It's time for another Secret Base round up of the special things we've gotten up to/will be getting up to. These are highlights, not a full menu, so follow along to know what to look out for or to check out something you might've missed. BTW this is Will. In personal news, I went to a concert last night and now am sleepy and sore. On to the fun stuff!
What to look out for
Folks, it's coming back. We've got a mini-run of Collapse in the works, aiming for more in store from there, and that series has only been possible because of our beautiful Patrons. For all of our Top Secret Agents and Content Enjoyers, Seth is kicking things off this coming Monday right here on Patreon. Then, Clara and Joe will be working on episodes over the coming weeks. All of those will hit YouTube by the end of the year, and again - thanks for giving us the excuse to make more of those.
Similarly, Jon's History of Charging the Mound carries on into October. It's part two of his love letter to Andrés Galarraga, but still plenty of time to get caught up on the first installment if you haven't already. It is really something special, but considering I have a bit of bias, let me borrow from Dr. Katz. I can't confirm if they're really a doctor, but they've been part of this community since the very start, and as for the first episode, Katz said, "This is like finally seeing the final boss in an anime after they’ve been teased for 3 seasons." Thank you, doctor. We feel seen.
This is the Andrés Galarraga button.
Also, something that's a first for our Patrons, Seth is returning to his roots and doing a little "blogging." It's more than a blog. It's a beautiful piece that again, we wouldn't have a place deserving of it without all of you helping create this little spot for us to show ourselves. So, no spoilers, but it's special and vintage Seth.
Last thing I'll mention, aside from the weekly new drops on Patreon and the at least weekly drops over on YouTube, is that we're doing one of those big ol YouTube premieres for the Ryan vs. Ventura project. If you haven't seen it yet, or if you have and want to enjoy it again with us, we'll set that up to hit YouTube on October 6th. Keep an eye out for that event to get created on YouTube, we'll post about it more too once there's a link handy.
In case you missed it
Ok this one is a plug and an apology. We fired up a new format called "This Week in Sports" and while I am proud of the end result/had a lot of fun making it/want to make a lot more of it, I found a version of myself that I did not know exist and allowed him to handle the intro. It's maybe the least Secret Base thing I've ever done. It felt... wrong. But, I've gone unnecessary lengths for goofs before (see photo below) and will do anything to try and make Ryan and Seth laugh. So, there's that. Anyway - check it out. It's a new twist to looking back at sports history.
Speaking of Seth and laughing, he just published this Prism episode about Rick Fox on YouTube (and ad-free on Patreon). Coming out of that research process, Seth got a bit fixated on Eddie, and thanks to Alex pointing out something very unique about that movie, we stumbled into a bizarre story that you can watch here. It's a lot of us being confused about how the NBA does brand licensing, or why it allowed certain players and teams be involved in this movie, and a bit of us remembering a time and place when Whoopi Goldberg owned the silver screen.
Similarly, Clara also pulled a side story out of a piece she's working on that'll come out closer to NBA season. No spoilers other than the spoilers contained in this video, but on the script's cutting room floor she found a somewhat forgotten Shaq reality show worth revisiting. It's a reminder that TV and media has always been gross, it just changes how it's gross as time goes on. Oh, and that one is available to everyone reading this - not just our paid members!
Of course, we have a lot more going on so I'll here's handy links to some full collections if you have time to waste and want to dive in.
The History of Charging the Mound
Ok I think I've taken up enough of your day. Love you bye!
