Good day! I am Seth and this is an episode of Big Deal that Ryan and I made for you to watch now, without ads, unlike those other jabronis*. It's about the time Ken Griffey Jr. very suddenly, very unexpectedly, and with no apparent recourse told the Seattle Mariners that he wanted to be traded. They were in a pickle, but I'd say they got out of it surprisingly intact, if not entirely on purpose.

Also, crazy little Jim Edmonds hypothetical wrinkle in here.

Enjoy! I love you! I seriously do!

*(I accidentally uploaded the sponsored version to Patreon before Ryan caught that and set me on the right path. Woulda been a good bit.)

It’s kinda crazy how the M’s seemed to get better following the Randy Johnson trade, the Griffey trade, and then letting A-Rod go as a Free Agent. Really failing upwards!

I grew up in Boston. Went to college in Reno (go Wolf Pack!) And I totally relate to something Jon said about Seattle now that I live and work here. It really does feel like American Siberia. This city may as well be Vladivostok for how far away it is from absolutely everything...especially home. I totally understand the "I need to get out of here" instinct for people who live here but aren't from here. My lease is up next April and I'm already polishing my resume and reaching out to potential employers. The Mariners are a cursed franchise by pure dint of geography.
