall

Sadly, I cannot say that I am a member of the Kadarius Toney Fan Club. However, I wish him the best in whatever future football holds for him.

skrrt vonnegut

soundtrack around 20 minutes sounds like TNG when the enterprise and borg are having a standoff

willforthrill

The message of this resonates with me as a Joey Gallo fan

Mac Wake

As a chiefs fan who certainly has never been considered anywhere near a kadarius toney fan, I truly do hope he finds a role on a diff team and stays healthy. He has always deserved to be treated like a human trying his best and its always rubbed me the wrong way when folks fall short of that very low bar.

Isaac Howard

how do i get my middle initial out of my name, lol

Adam Foote

Bills fan. I was so relieved that the officials called that offensive offsides last season. I didn't like the reaction of the Chiefs but I get it, too. I hate that the game was decided that way. On the other hand, Buffalo won and I will be grateful to Toney for that absurd call. As football's lightning rod for weirdness of course it would be him

Daniel Brandes

Goddamn that ending was beautiful. I feel so honoured to have my name listed in the credits as a supporter of this.

Alys Rudolph

I have to confess, I did not join the Kadarius Toney fan club. I am one of the unworthy ones. But I wish him well, wherever he ends up. If he does have more football ahead of him, hopefully he decides to stop torching the Eagles.

xyntoxy

yeah I know my reference point is always sumo but it's one of the most "that's my guy" sports ever. one of my favorite wrestlers (ura) has a lot of 6-9 and 7-8 records in tournaments, one time I saw him win his first seven matches and lose the last eight, but goddamn sometimes he can pull off the coolest shit. just hits you with a move that hasn't been seen in the top division since the 1960s or bust out a backwards pivot throw that looks like it can't possibly work until it does. he's such a cool dude and I have the utmost respect for him even if he breaks my heart a lot!!! so basically I was nodding my head along the whole video, I Very Much Get It.

Adam

Through thus whole thing, I kept thinking "Man. I hope Kadarius can see this someday."

Sixfortyfive

As a Chiefs fan, I found room in my heart to love Daniel Sorensen. I can also find room to love Kadarius Toney.

Robert

What timing lol

Bobby Dubs

At the risk of being THAT GUY, the degree to which Toney's foot was in the neutral zone was more egregious than the other examples, and regardless of whether offensive-offsides-is-a-dumb-foul-and-shouldn't-be-called-ever-and-you-are-silly-for-defending-it, it would have been flagged in any other game at any other time. The fact it is rarely called also means its an easier penalty to avoid than others and you are likely to get away with it if you just scooch yer foot back a few inches. Cracking video as always Jon. As you can tell, I failed all the modules.

Kim Katya Harley

the foul being *more egregious* (several more inches) doesn’t necessarily discount the point rhat it’s dumb to call, and I don’t necessarily buy that it would always 100% be called - then again, I’m still on team Drew Pearson Pushed as a vikes fan, so i may not have room to talk

Kim Katya Harley

having watched the 2023 twins it hopes Three True Outcomes Gallo can bounce back. somehow

JustTaylor

For Those That Are Curious On May 2, 2024, the Chiefs declined the fifth-year option on Toney's contract, making him a free agent after the 2024 season.[https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/40069780/source-chiefs-decline-fifth-year-option-kadarius-toney] On August 27, 2024, Toney was released by the Chiefs.[https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/41015181/chiefs-waiving-wr-kadarius-toney-source-says] Nonetheless these 2 modules will have me be a Kadarius Toney fan, and I hope to see what he does beyond the NFL. I would be surprised to see him on another team this year

Andrew North

I feel the same way. I get more anger out of frustration when watching Chiefs games because I know the players are way better than the bad outcomes that result from mistakes. Feels like Toney ended up with a horrifically bad draw in 2023.

Martin C

I'm not a Chiefs or a Bills fan (I am, however, now a Kadarius Toney Fan), but the offensive offside call at that moment really feels refshow-y. Mahomes about to lead his team to another clutch victory? Hmmm how do we, the refs, make this game about us? I know!

dan holton

i mean that’s just total bs. they threw the flag long before pat threw it. it’s very clearly a penalty

Banana_J_Here

In a way, football gave Toney another ring because it knew what it had done to him, it had failed him.

Kiaayo

I ain't gonna quit being a fan just because of 3-4 bad plays. I ain't a coward.

Clipzncatz

I have always loved Toney as a chiefs fan. He is the closest thing that has come to Dante hall my all time favorite player. I hope some team picks him up and he does great.

Maxwell Fairbairn

No matter what happens in the future, even if he’s a complete failure and doesn’t work out for the Panthers I will always stick with Bryce Young because that’s one of my guys. I don’t even particularly care about the team itself, I just want him to be successful. He and Joey B are my two favorite collegiate athletes I’ve ever watched. They were both electric and I loved watching their completely unique, but dominating playstyles.

Grezzzo

You know it’s a great day when a Pretty Good episode drops 😮‍💨

Ben P

I feel like Kadarius Toney is a really good case study for the power of mainstream sports to dehumanize athletes. Especially in the modern era, sports teams more than anything are brands/corporations, who need their athletes not just to perform but to conform, to align with the values and practices of the organization. If you act out but perform well, the organization will conform to you and pretend like they've been that way all along.

Ben P

If an athlete acts out but performs poorly (Toney), they'll kick them to the curb

MJA

I am eternally grateful for Jon Bois content. Visually so compelling and with soothing and hypnotic narration delivery. Jon, thank you.

Sixfortyfive

I think my favorite bit in this one is the brief cameo of prior Dorktown villain Billy Martin.

Eddie

Hi Jon, first time long time. Kadarius Toney visited the Seahawks yesterday and I was fine with the possibility but not all that moved. Then I realized it'd been a couple of months since I last checked out the SB patreon content. I now desperately need the Seahawks to add KT even if it's just to be a return specialist. Thank you for radicalizing me. P.S. Would love to hear your thoughts on Geno Smith. Seems like he could be an exceptional subject for one of these types of videos, but even just a yay/nay would be cool. He had the Jets starting job and then was punched in the face, tore his ACL the following season and then would've started over Eli in NY but ownership nixed it after 1 start.

Evan

Seahawks please sign Yung Joka… please

Sebastien Rempel

I love you Jon, so don’t take it personally when I say that this video combined with KaDarius being cut made me want to live in a world where every single Chiefs drive would end in a turnover on downs at the opponent’s 1 yard line

Free4554

Can someone update Jon's wikipedia page to label him as a KaDarius Toney fan

Matthew

For science, I'm writing this before watching Part 2. I was born and raised in Kansas City, and as of the time of this comment I am solidly a Kadarius Toney fan. I hope I stay one. Of course I caught his inexplicable inability to catch passes happen in real time, and my feelings on it were perfectly summarized by a moment on the sidelines when the cameras caught Mahomes despairing, "I just don't get it!" But he had been such a valuable contributor, one of the most exciting players to watch since Dante Hall, and I hoped he would somehow come out of it ok. I was not a fan of his at the end of last season, but I was at least ambivalent. After watching Part 1, I am definitely now a fan. Now to see what happens when I complete the course...

Matthew

Hell yeah. I'm a Kadarius Toney fan. Thank you, Jon.

Jonathan Bottorff

It's equally as dumb to call as neutral zone infractions, which are the basically the same thing, but for some reason y'all take those seriously, but not this

Blizzard Wuffy

He's like the Larry David of football

Jacob Phillip

I’m writing this as soon as I just finished watching, and KT JUST GOT SIGNED LFG

Evan B.

GET IN HERE GUYS, KT IS A CLEVELAND BROWN

Ben G.

'You gotta stick with your guys' should be the foremost tenet of sports fans. There's no better feeling than being a fan, rooting for a player, and then seeing that player overcome some kind of hardship and be successful. Happy to be a new Kadarius Toney fan!

Alex Tawney

Love the video, Jon. I don't have much to say that a lot of the other Chiefs fans in the comments haven't said, but I always appreciate the empathy that's inherent in all your work. Sports can be great for a lot of reasons other than your team winning, and KT is honestly a great example of that.

Terrence Kuhns

I admit that I was not strong enough... I thought I could do it until I, an Eagles fan, was reminded of THAT GODDAMN SUPER BOWL PUNT RETURN WRAP HIM UP YOU GREEN FUCKS GAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH

DiabeticGod

After successfully completing all the included modules in this course, I can indeed confirm that I am a Kadarius Toney fan, thank you kindly for the insight upon this topic Jon, it took a lot of effort, but I’ve seen the light.

Eli

What an amazing video

Chloe

its all about turning people into commodities aint it. if you cant be part of the spectacle you get kicked to the curb. because only a successful spectacle can make the money the people at the top need. i hope toney lives a good long life full of personal rap and weirdass football. he's earned it

Star Fyre

I dont want to crash the party, but after watching this video, it just seems to me that kadarius toney simply doesn't have the hands to be an nfl receiver. Good video regardless

Ash Soley

I mean, yeah? That’s true for every institution of life essentially. I hope KT can make it work on the Browns since he’s a fun player to watch (and I say that even as a Giants fan) but Kansas City basically has no reason to keep him since he’s a liability on and off the field. Even if he’s “our guy” we can’t expect teams to pick him up because of that.

Josh Schoonwater

Could be a good punt/kick returner with some snaps at RB kinda like Cordarrelle Patterson tho.

Nick Wright

Agreed. Been frustrating as a Celtics fan to see some fans abandoning Tatum for streaky shooting. You stick with your guys.

TU84

In all kinds of weather, we all stick together 🐊 count me in as a permanent member of the KT fanclub

Terakahn

I'm still a fan. A sad one. A new one. But a fan nonetheless. I've never been one to root for teams though, I've always rooted for players. Even when they don't give me a rason to.

Daniel Wilson

Can Carolina sign him off of Cleveland’s practice squad?

M. Hedrick

As a card carrying member of the KT Fan Club, I will hold onto the belief that someday Toney will claw himself from the Practice Squad and partner with the game to make something new. Redefine that vague Athlete label into a Special Teams spot for other Swiss Army Men who are only hurt by the NFL’s boxes.

Daniel Bouchard

Can the Ottawa RedBlacks make a play for him to save their season as the weapon they need to win their second Grey Cup?

Nic Pruitt

looks like today is toney's 2024 season debut, let's see if he can redeem himself

CS

"Kadarius Toney is a player who usually wins the Super Bowl" is one of the best sentences to give your tryhard friend a conniption.

MaRuWaPo Films

No he plays for the browns now oh god no

Brady Portz

at 28:00, who’s the only WR below him in the mid 2010’s?

Andrew King

i have some bad news for ya...

Jamie B.S.

perhaps the worst fate that can befall a nfl player

Llewellyn Stevens

Having just watched this, and then looked up what happened with him, and seeing his one game being what it was - i felt prepared for that

Dasamont

As both a ref and an athlete myself (although in another sport), I do sorta agree with Kadarius. It sucks when refs decide games, and in a situation like the offside, where the Chiefs had already done that mistake 2 times earlier without being called on it, it's just bad reffing to call them on it the third time, especially when it was a game-winning touchdown, unless the refs warned the teams about it after the first infractions. It almost makes you wonder if the refs were betting on the game, and wanted a certain result, but we shouldn't get into that.

Michael Witkoske

I consider myself a fan of Hilarious Kadarius still even though he is with the browns now.

DiabeticGod

ooouu i wouldnt, go check the news and frown unhappily while you read

DFW3K

Stumbling onto this now having recently become a patron is a strange feeling.
