It’s easy to simply say Jalen Hurts stinks. Not like a smelly person or anything, but bad at football. Which is a bit of a lazy read. In recent years, he hasn’t exactly fit the mold of a traditional QB and could maybe fairly be called a tush-push merchant, but those labels massively overshadow one of the league's more unique journeys.

In college at Alabama, Hurts was on an early path to becoming one of the best quarterbacks in a storied program… and then got replaced in the 2018 National Championship. Oddly, it turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to him. While it initially put him in a dark place where he considered quitting football altogether, he learned to be patient and take advantage of the opportunities when they came. It led to a Heisman finalist recognition at the University of Oklahoma.

When he entered the league with the Philadelphia Eagles, people still doubted him. Thought to be stuck as a backup who would hardly ever see the field. He stayed cool and waited for his shot. When he got it, he thrived. Back-to-back Super Bowl appearances and won it all on the second go-around, earning Super Bowl MVP. So yeah, when you factor in the journey, it's a bit uninspired to simply call the dude trash. He’s a champion after all. So let’s look at the phases of Jalen Hurts that made him who he is.

Is the audio crunchy for anyone else?

THAT'S MY QB1! Watching this immediately. I got to shout "MVP! MVP!" at him when he rode by us during the Super Bowl parade. I love this man's story and it's such a classic Philadelphia underdog tale.

Eagles fan here, and I've never had an issue with Hurts. He wins, he does it with style, and he's always willing to play fun football, whether it's tush-pushing or chucking bombs like he's channelling Vick. But that SB MVP award should have gone to someone on the defense. He played a real good game in SB LIX, but the defense put on a performance for the ages.

I’m an Eagles fan since 1976. Is Hurts as exciting as Michael Vick? Nope. As multi-talented as Randall Cunningham? Nope. As frustrating as Donovan McNabb? Nope. But, overall he is the best QB i’ve seen for this team in 50 years. According to the other players, he’s also a fantastic leader. Here’s what gets me: There’s a whole group of fans/members of the chattering class that want to evaluate players on the number of chips they have. Hurts has one, was MVP in it, and arguably outplayed Mahomes in both SB’s. Those folks above, who want to reduce everything to big games, suddenly want to deny Hurts his flowers because he was “carried by a great team.” It just feels like people have made up their mind about who he is and nothing will change it. I do think there is still a stereotype around how a black football player should act, and that doesn’t include someone who answers questions like a CEO at a shareholder meeting. On the other hand - No One Likes Us, We Don’t Care! (Look it up on YT.)

Man even disregarding the Tush Push stuff the dude has a career 4.6 y/a as a rusher and he's not a turnover magnet. Anyone who isn't a KC, Buffalo, or Baltimore fan would be glad to have him as their QB

Unfortunately, an average quarterback performance will take MVP over a very good defense unless one guy just massively stands out on that defense. That's just how the sport is, if you're not Warren Sapp or Troy Polamalu out there changing the game by yourself, the credit will go to the offense.

Why am I having to watch an ad for subscribing to the patreon when I already did?
