Good Morning
Today, I believe, is going to be great! It’s a full team effort to do a little mini-campaign modeling job! Everyone is going, and we all are excited.
Josh and Geoni will be doing their own side-project and pitching in as needed. They are going to work up a little travel log article for the park we’re going to use.
Jason is doing the photography and directing each shot. Sasha and Clay handled wardrobe and logistics. Clay’s going to fly the drone and take pictures, just for fun, too.
My job? Hair, makeup, and being in front of the camera. I’m calling myself the art director, too. That means I’m the one watching the little things—the color tones, the mood, how the light feels on skin. As the art director, I’ll be saying things like, “Let me get this rock out of the way” or “try some low angles, now.” I’ll be trying to set up the scene that the client asked for so that Jason can capture it.
Today, it’s about lotion. So, the focus will be on the long lines of the legs and arms. To keep the focus (both literally and symbolically) on those, I’m going to go with straight hair today.
And of course a fresh coat of my Generative Fill nail polish! I’ll keep my makeup simple, too. The ad is about skin-care, so that’s where the emphasis will be.
But if I don’t get going, we’ll miss the lighting we want! There’s a lot of miles to drive and a lot of locations and angles to test out. I’ll check in when I get a chance.
I’ll see you later.

Smooth And Comfortable
We are in great shape, regarding time. We’re on location west of Rudolph, Texas, gear unpacked and checked out. Now, we start test shots.
The goal is to shoot at golden hour—around sunset. Between now and then, we’ll hit dozens of locations and take test shots. Sasha is naming and recording each with notes on the best angles.
She picked this shirt dress for the shoot. It’s perfect. In black and white, it will make the skin stand out. In color, it doesn’t distract.
She packed four of them. Clay popped up a little tent (it’s behind Jason) that I can almost stand up in. He called it the wardrobe department. The shirt dresses are there.
The sun is hot. It’s 86°F (30°C) now and heading for around 96°F later. Once we start shooting for real, there will be a few shirt changes and a lot of “drying the dew” off the skin!
But, honestly, this is better than doing swimwear shoots on the Lake Michigan beaches in February! Yeah, that happens! You have to get the suits on the website before spring break!
Now, for a first time team effort, this has gone brilliantly! I have no doubt that it’s because, in a big way, we know each other so well and have so much respect for each other. We share the vision and know what we’re trying to do.
I’ll tell Naomi to keep her eyes open for more things like this! And if need be, of course, we could travel!
That’s about all for now. I can’t wait to see how it goes when we get to golden hour!
I’m planning to have some great shots to share, so see you then!
Golden Hour
We are packing up. We did it! The shoot was, if you ask me, very successful!
The slogan for the lotion is “Skin Protection For Even The Driest Conditions.” There’s a double meaning.
According to the ad, no matter how dry your skin is, it offers protection. And also, no matter how dry the weather is…
I brought us to the desert to capture that vibe. Jason nailed the photography. Everything about it worked as planned, more or less.
But you always overlook something. Sand on the skin was not part of the art concept. Sand under the skin was.
Sasha had to step up with a blender brush from the makeup kit and dust off my feet and ankles for every shot, once I got situated. That’s how a team works—a need emerges and someone steps up.
The only other oversight was the reality that I have sand in a lot of places I didn’t expect! That’s next on my to-do list—thankfully Clay brought that tent so I can change into fresh clothes! I’ll sweep the sand out when we get back home.
Thanks for sharing this day with me. I honestly believe the client will be very pleased. We gave them what they asked for. And I hope Naomi can find more little day-shoots for us in the future!
With that, I’ll call both the shoot and this diary entry a wrap!
May your plans come together as you hope, may those around you rise up to any challenges, and may your time and energy lead to great success!
Good night.
Be your best you!
